- An enjoyable, more challenging route for the novice off-road mountain biker. The video pays particular attention to the terrain to ensure potential riders can judge if it is suitable for their level of riding ability before riding the route.
This is a lovely route for those riders who don't want anything too technical but fancy a little bit of a challenge!
This is a scenic, circular, emtb ride in the English Lake District National Park starting from High Cross car park on the northern edge of Grizedale Forest. A gravel and in places rocky bridleway takes you up to Tarn Hows and then down & across the A593 to ride a gravel cycle path to Coniston and up to the Coniston Copper Mine (disused). Another rocky bridleway is followed by a short but steep tarmac climb up to the car park on Walna Scar road. With views to the right onto Coniston Old Man you then ride a gravel section along Walna Scar road before turning left onto a bridleway, grass at first and then rocky, riding down passed a water filled quarry, into Torver. Easy cycling on a disused railway line/cycle path takes you alongside Coniston Lake before another steep gravel bridleway returns you back to the car park at High Cross.
This ride is 17.2 miles long & roughly 95% off-road.
I've put together this ride and several others as I've found a distinct lack of detailed information on rideable off-road routes for those of us with mountain e-bikes (hardtail or full suspension) who want to enjoy a non-technical, but fun, ride.
The number of senior e-bike riders appears to be rapidly increasing and I'm hoping these routes will be useful to those visiting Cumbria and the Lake District and maybe even the local residents, like ourselves.
A basic map showing the route is available at the end of the video or you can view the route on Komoot at Cumbrian e-bike trails using the following link: www.komoot.com/tour/157325807...

Another great vidio🙂
Cheers
Great video. I ride alone this seems perfect for me to do. An explore without much biking knowledge of the area and nothing too hairy that I'll come a cropper
I’m sure you’ll love the route. I’m way too old to risk a fall and I would happily ride the route again by myself - the only bit I hadn’t previously ridden was the Coniston up Walna Scar and down to Torver bit hence why I dragged Andy along just in case but it wasn’t as rough as I had anticipated!
How have you found the switch from a hardtail to a full suspension bike? Is it now more enjoyable to do these rides ....thinking of making the change myself but was wondering what your thoughts were on this.
Full suspension for me is a more comfortable ride over rougher ground and it seems to travel over the bumpier stuff with ease and makes me feel a lot more confident tackling stoney tracks. At times my head might say “I can’t do this” but the bike has other ideas and before I know it I’m over the problem! I just have to trust the bikes ability! I am a senior, novice rider so not got a lot of experience but just love the full suspension and wish we’d gone straight for them instead of hardtails. Hope this helps.
@@cumbriane-biketrails7944 thanks for the reply...will bite the bullet, take the loss on sale of my hardtail and go full suspension...enjoy your videos and as i have the komoot app will try some of them out...like you prefer non technical scenic routes in the Lake District
Would love to know what’s silly about techy routes!
🙂Perhaps wrong choice of word .... was speaking from my perspective as a senior rider meaning unsuitable for my own age & ability!
