The current families rise to power has been somewhat controversial as it was decidedly Continentally Germanic in origin , as opossed to the centuries old practice of descendants of the Angevin Frank's Taking the throne. They in turn had taken over the old Saxon kingdom. My families own genealogical records and archives show my descent from this House of Saxe und Gotha, The Princes of Hesse (The Elector Wilhelm 1), House of Romanovski Illyinski, William of Orange, and others back tooHenry 2 Duke of Brabant. My Great Grandmother who lived in Pennsylvania, had her furniture and linens and and clothing and other items emblazoned with, what she called, the Family Crest, which is the Electors Arms surrounded by The Order Of The Garter, with two lions rampant on either side and surmounted by a crown. These were my Mothers and her sisters rightful inheritance.

For one branch of my family, I can go back to the 1600 or 1500s. Just before my family came over to America from England. Fun fact, my family was actually present in America before the landing of the Mayflower. But like most Americans, I can't trace it back much farther than that, and the other branch of my family came much later, so peters out much earlier - around 1900 or so when my great-grandfather and great grandmother came over from Italy and Hungary, respectively. There is a possibility that the English branch can go back further, but we're missing a couple generations that would tie those that came to America to a line we found in England that goes back god only knows how far.

Have you ever read Terry pratchett? In the one village big country Lancre the king died and his heir wasn't made to be King. So that heir's halfbrother from a different mother became king after some back and forth. Joke is, the ex-heir and then king were both sons of the court jester. The king might have had a bastard child somewhere (he got around) but whatever.
Nobody can tell who was whose child without genetic tests anyway. There are loads of rumors and evidence that Prince Harry isn't Charles' son and that Charles and Camilla had a love child (older than William) that, amusingly, lives in australia after he was adopted by trusted servants who suddenly and inexplicably quit their job and moved to another continent with a newly adopted child.
Who knows how many of those people in that tree were really the children of the attractive earl whose country seat happened to be nearby, or the priest who took long confessions in a private room (more common than one might think, people confessed a lot and for a long time in the past) or something. I rather doubt there were too many stable boys though, high ranking ladies didn't have too much contact with those. A couple valets should be in any royal family tree that didn't get destroyed by incest though.

There is another aspect that could weigh heavier on Edward being illegitimate. He resembled strongly an archer of the crown than the Duke who was supposedly his father. There was no resemblance. Richard on the other hand DID resemble the father.
There were rumors at the time of his birth he was illegitimate. There was no formal christening mass in the church in front of the people just a blessing in the sacristy.
Also, Shakespeare made a reference to him being illegitimate.
This did not come up suddenly in 2004 with the revelation of one historian it was well known during Edwards's lifetime his mother had an afffair.
If there is a rumor, no proper christening, and the child looks exactly like the handsome stud the mother was supposedly having an affair with....

It is true that Edward did not resemble his father. He did, however, resemble his younger brother George, both being tall and fair. Richard III was the only son who physically resembled Richard of York, both being short and dark. So does that mean that George might also have been illegitimate? If so, that would mean that Tony Robinson's theory fails. A stronger argument in Edward's favour is that there is a presumption in English law that a child born to a married woman is the offspring of her husband. That presumption can be overturned, but only by a ruling of a court which must be based upon evidence. So until we can find evidence strong enough to persuade a court that Edward was fathered by someone else, he must be presumed to be the legitimate son of Richard of York.

    • @greywolf7577
      @greywolf7577 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

These days it is very easy to determine whether someone is the child of the husband or not. Just do a DNA test. Perhaps we can test the DNA of Edward IV's descendants (including the royal family) and compare them to the DNA of people who descend from Edward IV's supposed father through a different line and see if the DNA provides evidence of Edward IV being legitimate or not.

That's illegal without the consent of the the current "sitting" monarch. Would Elisabeth approve a request to disturb a royal crypt? No! Especially if it's true that Edward 3 & Edward 4 weren't related at all. It's possible that if some DNA was abstracted from both dead kings or even from Richard 3 & if Edward 4 doesn't match up with either Edward 3 or Richard 3 then it still might not be enough to have the Windsors or Glucksburgs (Yes, we are calling Elisabeth 2's descendants Glucksburgs for that's what they are! Not that it matters for they're illegitimate "especially Prince Harry & his would be descendants" because the Hanovers were illegitimate!). Because of Henry 7's Victory thru Conquest claim. Also, Simon has no right to use the Hastings since it's not his father's surname or even his mother's maiden name! Just because you descend from a family doesn't mean you can use their name if you're not immediately from the family. So his real name is Simon Lord-Abney (Yep, I went Spanish on you all). Speaking of Spain, Although Philip 6 is legitimate. His 2 daughters aren't!! Why? Because the queen has no right to be the Queen since she married another man before Philip & her "real" husband is still alive! Now this might be fine in Britain but Spain is a Catholic Country & the Monarch is head of the Church of Spain which is Roman Catholic! So technically Philip the 6 is unmarried & has no legitimate offsprings. So who is his heir then? Well he does have 2 older sisters who themselves have kids but the 1st sister is also illegitimate for the same reason as the pretender queen! Divorce is a No-No! What part of "Until Death Do Us Part" do you not understand?! Also, her ex husband isn't considered a member of the royal family anymore because of that. If that's the case, then the children along with the Princess should also be cut off without question or regret! So what about the 2nd sister? Well although she herself also got divorced, we can forgive her because it was out of her husband getting arrested & incarcerated! She does have a son & daughter, so that makes Philip's nephew the true heir to the Spanish Throne!

I'm sorry, being a patriotic Brit does not equate to loving Elizabeth II, or any member of the royal family. Patriotism mean being devoted to ones country. Despite the UK having a national anthem that's only about one person, the Queen is simply Head of State. She is NOT the country. Maybe to many she symbolizes the country, but symbols of a country (monarchs, flags, etc.) are just that. Symbols.
Loving your country should mean you want what is best for it in its entirety. As a fellow patriotic Brit, my take on what is best for the country is probably rather different from your, and it is not foolishly mixed up with one family.

In any case, Tony Robinson also highlighted the fact that the Earls of Huntingdon chose the wrong side in the Civil War and were (i think) stripped of their titles and lands as a result. Can you imagine, if Simon just marched to the Buckingham paace, like a boss and said: "Betty, I'm legitimate ruler, you're not! Get lost!"

As amusing as that is, he isn't the legitimate ruler, so it can't happen.

The ‘if’ game seems to fall apart with the objection that even if Edward IV was illegitimate, Henry VII still defeated Richard at Bosworth, which on many other occasions had been enough on its own to secure the throne. An interesting game, but I don’t think it’s in any way “Real”.

In all of this alternative successions, can you some time look at what would happen if the throne had passed to Mary Tudor queen of France’s grandchildren after Elizabeth 1 died? That was after all what Henry 8th wanted in his will. Also discuss how realistic that would be in those days rather than James 1 that had Scottish heritage.
