Nice video! This is a good example of a newcommer to the iPAD world. I've been using iPAD since more than 10 years now for live playing, and since 2018 for music production. The workflow is much different than on a PC, cannot compare, not better or worse, just different. Apps are different, some top software made the transition to the iPad, like Pianoteq, Cubasis 3, Thor, Fab Filter effects, Hammond B3X, Moog synths, and some native software are as good as desktop and many times surprisingly interesting, diferent and powerfull. It's difficult to start on a new platform, a lot of filtering is needed to choose the right software, and the right accessories ( yes, the ipad can handle everything you throw at it, at the same time, using a usb hub or multiport ). It doesn't "have potential", the potential is here allready.

I’ve had so much hardware gear the past 30 years
But iOS is just the fastest way to make music
And I just love to use endlesss with a lot of auv3 apps to jam with people from all over the world
With fantastic like minded people Amazing 👌

My biggest issue right now with using the iPad for music production is just that fact that it only has one port...yes...you can use a usb hub but I still hate having one port...sometimes its unreliable when seeing devices connected..especially when theres an OS update. Having a midi keyboard controller..audio interface and being able to charge it can be problematic at times. Sometimes it'll work fine and other times it might just disconnect from my audio interface. I actually started using the iPad in 2013 and have bought a TON of apps. At this point Ive gravitated back to using my MacBook Pro and having more thunderbolt ports is just so much more convenient and doesn't put all the wear on one port..I still have an iPad Air 2 that need to have the port repaired . I still use my iPad Pro for audio production sometimes but nowhere near as much as I used to. I just don't feel like Apple is that focused on musicians these day...at least not when it comes to the iPad . My main tool is my M3 Max MacBook Pro...I can have it plugged in and charging without sacrificing a port and have my audio interface, keyboard, and Ilok plugged in..I can use my external monitor with the HDMI port and it has the ssd card slot...all without having to use a dongle. I just wish Apple gave us more than one port for he iPad .

Fair point. I’m a mouse/keyboard person so that doesn’t affect my workflow much- although what I do think is missing is proper software for mangling audio. Even still, I think in the review I said that it’s like… alllmost there. You can definitely sound design anything you want from it. Putting stuff together. Maybe not so much yet

there are Auv3 that give you a lot of potential in term of sound design capability . To me if you own an ipad and you make music you must have : 1: Drambo 2: Synthmaster 2 , 3: Nambu and the other icegear synths ,4: Sugar byte Factory , 5: Buttersynth ...

I think DRambo is number one, everything after I’d look at effects personally

Hi, great video, thanks! Question - did you go for the 11"? or the 12.9"? I'm guessing 11" is more manageable? Thanks

Because the 11 is the exact same specs other than screen size I upgraded the storage instead^^

Like Drambo, AUM has the same importance for live music. Also Cubasis has so many more features than Logic pro for iPad, which didnt have any new update since its released. I would also give some attention to instrument apps built on physical modeling, like PianoTeq, SWAM ones, etc. I think ios17 will bring more improvements for workflow, lets see. As I am learning about beatmaking, I choose to get an iPad to learn the basics, and maybe in the future I plan to move to a Pc or mac. Good video! Thanks for your review!

could you name a few example which cubasis has and logic ip does not?

I think ipad has a lot of potential to be the core of a music production but its definitey not there yet. I think it is also not the best approach to apply pc workflows to an ipad, so i hope we will see some interesting concepts in the future of how modern music production can be even better on touchscreens than it is on mouse and keyboard :)

I don’t think it’s ready to “make” music yet but the sound design is definitely on par now

Have you seen the setup where you include the connectivity audio4c audio interface?
Dual usb allows music to flow between laptop & iPad... Crazy for using ipas as external effects processor, stream audio into samplr etc

regardign battery life - what greatly helps to have set lower display brightness, and even using apps with dark background kiterally helps tro drain less battery :-) the difference is surprisingly big

i was told by my music teacher about the ability of the ipad. I will always be a pc user though, so some export functions wont be as easy

You can still get something like Dropbox or a shared google drive.

I too recently picked up an M2 iPad Pro with music production in mind. My current vision for usage is to use it as a customized MPE MIDI control interface, remote control of my PA, and for controlling Ableton. I was inspired by GeoShred on iPad to make the iPad a musical instrument. Any recommendations out there for software to create custom MIDI interfaces on iPad OS?

Not to mention how cheap Fabfilter suite is way cheap compare to the desktop/laptop versions.
