Traffic in general is not a joke. Although I live in London, nowhere near as congested as the most congested cities, it still suffers from heavy traffic. The reason why it's no joke is because humans have a limited time on the planet, so if you're spending 3 hrs a day in traffic, that's 3hrs you can never get back. Traffic is also a problem because it causes the roads to be maintained more, it makes it difficult for emergency vehicles, etc.

27 minutes, 10 kms. Hmmm. Depends on the area, I guess. It takes us that amount of time to cover 4 kms along Ortigas Ave. Ext , and that isn't even during rush hour.
The system prioritizes cars, not improving access for public transportation. They restrict public transportation like buses, vans, and jeepneys from certain major roads for the sake of private vehicles. The roads are also just not built for the volume of vehicles that use them. Not to mention that because the salary rate in Manila is higher than in provinces so people from provinces commute all the way to Manila for work because they can't afford housing there.
This is why we have so many train systems in the works. I can't wait for the subway to get done, but that's still at least 5 years (if everything goes according to schedule).
What made traffic in Metro Manila worse was when the "ride-sharing" services started. The original purpose for ride-sharing was for people to literally share their cars by taking on other passengers going in the same destination route as theirs. But what actually happened was it put tens and thousands of 4-wheel sedans on the road as unmarked taxis or private car for-hire vehicles. Instead of other car drivers leaving their cars home when going to work, wealthier MRT/LRT commuters are taking these "ride-sharing" private car vehicles.
My friends have this quote " You go out the front door of your house as a Prince/Princess, but you'll arrive at your destination as a Spartan Warrior." Words never been truer.
When the Traffic makes us from defensive to aggressive drivers just to not be late on our destination, then you realize you what you become and reflect for the whole day😔.
The most egregious here is the volume of private vehicles on the road. You simply can't fit that huge amount of vehicles in the roads of manila. No matter what traffic system you use. Widening of roads will only encourage more people to buy their own car. It doesn't help that you have to wait in line to get into the public transportation then traffic, thus making you want to buy your own vehicle. Further reinforcing this nightmare on rush hours. since we have barely developed the areas around the capital, most work is found within. people from the provinces that are near enough travel to and from the capital everyday. Imagine if good work and wage existed outside.
I wish the president would do something about the issue regarding overpopulation in cities & crowded slums. Also bring back sex education to raise awareness about teen pregnancy or make abortion legal to counter against unwanted pregnancy please!
The thing about legalization of abortion is not that it would be bad, it would be great at first although a possible outcome would be since abortion is now legal there would be more potential teenage pregnancies since the option is now there to get rid of said pregnancy
@creepen8469 its only natural to fear or feel uncomfortable about abstract concepts that a person has no natural understanding of. but its also important to know that overgeneralization can be harmful to you & others. it creates a false narrative like stereotypes or an "us or them" scenario. Thats like saying all muslims are terrorists, homosexuals are sinners, black people are likely to commit crimes or that ultraviolent action or horror games turns players into psychos or muderers because of its gore & violent content and it should therefore be banned.
Crowded slums and overpopulation in cities are definitely problems, but those aren't the cause of traffic. The cause of traffic are private vehicles. Around 80% of all traffic in Manila is caused by cars, even though only 10% of the population own a car. Just look at the footage. Most of them are cars, only a few jeepneys.
@@brickstonesonn9276 or it could just be a combination of those other factors. private personal vehicles falls under a specific type of traffic congestion which are either classified as environmental, mechanical human-caused & infrastructure. humans are the most common cause of traffic. such as distracted or drunk driving. my point still stands that these issues are linked to a growing population. The more people living in urban areas means more drivers and roads becoming more crowded and prone to accidents which contribute to a recurring traffic congestion.
that slogan just a big excuse by the DOT because tbh it's not fun but infuriating esp if you travel to work. Our infrastructure has been very poor esp when it comes to public transportation. Private vehicles are everywhere, people not having discipline
this is the number one problem in our cities. because the government don't really put to much effort for the streets, and we suffered in many corrupt governments official. this causes unorganised streets/roads, and we cant really fix that because the streets cant get renovated, because of low funds. and the houses/buildings came first before a fully paved roads. that's why we don't have many side walks, also due to that our streets looks chaotic, and traffic, because we don't have many road rules, like you need to be in some lines to make a u turn or some turns.
Start from Tikling Antipolo, go to Tiendesitas in Pasig, at 6am on a weekday. This goes through the Ortigas Ave Extended. It's "only" 8km, but you're gonna spend close to 2 hours in this route. Somewhere in the middle (Rosario + Floodway) I swear walking is faster than the movement of traffic.
10kms in 27 minuted is fast in average 8kilometers which is the distance of my school and house jeeps usually take 20-40 mins with minimal traffic and with heavy traffic then it's 1hr+ or 2
In the mid 80s, the route you took from what is now Megamall (EDSA to Ortigas) was about 20 mins. From Camella Homes Parañaque, through the then new Coastal Road, to Sampaloc was about 35mins😮😂😂. Now I'm told that the same journey have been known to take longer than 3 hours if your timing is not right😮😮😮😮
With people thinking getting a vehicle is more convenient and some people using it as a status symbol, the Philippines will get more and more congested.
Just be watchful and make it a game predicting what other drivers want to do. Having a GPS helps warn you of your own upcoming turns. With this I went from not having touched a steering wheel in half a year to being my parents' driver for three straight weeks up and down Central Luzon.
Reason: EDSA. Edsa is the most congested in metro manila. I know because I am a filipino. (Now currently in the USA.) And safe to say traffic is like New York or any big city out here.
I live in a smaller, less congested city near NCR. I only travel to Manila when it's direly needed. Took a Grab, passed out inside the cab as I was running on fumes, no sleep for nearly a day, I woke up probably 45 minutes after, the cab moved literally just a few feet - terrible traffic but I got some badly needed sleep so that's a win I guess lol
In the Philippines we have also the best drivers in the world. We don't care about the rules and laws, once we learned how to drive no one can be on top of us
In some areas of Pasig City like Pinagbuhatan and Nagpayong, The Problem are the traffic enforcers they're just making it more worse, like after you pass them the entire road is almost empty Ive been 2 hours late because of that, And Im only 4km away from home to school
Just riding in a car on the roads of Manila rattles me. I can’t possibly imagine how it feels like driving amidst all that chaos and drama on the road.
Traffic is bad at around: 5pm-7pm and 5am-10am (because of work and school) Sometimes traffic is bad just because a dude crossed the road even when the light was red. 🥲 Sorry foreigners, Philippines be like that sometimes.
You know why? People across the entire Philippine Islands are in the capital city and major cities in Luzon, making the Metro Manila even way more conjested with population. Also the consecutive sets of leaders doesnt have the guts to implement the blueprints to develop and enhance road widenings etc. Thankfully a new set of subways are on the way and few extra stations for MRT and LRT.
I mean, it makes sense because the people that live in the countryside usually get underpaid or paid less than that in Manila, so they work there to support their family
lol, I remember back in 2014-2015 my option for transport was either MRT or JEEP+BUS. Commute from Pasay to Las piñas would take 3 hours. If you were to take the MRT, you literally have to wait for over an hour before you get from the back end of the line to the front. And when the train arrived, operator announced to wait for the next one as that unit was deadass broke. Government was smart enough to terminate prematurely the contract of the Japanese contractor who used to maintain the MRT and replaced it with an incompetent idiot who didn’t know anything about trains. If you were to take the bus, occasionally, you might be lucky enough to witness someone getting robbed and you couldn’t do sh*t since conductor of the bus is prolly in it too. If you hit the jackpot, you might be the one to get robbed. Manila have a lot of things, But comfort and security is a luxury. And those night life and parties will grow on you real fast. After a while, you’ll just notice the bad things. Unless of course if you live in one of those upscale communities, and you have the dough, you prolly won’t mind getting stuck in traffic in your private car. The best place to be, FOR ME, is still the provincial areas.
Driving a car in the Philippines is cake, get on a motorcycle or bicycle brings up the spicy levels. But definitely is wild driving the first time in the city.
Once got stuck in the U-turn slot under the Alabang Viaduct for near 3 hours. That's less than 400 meters to the U-turn in front of the then Metropolis Mall.
YEAH... So I travelled from Quezon Ave to Bacoor Cavite, during rush hour took me 5 hours. To lessen the travel time I always get out of the office around 11pm or 3am, my travel time was around 1.5 hours😅
i live far from my school and the drive always smooth but when i actually get close to the school it takes about 20-30 minutes to clear a very short distance just because of the sheer amount of students (there is also another school right next to us which also adds to the traffic)
As a filipino, my step mom can literally hage road rage. She's a calm nice woman with a funny humor but shit gets bad when she starts cussing in tagalog and hitting the steering wheel whenever someone cuts her off on the road during traffics
Me and my sister go to school in quezon. We used to live in Makati, edge of Guadalupe. From Quezon To Makati during rush hour, it is very possible for trips to last 4 hours
this is why its both better and worse to be on a motorcycle in manila, like damn its good to be able to lane split, lowering the time of arrival but its a higher chance of dying, especially at night
Bro, of all places, megamall? Edsa ? I would never go there and MOA too, or If I have to, i would go home before the rush hour, like 3pm or 3 am or something
when i went to los angeles for the first time in 2019 i remember the genuine disgust i had on my face when people talked about LA having the worst traffic in the world based off a filipino's experience: barely traffic. it's moving therefore it's not traffic. traffic is EDSA
The peoblem is that most of the time traffic rules are treated as sucgestions rather than laws to be obeyed. This is especially true for 2 wheeled vehicles and jeepneys... There have been so many times I witnessed traffic enforcers would just allow traffic violations happen in front of them when commited by motorcycle riders or jeeps but would come down hard on private car drivers. They have no understanding of common carriers...
You need to be super attentive and patient when driving in Manila (or anywhere in the Phils). Unlike in the US, traffic rules and regulations are inconsistently enforced. Don't be surprised if other vehicles aggressively overtake or cut you. And Philippine roads have more motorcycles than in the US, so be on the look out for those pesky guys weaving around. Undisciplined pedestrians are also a headache so watch out for them
The right of way not keep apart in the same lane as well as room ready apart for traffic to move in their lane for changing direction only rather than by pass and get around in peak hours. And must update each time traffic make ve in between with the room that did lost from apart or traffic end up the slow and stop for the jam.

i stay away from driving or commuting as best I can in places like makati, ortigas, and manila. And if i really gotta go I usually just ride my bike coz it's easier to weave thru traffic on 2 wheels
Going to Zurich city from a 20km town away in around 15-20 mins was a culture shock coming from the Philippines
If you could drive well in Manila, you can drive anywhere. I have a memory as a child when I was in a van, cars were centimeters from one another, and didn't hit anyone. Many good memories were made there and I can't wait to visit again. 🎉
since we have barely developed the areas around the capital, most work is found within. people from the provinces that are near enough travel to and from the capital everyday. Imagine if good work and wage existed outside.
Well, basically every country is following the US model unfortunately...
If you can drive in manila and survive, youre basically capable driving anywhere in thw world
PHILIPPINES WILL ALWAYS BE CHAOTIC IN WEEKENDS AND BER MONTHS!!!!!!!!!🦅🦅🦅🦅🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🦅🔥🔥🦅🦅🔥🦅🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🔥🔥🦅🦅
Yeeeeah its more fun in the Philippines 🇵🇭.
that slogan just a big excuse by the DOT because tbh it's not fun but infuriating esp if you travel to work. Our infrastructure has been very poor esp when it comes to public transportation. Private vehicles are everywhere, people not having discipline
Blud Driving Not obeying the rules is "Funner"? 💀
this is the number one problem in our cities. because the government don't really put to much effort for the streets, and we suffered in many corrupt governments official. this causes unorganised streets/roads, and we cant really fix that because the streets cant get renovated, because of low funds. and the houses/buildings came first before a fully paved roads. that's why we don't have many side walks, also due to that our streets looks chaotic, and traffic, because we don't have many road rules, like you need to be in some lines to make a u turn or some turns.
That “fccking chaotic” got me LMFAOSUD
Start from Tikling Antipolo, go to Tiendesitas in Pasig, at 6am on a weekday. This goes through the Ortigas Ave Extended.
It's "only" 8km, but you're gonna spend close to 2 hours in this route.
Somewhere in the middle (Rosario + Floodway) I swear walking is faster than the movement of traffic.
10kms in 27 minuted is fast in average 8kilometers which is the distance of my school and house jeeps usually take 20-40 mins with minimal traffic and with heavy traffic then it's 1hr+ or 2
If you wanna travel without a single traffic. Start at 12:00 Am to 3:00 AM that's what my school did in our field trip last month.
And imagine during the rainy season when there are increasing events of flooding causing the roads to be impassable.
In the mid 80s, the route you took from what is now Megamall (EDSA to Ortigas) was about 20 mins. From Camella Homes Parañaque, through the then new Coastal Road, to Sampaloc was about 35mins😮😂😂. Now I'm told that the same journey have been known to take longer than 3 hours if your timing is not right😮😮😮😮
Come and live in Cebu. Hehe. There's still traffic, but it isn't as horrible as Manila. 😅
it looks just as bad in rush hour.
Why don't you walk or cycle? Maybe you could get there easier
Yeah people just keep crossing when they see no sign saying “No Jaywalking” 😂 relatable in my country 😂😂😂
Thank u for going to my country :) :in Philippines version: Slamat pumunta ka po so bayan namin :)
All these offices are in a specific place. Decentralization is key.
Traffics is so bad inManila we're all finding the weirdest routes to avoid traffic 😭😭😭
Bruh, I remember when I was on Quezon City we were stuck for like 4 hrs literally, that was originally 20mins ride😂😂😂
This is why I go out by 5 am just to travel to school 💀
This is why we take the private bridges to be above all that traffic
Driving a car in the Philippines is cake, get on a motorcycle or bicycle brings up the spicy levels. But definitely is wild driving the first time in the city.
Once got stuck in the U-turn slot under the Alabang Viaduct for near 3 hours. That's less than 400 meters to the U-turn in front of the then Metropolis Mall.
Bro everyday when I go to school at Cavite, THERES AN WHOLE BIG TRAFFIC EVERYDAY, so traffic is very normal for me😂
Yea SoCal here too I feel like nothing is new to me when I visit manila it's like congested traffic everywhere I go
YEAH... So I travelled from Quezon Ave to Bacoor Cavite, during rush hour took me 5 hours. To lessen the travel time I always get out of the office around 11pm or 3am, my travel time was around 1.5 hours😅
Your driving skills will be tested here...don't blink😂
Bro thought he could do pasig to megamall in under 30 minutes. That's a lucky privilege on a rare good traffic day. Very rare.
I'm so used to the traffic here that as long as the vehicle is moving and not stuck, I don't consider it traffic anymore 😅
i live far from my school and the drive always smooth but when i actually get close to the school it takes about 20-30 minutes to clear a very short distance just because of the sheer amount of students (there is also another school right next to us which also adds to the traffic)
As a filipino, my step mom can literally hage road rage. She's a calm nice woman with a funny humor but shit gets bad when she starts cussing in tagalog and hitting the steering wheel whenever someone cuts her off on the road during traffics
you showing the bike lane makes me wanna just walk man 😂😂😂
Me and my sister go to school in quezon. We used to live in Makati, edge of Guadalupe. From Quezon To Makati during rush hour, it is very possible for trips to last 4 hours
Watching him get unhinged by the manila traffic is funny because my dad was like that too
“It’s more fun in the Philippines”
Filipinos: *Danny DeVito shaking his head*
Uyyyyy, Philipines!!!
Edit: Good thing there's no road fixing or more like, road replacing
this is why its both better and worse to be on a motorcycle in manila, like damn its good to be able to lane split, lowering the time of arrival but its a higher chance of dying, especially at night
I can testify, its a free for all there Filipinos don't care about traffic or rules unless their the victims of an accident
As a filipino
PUT THE FINAL BOSS MUSIC
Bro, of all places, megamall? Edsa ? I would never go there and MOA too, or If I have to, i would go home before the rush hour, like 3pm or 3 am or something
when i went to los angeles for the first time in 2019 i remember the genuine disgust i had on my face when people talked about LA having the worst traffic in the world
based off a filipino's experience: barely traffic. it's moving therefore it's not traffic. traffic is EDSA
Ayo! You past by my street! I saw it in the background
We should called it Trafffic Empire😈✨🔥🔥🔥
There's a lot of obstacles while driving in Metro Manila. It definitely builds character, not the good kind 😂
Undisciplined pedestrians are also a headache so watch out for them
As a Filipino I'm insanely scared of Driving in Manila. Saludos to my brothers
The right of way not keep apart in the same lane as well as room ready apart for traffic to move in their lane for changing direction only rather than by pass and get around in peak hours. And must update each time traffic make ve in between with the room that did lost from apart or traffic end up the slow and stop for the jam.
As a Cab driver 10km in 27 minutes, is a sort of world record speed for Metro Manila traffic. 😂
Getting out of mega mall itself is a challenge not to mention getting home from there
Such a sissy! Many of us had driven 10Kms for 2 hours days before Christmas day and during heavy rains. 27minutes is pretty fast!
makes me kinda curious about the traffic in INDIA if it is worse. Makes me remember the joke Peter Russell did about how, "Traffic? no road? Okay, no problem. In India, we MAKE roads" or something like that 😂
