It's the brand-new (plusher!) Dacia Duster! | Top Gear

  • The third-generation of a Top Gear favourite has definitely grown up - should we be worried? Why? Well, it looks a bit… too good, bluntly. A bit plush. A little too much equipment and swagger for what is supposed to be a cheap, no-nonsense, working hero.
But even though prices haven’t been announced as yet, Dacia insists that the Duster will continue to offer supreme value for money - and that it’ll be the most affordable car in the segment. Just how affordable is still up for grabs, but if it’s cheap enough, it’ll be a no-brainer. Just keep those prices down Dacia, OK?
In the meantime, take a look around the luxo-Duster with TG magazine's Tom Ford, and let us know what you think...

Reading so many positive comments here about the Duster makes me incredibly happy; it's like a dream come true. I'm one of the many engineers who've worked tirelessly for about 20 years for Dacia. The Duster wasn't a perfect car when it was first launched in 2009, and it's still not perfect now, but I'm proud to be part of its evolution. Seeing someone who drives a "fancy car" (Audi, Land Rover, BMW, Volvo) try a Duster, buy it, and give positive feedback was hard to imagine 15 years ago. Nowadays, more and more people are buying it, not just customers with fewer financial means. It's a significant achievement; the journey has been impressive. There are many models from famous brands that haven't reached this volume (more than 2 million units sold).
Thank you for the great video, for all the positive and constructive comments. I don't expect only positive feedback, but I'm pleased that ~ over 90% of the comments were positive, which is amazing. I feel like I can open a champagne to celebrate this… believe me, behind what you see - it s a very hard work, amazing dedicated people.. I left Dacia few years ago (for personal reasons), but it’s still like my family…

      @@plop31 MG4 is 30,000 euro (SE).
It depends on where you will drive it. I have a Renault Capture which has the same motor like Duster.
I drive around 6000 km per year in the city (9.5l/100km one average) and 6000 km per year outside the city (5.8 l/100km).
If I would buy an electric car this means around 1000 euro less per year if I would charge the car at home. I must drive the electric car around 8-9 years to make the difference. 100,000 km means the life of the car ... So .. no.
And if I would buy hybrid version (2000 euro more) , this means 500 euro/per year less on benzine (in 3-4 years I will make the difference between a hybrid and non-hybrid).
If you have I pizza delivery business I think EV is a solution. But I would buy a Dacia EV which is half the price of a MG4.
EVs are for upper middle class and is brought for status. Economically doesn't make any sens!

In 2016 I bought a new Duster. Had it for 4 years and it was 100% faultless throughout that time; rattle and squeak free, reliable and really comfortable. I’ve had Volvo, Audi, Ford, Citroen, Peugeot, Alfa, Lancia, Renault, FIAT, VW amongst others over the years. In all honesty, the Duster was probably the best of the bunch as an overall package.
And then there’s the low price!

It was just as capable as my dads car 😂 Yes it had to work a bit harder but it cleared the course nonetheless. 125000 euro car vs a 13000 euro car i believe it was at the time. Interior wise it wasn't even close to the GL, It was a sea of gray plastic with glossy brown bits at the time, but the Duster earned our respect. Great car 👍 And the brand has come a long way since then in terms of quality.

Honestly, why would you buy anything else in the UK today? It does everything you could ask for. Don't even think about performance, when did you actually drive a car fast for a long time and actually not get caught behind other traffic/speed limits? Fast driving in the UK, for more than a few minutes for a laugh just doesn't work now, get this and save a fortune, treat it as what cars today actually are- moving boxes for personal transport. Well done Dacia, this is actually a premium car and will be more reliable than any Audi. Great, interesting, well presented review by someone that wants to talk about the car, not themselves. Well done to you too for saying you actually like a simple, non flash car, wish more moto-reviewers would follow your lead.

This also means that when we drive over the German autobahn for wintersports holiday or summer holiday we are actually one of the few driving 160 +km per hour on the autobahn. Quite funny to pass all kind of fast BMW's and Porsches in this car. We will get a more luxurious car again in a few years, but it has been absolutely great and probably will remain great for the time we still own it. If it is as good as the earlier model regarding reliability, fuel costs and maintenance costs, I can recommend it. Also since it is very light, with four good winter tyres you can drive it up any snowy or muddy mountain road and tyres will usually have to be replaced because of age, not because of there is no thread anymore (change front and rear axle each year).

They could definitely tone down things way more for an ultra base model that's all about driving for people that you know...enjoy driving. Give us the best engine, 4x4, no electronics and a million things that can break (besides a basic A/C and ABS), and sell it for like 10k. Thing would sell like hot bread.

    • @garrybug907
      @garrybug907 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@tennolife9930 well yeah of course it would, any new car that would cost 10k would be an absolute bargain for everyone, the thing that Dacia has been so hard at work trying to do is offer a car which is RELATIVELY cheap, through different means of reducing pricing (harder plastics interior, cheaper materials and reused parts from older cars) and also offer some amazing looks, the new rebrading with the DC logo is possibly the best logo i've seen on a car in my whole life, it just looks so good and it makes them look like a very high budget company.
While the exteriors of the cars look amazing i'd say, even the 2023 variants of Duster, Logan, Sandero and Jogger, they are pretty cheap inside, plastic almost everywhere and stuff feels flimsy and cheap but what can you say, the Jogger starts at the price of 13k Euros, Logan at 16k, Duster at 17k, Sandero at 12k and Sandero Stepway at about 14k, the cars are all offering very amazing packages for their low prices, i think Dacia is making amazing strides into becoming a respectable car brand, people do like to shit on them for not having "extremely strong engines", you have to remember, this is a car that looks amazing, costs under 20k and drives like a charm , it is stupid to expect a cutting edge engine in such a car, the Duster Extreme version does offer 150hp engine but it does indeed pass the 20k Euro mark.
I appreciate what they are trying to do, hope more do as well.

I have the 2022 Duster Extreme and I think it's fantastic. This model takes what was a great car and really polished it up in those small areas where it wasn't as great. The stylings outside is similar but the rear with the jogger lights looks great. The materials for the trim looks good and the front and back bumpers being that material not showing scratches is really good. It's a bit bigger which is good because I like the size of mine but it's in-between a small and a mid sized SUV, this brings it closer to the mid size which makes sense with the bigster coming and having the stepway and other new models. The interior looks great, bigger screen with smaller bezel, nicer vents, nicer materials. Has a nice rugged, purposeful design still but a new different one that looks better. The guys at Dacia are very good at making great ideas with very little. An example I like is they have a seatbelt slot in the rear door trim so when you move the seats up and down, the seatbelts don't get in the way or end up behind the seat. Simple, costs nothing but practical. Even the mirrors are tough. I had someone in a range rover ram in the side of me in a hit and run. The mirror just lost the cap. What's funny is I had a similar result another time where I had an electric gate close and the sensor didn't pick up my car and the gate hit my mirror. The cap popped off but mirror was fine. Popped it back on. In the fiesta I had before as much as I loved it, the mirror would have broken off the folding mechanism and it'd be a new mirror

As the owner of the new Dacia Jogger Extreme 1.0TCe, I got to say that I'm impressed with Dacia and the way they went from a soviet block cars to modern, reliable and good looking vehicles. I have traveled with my Jogger to St Tropez and back to Sheffield, then I went to Poland and back, keep driving it daily to work and no issues at all with 11k miles on the clock. The 1.0 engine is nippy, accelerates well, drives up the hill with no problem all that with two adults, two kids roof box on top and boot full of stuff. It has a sat nav with free updates, blind zone sensors, auto climate control, cruise etc, etc. It has everything you need and nothing you don't need. The scratchy plastics are great with kids, easy to clean. Roof bars are brilliant and save a lot of money buying new ones. I do recommend Dacia. My next choice will be a difficult one - Jogger Hybrid or New Duster.

the new Duster looks beautiful, no doubt. Easily can be more classy with some color ''rupture'' inside: some insert of orange, red, will give more style to actual great design.

Well reviewed. I always liked the Duster. I was waiting for the Bigster but I only have two kids. This might tempt me away from it as I am assuming it will be just a big Duster.

Can't wait to see it in real life. Nice review. Calling this a bit pretentious and afterwards showing your own over the top Duster is very funny 🙃

I hope they still do the commercial van option. It really is a great vehicle for a small van and benefits of commercial tax stuff.

We were invited to the unveiling of this by Dacia. The video doesn’t do it justice. The build quality is very high in this car for the price. The youclip is a very clever idea and you are able to use a 3d printer to create anything you want. Incredible job Dacia and we’re ordering one as soon as we can. Finally an affordable car

this looks absolutly amazing, inside and out. Some things like the headrests and front and rear light kinda remind me of Volvo's current styiling and that's a good thing.

A lot of car for the money. Now as an option differential lock and low gear and this car is perfect. It looks really good, it is still affordable and when they add these off-road capabilities as an option it will be a great little off-roader as well.

I tried my friend's Kia EV6 just recently, and for an old trucker like me, it's absolutely terrible when the steering wheel moves on its own between my hands. Good you can turn it all of with one button in this one.

brilliantly done Dacia! that's when you hire a Porsche Designer and have him to the job 🙂

That is by far the best looking Dacia Duster I've seen to date, the front puts me in mind of a small Bronco. The hybrid version sounds like my Kia Niro, engine spec wise, I wonder how capable the 4x4 is offroad?
