Yeah, you can't t taste the rosemary when they use rosemary extract as a preservative. If you read food labels, you will see that rosemary extract is a VERY common ingredient. It doesn't affect the flavor of the end product.
Additional fun fact, rosemary extract is a very common preservative in pet foods (especially treats), because it's safe for most animals. If you've ever made homemade treats that your pet doesn't seem crazy about, compared to storebought treats, try adding a little bit of rosemary. A lot of times pets have just come to love the taste of rosemary since it's in so much of their food (in a high enough quantity to taste, unlike when it's used as a preservative in human food).

Most tasty!
Great as always! As someone with a family history of cancer I find it concerning how there's so much focus on real eggs and cholesterol and none on how Choline (which is in all animal based products) makes cancers, especially hormonal cancers, more aggressive.
There's only one study that found a link between choline intake and death from prostate cancer. The authors even discuss in their discussion that the evidence wasnt strong enough to show a causal link and that there may be other factors affecting their data. There have been larger meta-analyses since then that haven't shown any link, but to be fair I haven't looked at the sources and funding behind those studies. Also, plant foods have choline as well, albeit generally in smaller amounts. Soy has been linked to benefit and prevent hormonal cancers and yet soy has the mis choline of any plant source, so much so that nearly all choline supplements are derived from soy. Not trying to say eggs are a healthy food compared to plant foods, I'm just trying to say that there's nuance when discussing the link between choline and cancer and using single studies as fact can de-legitimize the actual health benefits of a plant based diet.
Totally agree. I've only had the just eggs and the trader Joe's one. The just egg patties are better than the liquid, but the trader Joe's one is horrendous. I used it to make french toast once with their vegan brioche, and it was awful. I had to throw it out.
Have you tried the recipe for vegan egg yolk dip? None of the egg substitutes I've bought have satisfied my poached egg craving, but a simple mix of cornstarch slurry, turmeric, nooch, and black salt has been my go to for months. Granted, I have not tried many egg substitutes, but this is a super simple and effective recipe!
Just a tip: I've used Just Egg to make mushroom/spinach quiche and it was light, fluffy and amazing. I also use the frozen ones to chop up and add to veggie fried rice. I find it really versatile.
Lol, that simply eggless did me dirty too!🤢 ...😅 you really took one for the team...thank you💐... I hope they listen and go back to the drawing board on that one! I'm also glad that just egg dropped their price from 7.99 to 3.99 in most stores
I'm not even vegetarian (though I love to cook for vegetarian/vegan friends), don't live in the US, but I just love all of your content! I would watch you rank all sort of things: Memes, Box Juices, bottled water, tv shows. anything!
I *loved* the Goblin King recitation! How ice to see that my Jennifer Connelly jab was taken in such good spirits! But what really interests me, if anything, is what can be switched for eggs in cooking & baking. I make some truly bad-ass whole wheat bread, for example, and it still requires things like eggs & dry milk in order to come out right. It would sadden me if, for example, that prevented me from serving you any, and there are probably many similar situations we could all run into.
I'm sorry I'm late to this, I was saving it for the weekend ha, so good to have our reigning vegan queen back tho!! 💖❤️💖❤️ PS it sure would be amazing to see Aria join you in on some of these at some point!! 🙏
Hey, glad you did this video, is a fair ranking. And it was informative also, at least regarding some of the products. There is also the one that is called the vegan accurate runny egg yolk from The Vegg. I suggest you try that one too, you might like it. Is kind of hard to get it, we had to order online for ours, but it was taste worth it. 👌 Good luck!
Black salt, black salt, black salt (AKA kala namak)! You gotta add it if you want that true "eggy" flavor. Just egg and the like don't add it for you in case you're using it in baking or other recipes that you wouldn't want it for, but for scrambled, quiche, etc, it's a must!
I'm an omnivore and although I like my meat, I also love some of the veggie meals too. I've got digestive issues that have yet to be properly diagnosed (always been told its ibs but none of the diets or medication work) i eat everything that's none free from : except butter and limited cheese (can eat normal cheese but it makes me sick so I stick to dairy free or have small amount of normal cheese). I love eggs but again, my gut doesn't. That's why I don't use eggs often. A pack of 12 lasts about 2 or 3 months for me xx
You can definitely get closer to 6-8 servings with the Just egg if you make it in the microwave, that way you loose less product to the pan... I do mine in 30sec intervals, stirring between each, until its done to my liking.
@@mmirandaaaax I'd like to give another tip, if you grease the bowl or mug; i use vegan butter, before adding the just egg it makes clean up MUCH easier... Especially if you can be lazy like me and sometimes leave a dish sitting.
For me it's hard to find any vegan scambled eggs in my local supermarket. How would you rate a selfmade tofu scramble (I prefer the recipe from Rainbow Plant Life) in comparison to the ones you've tested? Thanks for you vegan rankings. They are always so interesting and fun to watch!
I laughed so hard at the TJs "egg". I had a similar experience this week when I bought a package of oyster mushrooms. I finally made it to the Korean grocery store near me with its vast array of a variety of mushrooms. King mushrooms ... check ... delicious. Oyster mushrooms ... nice and fresh but had an odor that didn't agree with my sense of smell. Powered on and cooked them in my usual tofu scramble. Ate half of the scramble and could taste those mushrooms in every bite. Finally realized I was going to spew if I ate one more bite or smelled one more whiff of oyster mushrooms.
3 things: -Im actually gonna try that laundry detergent, Im tired of carrying a huge gallon to my laundry room in my apartment complex. also fuck plastic. -the fart noises when you were saying sulfuric had me wheezing. -so sorry about that last egg 😂
Okay, Ive been using the Earth Breeze laundry sheets for about 2 years. I got the unscented ones because I can't stand scents. I have noticed no difference from the liquid detergent I used to use. Cleans well, is way easier to take to my shared laundry. I like it. They are good. That's my review. But then after you runout of your current detergent.
I can honestly say I have never seen any of these in the UK stores, only Oggs and occasionally Crack'd. Love the video though and I know what to look out for when it shows up in the UK!
Just egg…I chop up mushrooms, green onion (sometimes additional veggies) put on parchment paper in my air fryer tray, then add the just egg and some black salt. Sometimes hot sauce. Air fry 10-15 minutes. When it is cooled, I cut it into 6 servings and put on an English muffin. Yummy!
I didn't even get a chance to eat the Trader Joe's egg because it smelled so bad I couldn't even eat it. I threw it away and called it a lost. I'm confused on how they thought people would like it. I'll be surprised if anyone likes it.
I was hoping that you would include tofu with black salt, pepper and nooch to compare with the others. I have tried JUST Egg, and liked it for omelettes, but for taste, convenience, and price, you can't beat tofu. The texture is like hard boiled egg, but the taste is exactly what I remember scrambled eggs tasting like. I used Trader Joe's sprouted tofu. I bought the black salt from an Indian market.
I haven’t tried all of these but out of the ones I have, my favorite is the pepita one! I do think it’s the most NOT egg like but I like that. I think it tastes better!! Also the ingredients are better than others that are usually just oils. And oh no, I just bought the TJ’s eggless 😭
The egg puns are far too good! And you're right, the only one of these I have in my grocery store is JUST Egg, and it's less expensive than chicken eggs! Also how did you know I needed to get laundry detergent? Hmmm
MERLE! In your report back to Earth Breeze, you can tell them that a certain rat had never heard of the company before, and is trying out a subscription because of their sponsorship for you >:)
I'm guessing the just egg changed their recipe because when I first tried it, it was pretty off but I love their just egg patties so don't see why it wouldn't be better now in the liquid form!
I don’t think that the simply Egg is a Trader Joe’s product. I know it’s sold there. But I actually got it at sprouts over a year ago, and hated it even then!
This came at such a great timing!! I was wondering what vegan egg alternatives are out there I would want to try 👏🏻🫢this video is such a massive help! Thank you☺️
Thanks for another fun video.Your content is so good enjoy all your jokes entertaining and also educational WIN WIN✌! I hope your channel blows up I think we need more vegan content to go viral to keep up with all the other cooks out there.I blame the algorithm. Loved seeing all the taste tests and your ratings. I would have to agree "Just Egg" is my go to. Also the price point is actually kind of okay for a treat now and again. AND YES!! the portion size per bottle is so out of touch with reality. But I give them a pass for creating a A plus tasting option. I haven't eaten real eggs in 15 years so I would try all these products except the last one and be so happy.
@Merle O'Neal I wonder if some of these may have come out differently if you hadn't done them all with constant stirring? For regular eggs, I mix in a little water or veg milk, mix well, then pour in the pan and allow to set before flipping, as one thing, usually for a sandwich. I tried that with JustEgg, and it IMMEDEATELY separated, and forced the product to become stir scrambled, almost instantly, rather than a flat disc. I have not tried the precooked version, because it is so much more expensive by weight. Thanks for saving the time and money for us with these tests. I can't imagine an $18 egg. I was hoping they went all out, and you could make deviled eggs with them.
The only problem I have with buying those sheets is the price!! Any of the sheets that are more earth friendly are so much more expensive then the commercial stuff.. which is unfortunate especially with the cost of everything rising.
I live in Mexico and we were getting bottled Just Egg for awhile. Then they stopped shipping it here, something about expiration dates being too short. But, I found it can be frozen perfectly well even though the maker says no. We started getting Simply Eggless and I agree with you… that stuff is vile!! Really bad tasting and non of my vegan buddies here will touch the stuff. Why can’t we get Just Egg again???
Black salt loses its sulphurousness after a little while exposed to the air - that's why it's best to add it at the end of cooking a tofu scramble, and probably why you add it yourself to the wunder eggs :)

None of the egg substitutes I've bought have satisfied my poached egg craving, but a simple mix of cornstarch slurry, turmeric, nooch, and black salt has been my go to for months. Granted, I have not tried many egg substitutes, but this is a super simple and effective recipe!
the last one made me laugh sooo hard. thanks for doing it and saving us from suffering it.
Just a tip: I've used Just Egg to make mushroom/spinach quiche and it was light, fluffy and amazing. I also use the frozen ones to chop up and add to veggie fried rice. I find it really versatile.
9:28 you literally became my best friend when you said that lil just egg bottle is "2 servings, 3 at best!" 😅💚💚💚
Lol, that simply eggless did me dirty too!🤢 ...😅 you really took one for the team...thank you💐... I hope they listen and go back to the drawing board on that one!
I'm also glad that just egg dropped their price from 7.99 to 3.99 in most stores
YOU KNOWWW it's true!!
Free range eggs are some of the healthiest food items imaginable. Literally packed with essential nutrients.
The labyrinth was up there with the princess bride for epic cult following movies 😂💚
When you combine egg and chorizo(or soyrizo) it looks just like the first egg substitute! Really takes me back 😅
Omg I felt that when you ate that egg at the end 😂😅. Love you Merle❤
🥴
Rosemary extract is a natural antioxidant and preservative, so I'm guessing that's why they used it in this hard boiled "egg"
ahhhhh that makes sense
I’ve finally got around to using aquafaba. It’s pretty amazing for whipping up!
Glad it's workin for ya
I just wanted to say that I highly appreciate the fart sound happening every single time you said sulfuric.
lmao im glad
Black salt, black salt, black salt (AKA kala namak)! You gotta add it if you want that true "eggy" flavor. Just egg and the like don't add it for you in case you're using it in baking or other recipes that you wouldn't want it for, but for scrambled, quiche, etc, it's a must!
You inspire me so much, Merle! Another fun video
I would love to see you trying others' recipes and then making a side-by-side comparison with either your favorite process product or your own recipe.
oooo this is a good idea
I love the just egg patties !! I work at a vegan cafe and we make a breakfast sandwich with them and they’re soo good
ohhhh I wanna sammie
You can definitely get closer to 6-8 servings with the Just egg if you make it in the microwave, that way you loose less product to the pan... I do mine in 30sec intervals, stirring between each, until its done to my liking.
Interesting tip thank you!
The last one is how real eggs tastes like to me
In cases hasn't been said before, I believe the Rosemary extract is used as a natural preservative.
As always, love your videos.
I really needed this video today
JustEgg products are my favorite. Folded patties for breakfast sandwiches and liquid for scrambled eggs. ❤
Finally realized I was going to spew if I ate one more bite or smelled one more whiff of oyster mushrooms.
i would love to try just egg but can’t get past the plastic bottle 🤦🏻♀️ would be grateful if you’d try a mung bean egg recipe!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Great suggestion!
Check out Cheap Lazy Vegan's mung bean egg recipe. I used it and it's the closest I've had to actual scrambled eggs
@@MerleONeal As an Indian, I would say it's pronounced as "Moong" but I loved you pronouncing like "Mung" haha.
@@Jeevan_Official you can see on the Just Egg label at 9:09 that we spell it mung. I've only ever seen "moong" on packaging of imported Indian foods
Sauce Stache also has a Just Egg dupe recipe
I honestly like the simply eggless, but i season it, add sautéed veggies and lots of nooch
3 things:
-Im actually gonna try that laundry detergent, Im tired of carrying a huge gallon to my laundry room in my apartment complex. also fuck plastic.
-the fart noises when you were saying sulfuric had me wheezing.
-so sorry about that last egg 😂
I DIDN'T KNOW IF ANYONE WOULD NOTICED THE ECHO FART! And yes, Earth Breeze is legit fantastic
"Hodo?"
"HOG-GLE! And thanks fer nuthin'"
😂
I can honestly say I have never seen any of these in the UK stores, only Oggs and occasionally Crack'd. Love the video though and I know what to look out for when it shows up in the UK!
Thank you for a nice alternative video.
Yummy!
I love just egg and just recently tried the patty version too. its amazing on a bagel sandwich! ❤🥯
I didn't even get a chance to eat the Trader Joe's egg because it smelled so bad I couldn't even eat it. I threw it away and called it a lost. I'm confused on how they thought people would like it. I'll be surprised if anyone likes it.
yeahhh it was foul
Rosemary oil is a natural preservative, that's why it might have been in there.
I'm a big fan of the pepita one! it does seem like the healthiest option.. and as far as TJ's .... run while you can
I was not a fan of the TJ's either, but I baked it with some strong sauces and seasonings and that made it bearable to at least finish the bottle :/
The egg puns are far too good! And you're right, the only one of these I have in my grocery store is JUST Egg, and it's less expensive than chicken eggs!
Also how did you know I needed to get laundry detergent? Hmmm
RAT!!
MERLE! In your report back to Earth Breeze, you can tell them that a certain rat had never heard of the company before, and is trying out a subscription because of their sponsorship for you >:)
I’m so curious about the wunder eggs but I’m never paying that much. Also, my fav was the powdered follow your heart eggs.
I'm guessing the just egg changed their recipe because when I first tried it, it was pretty off but I love their just egg patties so don't see why it wouldn't be better now in the liquid form!
I usually use Just Egg. Glad to know it ranks S tier! 😃
I don’t think that the simply
Egg is a Trader Joe’s product. I know it’s sold there. But I actually got it at sprouts over a year ago, and hated it even then!
rosemary extract is used as a preservative because it has antioxidant properties so that's probably why it was in the the hard boiled "eggs"
MAE thank you so so much for the kind words. Onward and upward we go!
I've always find strange the fact there is so much meat/eggs like vegan foods. There are so much more options than just trying to reproduce that.
The only problem I have with buying those sheets is the price!! Any of the sheets that are more earth friendly are so much more expensive then the commercial stuff.. which is unfortunate especially with the cost of everything rising.
Consider detergent powder. No heavy water, no plastic bottles
Simply egg was the first sub I tried and I just assumed they were all gross, great video
Ughhhh I'm so sorry to hear that, there's always tofu scramble in a pinch!
…did I hear a fart sound effect when you were talking about sulfur with Hodo???😂
There it is again with Wunder Eggs!!!
hehehehehhee maybe 👀
@@MerleONeal 🤣🤣🤣
There's something very dystopian about the hardboiled eggs. XD
rosemary extract often used for keeping things fresh its a natural preservative
Just tried the Wunder Hard boiled eggs with Rosemary and thought they were fantastic!
Black salt loses its sulphurousness after a little while exposed to the air - that's why it's best to add it at the end of cooking a tofu scramble, and probably why you add it yourself to the wunder eggs :)
ahhhh good too know!!
