You want a personal memory, this is one of the few horror films that scared me as a 5 year old kid in 1985. The scene where he stalked the girls in the bushes coming home from school, but especially Annie's death lol. Even though i don't drive, and ride in the passenger seat, this film taught me from a young age to check the back before getting in a car lol. Maybe why in recent years it overtook Die Hard as my favourite movie. I always watch it at Halloween usually with a few sequels as well, but tend to watch it at least 3 or 4 times throughout the average year.

@@NiceDudeMovieNight But, it goes with his character because he just broke out of the asylum. So, all he's wearing is the hospital gown. When he meets up with the tow truck driver, he kills him for his uniform - coveralls and boots.
My theory is also that Myers got his first mask from the tow truck driver, as well. If you notice, we don't see his mask during most of the day. Only when he's standing across from the school staring at Laurie Strode. But, later, he steals masks, knife, and rope from the hardware store. Then, when we see him again, we finally see his mask in full.
I wonder about the rope. He didn't use it for getting the headstone from the cemetery. So, he had to have been planning his "arts and crafts" with her friends' bodies for a while.
One more thing: I think Myers kept missing Laurie Strode on purpose to terrorize her, extend the chase because she's going to be his final victim of the night, and because he wants to make his final kill worth remembering the way Judith's kill is still on his mind 15 years later. He likely knows he's going back to the asylum afterwards if he's caught, so he wants to make sure it's memorable.
The scariest thing about Myers isn't his ninja skills, breathing, silence, strength, or homicidal tendencies. It's his high intelligence, dark cunning, and seriously twisted sense of humor. haha
Fun reaction. I look forward to seeing more

    • @DanielS2001
      @DanielS2001 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@LA_HA The rope he did use (which is why Bob is hanging upside when Laurie finds him. The level of detail is the knife. Later on, after Laurie stabs Michael with the knitting needle, she picks up his knife and has it ready in case she needs to stab him again when she looks over the couch. She drops this knife by the couch. When Michael attacks her upstairs, she uses the knife he was carrying with him after she stabs him in the eye. However, the knife is still shown to be downstairs next to the couch. Many chock that up as an editing error. However, there's a reason for that to not be an editing error. Brackett said earlier in the film, the only things taken from the hardware store was, "A Halloween mask, some rope and a couple of knives." A couple of knives, as in two knives. Michael had two knives on him the entire time, and one was left downstairs next to the couch while he came up stairs with the second one.

    • @LA_HA
      @LA_HA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@DanielS2001 Yep. I wrote "knife" in error. I meant to write "knives" since "a couple of knives" is typically 2, but could be 3. In one of the comic books, Myers actually had a stash of his favorite masks, which makes sense. So, it wouldn't surprise me that he kept many knives that he favored as well. Though, I also note that he has no problem taking knives where he finds them. Just like the coveralls and boots.
Myers did carry a knife up the stairs, so I agree with you about it being a second or third knife that he stashed away either in the car or elsewhere he'd been stalking around. He may have had them in the coveralls, too, but it seems more ninja to hide some around than carry them all. haha.
That he did the same with a few masks could explain why his mask is always clean after he kills someone. But, he may simply be cleaning it, or it stays clean because Myers wills it. A lot like I think he wills the strange way his knives can do things for him that they wouldn't normally do for anyone else. Even in Resurrection, he's able to walk up and down the stairs without so much as a creak while the others fall through the rotted areas a few times.
I know it's geeky, but it's fun thinking about the little things that seem to be a mystery to other fans. ha. So, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. If you have any other ideas, I'm down to hear them

Trivia: It was supposed to take place in Illinois but it was filmed in Los Angeles. If you watch the distant background you can see palm trees from time to time. They also used fake painted leaves to make it look like the fall, which they collected and re-used after filming each scene.

Here's a trivia. The song that's playing when Laurie and Annie are driving around and Michael is following in the car behind them is "Don't fear the reaper". A different version of this song also plays during a scene between Sidney and Billy in the original "Scream" as one of many homages to "Holloween".

All the stage direction John Carpenter wrote consistently refers to "the figure." by referring to it only as "the figure" John Carpenter got into the mindset to portray it as something distinctly other than human. "Michael Myers" is what it used to be before it turned into this twisted thing. That is explicitly reflected in the "it versus him" dialogue.

    Trivia:
    - There is no "Haddonfield Illinois, the town was based on Debra Hill Capenter's hometown of Haddonfield, New Jersey"
    - The Mask: In 1975 William Shatner did a movie the "Devil's Rain" in it they did a special effect with his face, so they made a life cast of his face and used it for props. When the film wrapped up, they used he cast as a negative for "Captain Kirk" star trek masks. In 1977, Halloweens Producer tommy lee wallace on the budget of just 325,000 dollars; wanted a mask on the cheap so he went to a hollywood Costume shop and bought three masks, one a childs clown mask (in he beginning of the movie) a Sad clown Emmett Kelly mask (abandoned) and a kirk mask prop master, cut the sideburns/eyebrows off, fwipped the hair, cut out the eyes and spray painted it Krylon "Applianace White"
    - was filmed in 20 days
    - All the dark scenes in the movie are real, unlike most hollywood movies which are backlit, Halloween was filmed at night, without accessory Lights (They couldn't afford it)
    - There was no costume budget: All of the actors wore their own clothes, since there was no money for costumes

Some more trivia you'll like is that the mask is William Shatner's face. The film had a really low budget so they just went and bought the cheapest mask they could find, which happened to be Captain Kirk. All they did to complete the mask was cut the eyes a bit bigger, paint it white, and mess with the hair.

The ending is perfect. Nothing more required. I'd like someone to explain why we needed any sequels to this whatsoever, from a story perspective. Yes, money was involved, and Carpenter himself had to be bribed heavily to write Halloween 2 so he could make The Fog, but those things aside - no need.

The movie they're watching is actually The Thing From Another World, which was an oldie even then, released in 1951. It was based on a novella from 1938 called Who Goes There.
I took a class in college that compared all three versions of the story and put them in context of their moment in history. The teacher's hypothesis was that the 1938 version was about nazi sympathizers hiding among us. You know, how they look just like everyone else. The 1951 version is supposedly about communists, that being the worry at the time. The 1982 movie is about HIV/AIDS, which is why blood testing was added to the storyline and the whole thing became much more about body-horror.
Carpenter kept the cool lighting/font from title card of the 1951 movie when he made his own remake, because it looked so badass. But if you watch the earlier movie, you'll see, much smaller, under "THE THING" are the words "from another world."

  • @The3rdGunman

The scene at 1:58 you can actually see the wrench in the stunt guys hand used to break the glass...
The fall leaves on the ground were flown in from another state to make Pasadena, CA look like illinois in the fall. John Carpenter & Debra Hill themselves had three garbage bags of leaves that they'd drop in front of a fan on an extention cord for each shot requiring.
Tommy Doyle's pumpkin that gets broken and the pumpkin Laurie carves for the kids were actually green gords spray painted orange because they couldn't get pumpkins in the spring when it was filmed.
The scene when Laurie sees Michael hide behind the bushes and her friend goes to see, when she says "He wants to take you out tonite" You can see a smoke ring blow by from the left. This was John Carpenter smoking off camera.
Nick Castle the actor playing Michael Myers directed The Last Star Fighter & Mayor Payne

The reason why the neighbors "checked and don't open" is because it's Halloween night. They see someone screaming for help, covered in blood, they think it's just a teenager pulling off a prank (which pranks are common on Halloween night), which makes things even more frightening as a result. The fact that had this been any other night, those neighbors would have opened that door and took her inside. But the fact that it was Halloween night, they instantly took it as a prank by default.
As for trivia, how about this: The station wagon used in the film isn't really a champagne color that it looks like in the film. The real station wagon is silver in color, but due to the color grading used on the film, it gave the car a more champagne color look. A fan actually managed to track down the original car used in the production and restored the vehicle back to how it looked at the time of filming (using the original silver color and added the correct cage in the back of the car, and the "Official Use Only" stickers wit the Illinois state logo). You can find the video interview with him about the car on TH-cam.
Another interesting one: The interiors used for the Wallace and Doyle houses are actually not the same interiors of the houses you see used for the exteriors. The interiors used were from houses next door to the houses used for exteriors (in fact, the neighbor's house that Laurie runs up to for help after escaping the kitchen while being chased by Michael is actually the real exterior for the house used for the interiors for the Wallace house, while the house used for the Doyle house's interiors are actually next door to the exterior used for the Doyle's house, which you are able to see the exterior of in Halloween II). In fact, if you look at the exterior of the Wallace house, you can see that the room that Bob and Linda go into after going through the door doesn't exist on the outside (which can be clearly spotted in the closing montage).
And finally: The house used for the Myers house was really an abandoned house that was purchased for the production. After filming the present day scenes, the cast and crew (Carpenter included) painted and dressed the house to make it look great for the opening 1963 scene (and the only areas shown in that scene were the only ones made up, as the rest of the house was left alone because they wouldn't be seen in the film). The house continues to exist in fact, as it was relocated from the street that it was on seen in the film to across the street from where the hardware store is in the film (the lot it now sits on is to the right of the screen as Laurie and Annie pull up to the hardware store to speak to Brackett). The house itself is a doctor's office now, and it is still visited by many fans of the film.

Laurie was the adopted sister, michael escaped the hospital with loads of drugs in him thats why he kept getting up after being stabbed. More is revealed about the kills in part 2.
Michael and laurie are half brother/ sister. I bet no one knew that. That's why you gotta 2 part 2 .
After 40 years Halloween kills 2021, and HALLOWEEN ENDS october 14 2022.
They finally end the Halloween saga. The film makers gotta do justice to the story to the Halloween fans .

They had to do us justice after H20... Man, seeing Michael Meyers bright blue eyes throughout that movie instead of gaping black holes turned me off this series something fierce! I had even enjoyed all the sequels up to that point!

Did you know that the mask that Michael wears is a Star Trek Captain Kirk Halloween mask spray painted white?

My favorite Halloween movie is the Rob Zombie 2007 remake, if you haven’t seen it I hope you add it to your list.

Why are you looking at your hand while stabbing me!?

  • @Lance_Langlois

Some more trivia: The hand you see grabbing the knife from the drawer and stabbing Judith Meyers is actually Debra Hill, co-writer and producer. If you really want to stay within the timeline then you should jump to Halloween 2018 followed by Halloween Kills. All the rest divert from the original.

Ha, that's awesome to know! And yeah, we've actually seen the new 2018 film! Still have yet to see Halloween Kills, but maybe sometime we'll muster up the courage to watch Halloween: Resurrection for fun 😂 Thanks so much for watching and sharing!

Pretty sure Halloween 2 doesn't divert from the original. Seeing as it takes place literally after the first ends.

@@promontorium Unless you count reshooting the ending of the first movie and pretending like we never saw Michael Myers' face as "not diverting".
