In over 42 years of being a joiner I’ve never seen anyone use a clamp to fit a simple door handle and I don’t think I ever will in the real world this guy is of his trolley he wouldn’t stand a chance in a proper site he’d be laughed of the job with this method But I admit he’s making a very good living at it Maybe that’s why true front line trades give him a wide birth

And everything done with a smile, nothing ever a problem, just an exciting challenge to overcome. Brilliant! Let's get Robin to 60k, 600k, 6million and beyond!!!
Hi Robin I'm a near 65 year old (about to retire) wood worker, watching your channel fills me with the enthusiasm I had when I was a 16 year old apprentice but was worn out of me by years of corner cutting and bad practice, keep up the great work. You deserve all the success that comes your way. As an aside, an old colleague of mine used to say " The Quality remains long after the price is forgotten".
There is also something much nicer when using hand tools, the quiet working environment is very underrated. Love the clamp idea. I am obsessed with having the handle parallel with the edge of the door, I use a combination square to achieve this so that clamp would really help.
Hi rob I have a question, I’ve been a carpenter for 23 years and find it hard to make it pay on price, but everyone on site earns a fortune, they say I’m too thorough and spend too long on small details perfecting my work, do you think there is a balance between doing a good job and doing it in a manner where you say that’s “good enough” whilst also not letting your standards slip to a poor standard, should you aim for standards like the NHBC who give tolerances for areas of work and instead of aiming for perfection aiming within this range ? Thanks
Glad to see someone using logic with the thumb turn position! I see more horizontal in the unlocked position than vertical, seems obvious to me but I guess it doesn’t matter to most
@@chrisbeale84 it’s the details that add up to make the job better than the competition… I promise I do get invited to parties! I don’t bring this shit up outside of work and the comments section!
Robin what’s the best to line up the security male and female screws on handles to keep your drill nice and square so there easier yo connect any tips 🙏🏻
we found that tall old people couldn't see the latch as they looked down so left the door unlocked. I installed more commercial latches a foot (300mm) above the handle n- much easier for everyone to know if occupied due to green/red showing on outside. Surprising little quirk but makes a difference when we have guests, especially when we have parties
On the latch knob on the inside, I file a slight 'X' in the through-bar where the grub-screw makes contact; they never work loose afterwards as the grub-screw has a bit of bite.
Well done Robin👍🏻 Theres no need to be surprised mate, your channel contains quality material and some very good advice. Keep it up. I’m a spark but still find the things the show of interest.
courtesy slot and thumb turn exactly as i have always done it, vertical open, horizontal locked mimicking a bar across the door. when lining a handle to the edge of a door, use an old blade from a combination square up against the side of the handle, the other side of the blade will be virtually in line with the door edge to easily line in the handle
Congrats on 60k subs Robin!! You deserve every one of them!! didn't clarify if your clamp had soft pads or not? Just wondered as a metal pad on the clamp would surely mark the new handles even if done up lightly.. if I can't find the soft covers for my clamps, I stick a bit of gorilla tape to them so they don't mark anything 👍
I have not seen those clamps in Calif. They look very functional. It was very nice being part of your channel while still manageable. When u have 200 thousand subscribers, u will have the apprentices answering all the comments. That will b their punishment for using a battery drill on lock installation. I get it though, everyone wants to have a chat with RC. I enjoy all the vids. How did u do in all the rain? Is your house in a well drained area? I hope so!! Thanx again for “chippy school!”
Hi Bill, the rain is a major issue at the moment!! I hope that I can still engage with the comments!!! Thanks for your kind words as always mate, enjoy your morning coffee!!
Deliberately dulling the drill bit seems bonkers. Would you not just set it further back in the Chuck? I always offer it up to what I’m drilling snd check it won’t punch right through. I know depth stops exist but never had the patience to set one of them up but lining the bit up in the Chuck takes literally a second.
I don’t watch your TH-cam channel to be redirected to ‘instagram’ to participate in a competition your doing for those who watch your TH-cam channel Robin…!!!…. Where the hell is the logic in that…🙁 !!
Well done Robin 💪🏻 Nice and steady on those handles no need to rush Keep up the good work pal I love the new T-Shirts too, will you be selling them on your web site? I’d wear one for work 👌🏻
Another way of doing if you don’t have a Brad or a small bit is to screw In a spacks or similar type of screw the same size as the one you’re using then remove it and screw in the useless soft ones they give you with the handles.
Good video 2 comments 1 I was taught to put cross head screws in with the slots upright and level. 2 if you are going to be that precise use a sliding square to set the door handles.
Sometimes we use a mass produced door, but If I had to guess what the average price we pay for an off the peg internal door I would imagine that it would be about £200+ hope that helps mate!!

Robin. Could you do a video on fitting a new door to an old opening as they're not always square. 🤔
Yes!! (please)

While you guys were looking at the handles been fitted I was looking at the door hinges and wondering.

I find that if you work on accuracy and quality, the speed will follow. If you go for speed the quality will slip. Definitely go for quality.
