    As a native Canadian, I love that you were there to witness our culture. The first dancer in yellow is a Fancy Dancer, they are incredible, move super fast, i don't know how they can dance so fast without passing out. The next two dancers were Chicken Dancers, not traditionally old dancing style but still fun to watch. The next one who is holding hands with the people is a Grass Dancer, traditionally these dancers begin ceremonial tradition for such things as pow-wow's, it starts with them.
    Lastly, when everyone is holding hands dancing in a circle, its called a round dance, traditionally it's a way of bringing people together from different tribes and cultures. When dancing, the people follow the path of the sun.
    I'm so happy you included this in your video, enjoy your time visiting our great country.
    Hiy-Hiy Kinanâskomitin (Thank You)

    The best poutine in Canada is in Quebec, hands down...!!! It originated there....

      But I’m sure it was still a lot better than McDonald’s.

    • @macgyveriii2818
      @macgyveriii2818 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True. Thankfully poutine isn't some fancy dish. It's simple enough to make tasty in a variety of ways. Just need the basics: tasty gravy, fresh curds, fries that can take the moisture.

    Canadians don't consider it as our Independence Day. It is the day that the modern country of Canada was born; thus it is more like our Birthday.

    • @sweetpixiesmile
      @sweetpixiesmile ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I think they are comparing it so that American viewers will have an understanding of what Canada Day is.

    • @lucforand8527
      @lucforand8527 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@sweetpixiesmile Agreed, the celebrations are similar in many ways; its just the reason that is different. It is also important to say that as in the US; celebrations are not the same across either country.

      @marcushamaker ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah funny eh? When I heard it I cringed a little. We are in fact not independent in a sense as we are a commonwealth state. But a good comparison for Americans I guess 😊

    • @lyledeevore1389
      @lyledeevore1389 ปีที่แล้ว

      Americans should know that when they are in a different country and the money has a queen or king on one side then that country is most likely not going to be celebrating INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

    Great episode. As a Canadian, thank you for the way you approached Canada Day. You were enthusiastic and eager to celebrate almost as one of us - temporary citizens.
    Glad you found a better poutine and got a better idea of what we rave about. The funny thing is that was probably a decent ish poutine… and many would argue about the poutine being better where they are. I’m not from there, but many feel like poutine in Quebec is the best… it definitely is partly because they have really great fresh curds there.
    Enjoy every minute!

When we camped by Two Jack Lake, a bear decided to visit our next tent neighbor's (unkempt) cooking area - his tentmate thought it was his friend returning from a Night Out and shouted at "him" - we were so tired we just looked out the flap and went back to sleep.., they received a "visit" from the rangers the next morning... You both seem so nice.
    I'm very happy you are enjoying our wonderful/beautiful country, and also got to experience our 156th Canada day. Orginally called Dominion day. Here is a simplified explanation.
    It celebrates the anniversary of Canadian Confederation which occurred on July 1, 1867, with the passing of the British North America Act, when the three separate colonies of the United Canadas, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick were united into a single dominion within the British Empire called Canada.
    That was the official start of Canada, but what was considered (officially) Canada back than then was alot smaller then today, and we weren't 100% independent yet.
    However Canada kept growing in size and independence over the years but wasn't officially independent from Britain until 1982 when Canada adopted its own constitution.
    That same year a bill was passed by the Canadian government renaming Dominion Day as Canada Day.

    I am glad you found Johnston Canyon. I did an ice walk there in January one year. It is a guided tour, crampons included and it was great. Also downtown Banff is amazing and so is nature in the entire area.

    Thanks! Really enjoying your views of Banff. Not used to "hiking" with side walks and handrails but it is very accessible and the waterfalls are gorgeous. Almost as pretty as Alaska ... very similar in many ways.
