    when I was a kid I used to fly the N64 controller as though it was a space ship(imagination); and the rumble pack was like a cool device connecting to the spaceship in mid space for enhanced space travel. I mean the controller reminds me of the X wing from Star Wars!

    The PS2 controller, without a doubt.
    It had everything where it needed to be, the shape was perfect, and the heft it had made it feel like a true, not hollow, controller.
    Also, the texturing of the joysticks was a very good touch.

  • @TBustah
    @TBustah 10 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    The Gamecube is probably still my favorite.
    It's mainly because of the shape. It's the perfect size and contour to wrap your hands around. It's only real shortcomings are the right hand buttons, I would have preferred it if they'd returned to the SNES layout.

    • @TBustah

    My favorite was the Sega Saturn controller. It is great for side scrollers and has no comparison as far as fighters go. It's only drawback is only two triggers as opposed to four, but having the six button layout is a way better trade off, especially with fighters.

  • @samgarncarz8172
    @samgarncarz8172 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have to agree, I love the PS3 controller. People complain that they don't like the analogue sticks next to eachother and that it's too small, but I just love the design.

    • @kchorro2012
      @kchorro2012 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like it a lot, it'd be my favorite if the R2 L2 triggers weren't that sensitive in some games (I remember casting magic accidentally a lot in God of War 3), so I'll go with the PS2 controller. Still, it is pretty nice to use the DS3 controller in a computer.

  • @Farmeryeti

      @NinjaLB8 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I honestly love any and every Dualshock there is :) However, the 4 did feel a tiny bit strange when I first picked it up (3 as well) But I still love the simple, symmetrical, perfect design that the Dualshock offers

    • @gerardolarios54
      @gerardolarios54 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      NinjaLB8 I agree, I just grew accustomed to it. Picking up a 4 then a 3 feels awkward. Two was by far the greatest when it came to weight and durability I swear my duelshock 2 would still work after a burst of rage lol you know what I mean...

    • @NinjaLB8
      @NinjaLB8 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely know what you mean haha; I miss both of my PS2s, I had a Slim and a Biggy but randomly neither will play games, but they do startup and my PS3 can't play PS2 titles either. Why can't we just have some good ol' fashioned backwards compatibility when we need it, especially for my shelf full of games

  • @TheSecondIDare

  • @JonathanMoloney
    @JonathanMoloney 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nintendo 64 controller! Just felt so beautiful in the hands, and the control stick and z trigger were brilliantly implemented. The A, B, R, and Z buttons were the core buttons and the ingenious design meant hardly any finger/thumb movement was needed, which is absolutely what you want when playing a game. It was an evolution in controller design at the time and is still to be bested i.m.o.

  • @noizyme
    @noizyme 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The SNES controller was one of my faves for years, and the design was used for future designs of the better systems' controllers, IMO. Quick note: you forgot to mention the 3DO's addition of a headphone jack in the controller which set that apart, and there was no talk about the change from ABYX buttons to PSX's circle, square, triangle, x buttons. That always boggled my mind and made gaming so confusing at the time, for me.

    • @zephiel123
      @zephiel123 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the subject of the Playstation consoles using Circle, Square, Triangle and X buttons, my theory is that Nintendo had already sued Sony for using the name "Play Station" which we all know became PlayStation (yes, they literally just squished them together haha) so Sony probably figured not to use the ABXY configuration since the controller already looked so similar to the SNES one (you have to remember, the original PS controller did not have analog sticks and that the SNES and PS controller were basically the same, except the PS controller had the handles and two extra LR buttons.)

    My favourite, Sony Playstation original analog controller, not the Dualshock, but the one before that with longer handles and not rubber mushroom sticks the one with caved sticks. But overall Dualshock is my favourite now days, I prefer it over 360 controller, because of better d-pad and symmetrical positioning of sticks, I'm so used to it and it's more comfortable to my thumbs. I just hope DS4 is great too, I believe it's going to be.

    The N64 controller doesn't get enough respect. Maybe it's the nostalgia taking over me but no matter, I LOVE THE NINTENDO 64 CONTROLLER. The memories of playing Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Bros., and much more. Some people don't like the way(s) it's held, but just get used to it and you'll love the heck out of it soon enough. LONG LIVE THE NINTENDO 64!!

  • @BrianCostelloe
    @BrianCostelloe 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A couple of odd (but awesome) controllers not mentioned were two Playstation controllers that really blew me aware for innovation. First was the ASCII Grip One Handed Controller (do an image search guys) which allowed you to play RPG's one handed while you had a coffee or smoke. I spent hours playing FFVII with that one!
    Secondly the Negcon controller from Namco for Ridge Racer. It was a fairly plain looking PSX controller at first till you realise that you twist the controller in half to steer left and right. Sounds so wrong but just felt perfect to allow tight controls around corners!
    Great video guys (as always) and keep 'em coming.

  • @alpha-0874
    @alpha-0874 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the 360 and PS2/3/4 controllers are all pretty well tied for me. They all worked very well for the games I played with them.

  • @gamingcomicanimation
    @gamingcomicanimation 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I really like the Sega Saturn controllers too. Oh and the Dreamcast controllers are nice. Wii U controllers are extremely comfortable and has a screen, so that's awesome. Not a fan of the Wii controller though. The concept sounded cool, but whenever you tried to play RPGs on Wii, it was very weird to say the least.

    • @JMFSpike
      @JMFSpike 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      "whenever you tried to play RPGs on Wii, it was very weird to say the least."
      The Wii only had a handful of retail games that qualify as RPG's. Most are VC games which the Classic Controller was made to play, although for certain consoles(NES, Master System, TurboGrafx-16) you can just play with the remote horizontally to simulate those particular controllers. As for the aforementioned handful of retail Wii RPG's, almost all of them can be played with either the Classic Controller or Gamecube controller, so it doesn't have to feel weird.

    • @gamingcomicanimation
      @gamingcomicanimation 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      JMFSpike Ya I suppose that was a stupid comment I made. Lol. Most RPGs on Wii use the classic controller anyway. The Wii controller works for RPGs, but it's a little strange having motion controls in certain games like Twilight Princess. Even stranger is the fact that the motion controls worked.

    • @JMFSpike
      @JMFSpike 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Gamingcomicsanimation It wasn't a stupid comment, it just slipped your mind that you can also use those other controllers.
      Yeah, those motion controls were awful most of the time. They always worked great in Nintendo's own games, but not in too many others. Another problem was many games having motion controls tacked on when it was very unnecessary. De Blob is one example of that. You have to swing the Wii Remote upwards to jump. That is just stupid. Thankfully, they redeemed themselves when they made the sequel by assigning jump to the "A" button.

    • @gamingcomicanimation
      @gamingcomicanimation 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      JMFSpike But now Nintendo is making the most amazing decisions with Wii U and NEW 3DS. Seriously the people who think the Wii U is a joke are just jealous they don't have one. Nintendo's really dishing it out this year with a bevy of fantastic exclusives. The only think Nintendo severely struggles with is naming their hardware. The average person still might think the Wii U is just a controller for Wii and think the NEW 3DS literally means it's a regualr model in NEW condition. Lol Nintendo would be doing so much better if they called Wii U some other name.

    • @JMFSpike
      @JMFSpike 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matt Gamingcomicsanimation Yeah, I completely agree with you. Unless you're really big into FPS's, the Wii U is by *far* the best console of this generation so far. I've had a PS4 for over a year and have only used it about 4 times. There is nothing currently on it that I'm interested in playing. I'm almost certain that it will be great eventually, but right now it's nothing special. On the other hand, the Wii U has a whole bunch of games I'd like to play, probably well over 10 of them. Same story for the 3DS.

      @Donatello97 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zorgo definitely not the Dual Shock 3, those L2 & R2 trigger/push sensitive buttons felt awkward and awful to use.While I like the gamecube controller, it' micro sized d-pad was a complete joke, but I guess it didn't matter considering 99% of GCN game were 3D anyways.My favorite? I absolutely love the Wii U game pad, NES controller, The Wii remote which btw turned side ways turns into an NES controller andddddd probably the original non-dualshock PS1 controller....Never been a fan of the Dualshock's loose slippery feeling cheap sticks. Sony finally got it right by making the DS4's sticks tighter and sturdier that's for sure. Saturn controller was pretty cool too!

    My favorite was the NES Advantage, that made playing long RPG's so nice since you could just set it on your lap and your whole hand was free and made it so you got less cramps and raw fingers / sore fingers etc. The Gamecube controller was great too as so many others are as well. That NES Advantage though helped addict me to gaming so I have to give that my nod.

    One of my favorite controller is my Hori one handed PLaystation controller. It's perfect for turn-based RPGs (Suikoden!). It's the size of one of the Playstation controller's handle, but has all the buttons.

    GameCube controller all day. I remember thinking it looked stupid and silly, then I played resident evil 4 and I was sold. It’s perfect in every way and super comfortable. GameCube isn’t my favorite system but does have my favorite controller

    It's a bit too early to say this, but my favorite controller has to be the DualShock 4 for the PlayStation 4. I've used it with my PC several times from Tomb Raider (2013) to Ys I Chronicles.
    The GameCube controller comes at a close second.

    My favorite game controller is a tie between the Playstation 1 and 2 dual shock and Nintendo Gamecube. Those are such comfortable controllers.

    my favorite controller is the 360 one because the triggers most accurately reproduce the feeling of pulling the trigger on a gun which works best for my favorite shooter games (such as call of duty)

    Love the original DualShock controller every version has been great but the first one has to be my favorite. Weirdly the Switch Pro Controller as well is quite nice reminds me of the GameCube days.

    My favorite controller would be the gamecube controller. It just feels perfect in my hands, the button placement felt great to me, and the triggers felt like they weren't too far back on the controller like I often feel with playstation controllers (granted I didn't play playstation until much later).

    The thing that threw me off the most with the PS1 controller was the X, O, triangle and square buttons and having to know which one's to press for games like Parappa the Rapper where you need to be able to know what is what without looking down at the controller.

    super famicom it's great the buttons are located at the right place and it was rounded out compared to the famicom's so it's more comfortable :) I love it

    the original PSX controller. the one before the dual shock came out . I totally freaked at launch when I saw it. I though it was supposed to be big. The fact it was so tiny got me really interested and I couldnt wait to try it but the line was so long!

    Well first off it would have to be the Game Cube controller, it just has that very nice comfortable feel and it has so many memories from back in 2002, till this day I still hold game cube controllers. Also it grew on us 90's kids that we love using it just to play smash brothers.

    I would make one that had lights for buttons. Like the color green lights up, meaning something, or letting you interact with green things or whatever else.

    I'd have to say the 360 controller. Apparently, Microsoft dumped a lot of money into a team of very high-level ergonomics specialists to design it, and it definitely paid off.

    I always liked the playstation line of controls. In many ways, it seemed to combine the best aspects of the genesis and super nes controllers. The face and triggers of the snes and the large ergonomic boomerang shape of the genesis.

    my favorite controller was actually the one you guys thought was to big. the original Xbox Duke controller! I have very large hands and up until that point it was hard for me to use normal sized controllers. I actually still have the one that came with my Xbox and I had it replicated for use with the 360.

    Super Nintendo is what introduced me to the Directional Pad.
    9:19- Analog Sticks and vibration were new to me a the time. Tekken never supported the use of Analog yet.
    11:37- I like DreamCast, but I wish there Controllers had 6 button face buttons like Genisis 6 button and Saturn Controllers.
    12:18- I also like GameCube, but I wish Nintendo brought back the SELECT button after the N64.
