OUR STORY SO FAR:
We are Cory & Kristen Williams and in August 2014 we made the long drive from Southern California to Alaska to move into our new home in Eagle River. Here we’ve had the chance to explore Alaska, experience lots of wild events, meet lots of great people and endure the extreme temperatures that the north is known for. On December 20th, 2014 we got engaged after our Polar Plunge under the Northern Lights then later married by our favorite lake on May 23rd, 2015. Then on June 23rd, 2016 we had our first child. A baby girl named Chell.

WHAT DOES "DudeLikeHELLA" MEAN?:
"Dude" is me, Cory. I am the dude. "Like" is a joining word which is used to express similarities and "HELLA" is slang for "a lot" or in my case, "the greatest amount". So together, "DudeLikeHELLA" means "The best me I can be".

As several others have pointed out, the wind blowing directly in Chell's face does make her hold her breath. This is also used when teaching babies to swim. When my wee ones were big enough to go swimming with us, I'd hold them in front of me, letting them be submerged about to their chests. A quick puff of my breath in their face, they'd hold their breath, momentarily, and I'd quickly "dunk" them under the water and right back up. The surprise on their faces was always priceless!
Kristen, when you are home alone...sleep! Trust me. Take a big nap! Just do it.

Watching you learn about your precious baby makes me cry...Treasure every micro second with her...time goes by so fast and in the end, it is all about love.

Go Cory ! You are such a cool Dad. Chell will get exposed to all the things that are wonderful about life in the outdoors. No 'city' girl there. She'll probably end up wanting to be a Ranger or something. She is so cute. That smile is heartbreaking... then she waved. Uh... no words for that. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful challenge ahead of you. Raising a little girl is pretty hard as you'll see in a few more years.

Kristen, when I have time to myself I find a salon that has those massaging pedicure chairs, and I get a pedicure. Between the chair rubbing my back and some one pampering my feet I am so relaxed when I leave!
Cory, yes all of my babies have done that from anything that produces a blast of wind. And when they get scared too! It's because of their startle reflex I believe!?

WHAT an adorable smile she has! And I'm amazed at how quickly she goes from utterly smiling to dead-serious too ;-)) It is wonderful to see how interested she is in everything. You've got one intelligent girl there.
So nice! Can't go wrong with a gorgeous hike in Alaska with the wee one. We used to take our littles out in a canoe on Mirror Lake to picnic on the water. These days I am teaching my 4-year old grandgirl plants we pass on our walks and which ones (and what parts) can be eaten. Started when she was two and she knows yarrow, fireweed, clover, sitka rose, dandelion (and others) by sight any time of year. Really a fun thing to do on walks. What a little beauty that Chell is ... and that smile!
I don't know why, but everytime you do a close-up on Chell's beautiful face I feel myself tearing up--she is just such a beacon of light

Kristen, I loved that story you were reading to Chell at the end.your voice was wonderfully soft and Chell loved it too! Could you call any of your coworkers and invite them over, or meet them for lunch when Cory whisks hell away on an adventure? Maybe take Penny for a hike yourself? Or go get a massage! Do something nice for you!

That feeling of being out in the middle of nowhere while still being within easy reach of civilization is one of the reasons why I love living in the Mat-Su; hop on my bike, head to a little spot by Earthquake Park and it's just me and the airplanes, but I can still see downtown.

9 years old huh? I bet those years flew by fast. I still have a few GCI stickers laying around but I'm keeping them for myself in case of emergencies. ;)
+DudeLikeHELLA that the years have. she just started school today the third grade. and I was not asking for 1. I was making a joke based off of things about GCI you have said in past videos. actually the first video of yours I watched was because of a yahoo news article where you beautiful wife told you she was pregnant and that brought back memories of when I found out I was gonna have a daughter at first I was acting all tough the about 20 minutes later I broke down in tears of joy
My kids are 9 and 12 and I still started reciting Goodnight Moon with Kristen. And how cool was that, "say good bye"... Chell waves. :D

You will have to sign her up for the Jr. Iditarod next year. The development she has done in two months, she will be ready to go sledding for sure by December. She is developing SO FAST!!
Yes the temperature change of wind can take baby's breath away! It's more common in the winter, but you are in Alaska after all.
+DudeLikeHella, yes the wind if it blows right in their face kind of takes their breath away. That's why if a baby is holding their breath a quick blow in their face usually gets their breathing back. Wise move turning around as it can't feel very good for a wee one.

Corey, you mentioned that you would like to learn about the plants. I use to teach a wilderness survival course for the local Boy Scouts troops and found an excellent pocket reference book for field study was the Peterson Field Guides "Edible Wild Plants". I recommend this guide to anyone who is seriously interested in learning about plants in their areas. Standard rule of thumb, if you're not positive, don't put it in your mouth because for every Edible plant, there is a poisonous look alike. So it's imperative to know the subtle differences. Such as wild carrot, it's poisonous cousin is Queen Anne's lace. It you run your finger down the stem of the green tops and it is smooth, it is Queen Anne's lace, if small white hairs stick out it's a wild carrot. Happy learnin, hunting and exploring to abundant world of wild plants.

You should get yourself a journal/calender book to write down all of your adventures. Yes, I know you have a video vlog going but just a list of things you guys all do together or by yourselves. Keep it simple. Date, time, place you went, weather conditions, Chell's reaction, something new you learned. A kind of diary of sorts. Something that you'll be able to hand down to her that she'll be able to hold in her hands many years from now and be able to feel the love.

This is one of my favorite vlogs. There were so many precious moments in this one. Like when Cory was holding Chell by the water and relaxing with her in the sunlight. And oh my goodness I can't get over how beautiful Chell looked when she was smiling in her car seat. And it was such a sweet moment when Kristen was reading to Chell at the end and Chell was looking up at her so intently. These vlogs keep getting better and better. I just love this family so much!!!
