hmmmmm if i may ask why? Is it the band wagon effect? Honestly i like the main character for the first time since ff9.... The story was pretty solid even without the dlc a tad bit linear for the first 5 hours... But no more linear than ff10....
i agree and that fact that they made 3 GAMES under the final fantasy 13 not name in stead of making them seprate games and i was surprised to see u post in the comments i am a huge fan i think my favrite video from you is your FANBOYS ruining gaming video
I respect Alpha's opinion but I personally think the trilogy is pretty incredible. Each FF goes in a new direction (even direct sequels with regards to game mechanics) which is something I admire considering they could have COD'd the series and made them all the same thing iterated over and over. But as a result I think most people have a FF game they didn't like--for me it's FF2 on the NES which I found particularly tedious and unnecessarily punishing. Keep in mind that most FF games receive a lot of negative criticism. I remember the negative backlash to FF12, calling it an "offline MMO" or that it's not a true FF and other such remarks. So that in itself is nothing new, but having a huge public forum with which to bash a game... well that is relatively new.
I honestly enjoyed it, and I've been a fan since buying VI on the snes. I can definitely see why it gets the hate that it does because of the linearity but at the same time, X was pretty linear as well. I don't know, it had a great combat system, that definitely helped it along for me. I'm not really defending it, I just don't think it's such a terrible game.
Porco-Dio FIlm Alpha and myself don't like the 13 Series, but anyone who liked it thats great! everyone is entitled to their opinion and thats valid! My stance is I wish I liked it more! :)
I personally really liked Unlimited Saga. I found it to be a refreshing throwback to older style video games and it felt like a table top RPG to me. Real cool nostalgia with that game.
Yes, I absolutely agree with you. Unlimited Saga was the worst RPG I ever played. I saw in the $10 and below bin at Gamestop. I saw it, it was $3, an RPG, and a Square Enix game, so I thought "how bad could it be?" I regretted ever doing that. The clerk at the register recommended me not to play that game because it was so bad. I decided to buy it anyway. Less than five minutes after playing it, I took it out because it was so bad. I took it back the very next day. A word of advice, if a clerk at a store tells you not to buy a game because it sucks, you better listen to them and pick something else.
Dude ! I can't believe you included M&M 2 in this ! I'm honestly shocked. That was hands down one of the greatest, most deep and engaging rpgs on the Genesis, in my opinion and experience at least. The world was HUGE. I sunk hours upon hours into that title. Though I will say it has quite a vast difficulty curve. And on the battles taking a long time, they really don't once you figure things out. A single spell could of taken down all 240+ of those Orcs in one fell swoop. That's just how the game is.
I hope we see more of these in the near future. Absolutely hysterical. And hey, we already have a decent idea of the 'good' games. Let's hear more about some of these turds! LOL! Great stuff, gentlemen.
I like your story about might and magic, about how it basically sucked but you still put 100s of hours into because you bought it and wanted to finish it. Thats how it was as a kid if you got a new game you played it whether it was good or bad, because that was all you had. You couldn't say this sucks and go buy another one, most parents probably bought a kid a new game probably twice a year or so. So getting a new game was a big deal. My worst experiance with buying a new game was "Rocko's Modern Life" for the SNES. I loved the cartoon so I had to get the game. It was awful just awful I can remember many bouts of screaming and many controllers thrown because of that game. But I would still play it for some reason lol, sitting there frustrated as shit screaming at the TV. Lol cause even though it sucked when your a kid and you have a game, it's either the game or no game so you just push through the pain lol
The worst part about Unlimited Saga is that it made tons and tons of people avoid the next entree in the series Romancing Saga, which is one of the most delightful, interesting, flexible, non-linear RPGs of that generation or any other released by SquareEnix. And that music!
That really was the worst part. Minstrel's Song was an excellent remake of Romancing 1 and damn if its new version for the final battle against Saruin wasn't potentially better than the original tune on the SuFami. Real damn shame because I would have loved for that to continue as series with remakes of Romancing 2 and 3.
I bought Unlimited Saga back then because it said Sqaure Enix on it. I gave it a real chance despite it been very cheap looking and I had no idea what i was doing and it was hard as hell.
I rented it once. I had no fucking idea whether I was playing an RPG, a visual novel or a grotesque Kafkian mutation of a game that somehow got released as a finished product.
Never played the first two Might and Magics, they are both extremely old computer games much older than the Sega Genesis. But Might and Magic 3-8 are classics, they are extremely good.
Love these videos. Makes me want to play old games all day. I've only played Unlimited Saga from those but it was terrible I think I only got about 20 mins in before quitting.
I've been giving Unlimited Saga a try over the last month and it's pretty good. Great soundtrack. It's a very confusing game at first, but once you get the mechanics, it's just like any other rpg. New players need to make sure to research a lot though, especially crafting and character building. Overall throughout the game, you're basically collecting materials to craft better weapons and accessories. You also collect money to buy armor and materials from shops. The shops have a very limited supply of items that are randomized and restocked after every story and sidequest event. When using a weapon in battle, you lose a bit of durability. You need to visit a blacksmith to patch them up, using some of the materials you've collected. Magic is infused into accessories or weapons, and casting a spell removes durability similarly to using a weapon skill. You also have hand to hand combat which does ok dmg and doesn't use up durability. Your HP is your stamina, while LP is your actual life bar. High HP helps you resist LP dmg. Equipment can help your resist both types. The battle encounter rate is pretty good. In some dungeons it can be very high at first, but the monsters are actually present on the map, and on most maps they don't replenish, which means. But some of the dungeon designs are pretty brutal. The difficulty is pretty average, although some of the battles at the end can be extremely hard, and requires you to grind a lot. You will get a chance to improve every character after every quest, and this combined with obtaining or crafting better equipment is what makes you stronger. Magic is confusing to learn and it can be a bit grindy to build a mage, but magic is not super important beyond the basic healing spell. Overall the game follows more of a traditional DnD style. You will need a thief character who can deal with traps and locks. You can customize every character how you want, but they all have different talents.
You guys should do a video of BAD games you LOVE (or LIKE lol) games you know aren't 'very good',but you enjoyed anyways. Drakengard for the PS2 is one for myself lol
Sonic Adventure 2, shadow the hedgehog, sonic 06, sonic unleashed, Zelda 2, Mario the lost levels, dr robotniks mean bean machine, ace combat assault horizon, need for speed the run, etc
I played Might & Magic on Famicom. I actually enjoyed it (and your Genesis version looks pretty different from what I played) but it turned out to be one of (if not only) a few RPG that I went all out but still couldn't beat it. Man that game was hard. I drew maps of all the field areas on my notebook but there were so many dungeons as well and I didn't know where to explore and the battle and the traps were pretty punishing.... I finally gave up at some point. When you guys did the bucket list episode, the first thing came to my mind was Might & Magic. I still have bitter feeling about not being able to beat it. But all in all that's also a precious memory of mine :-)
Just outta curiosity, if you've played it, what did you think of Warriors of Might and Magic? For some reason, I loved it when I was younger and I don't know if it was my young age that made me like it or if it really was a good game.
castlevania 2, Sonic and the sacred rings (or is it secret), and any Call Of Duty that was after Modern warfare 1 because it each felt like an expansion pack than something more innovated
Wow, that's irony for you. I'm playing this video on the side while I level up in Might and Magic II... I can understand where it wouldn't translate well on the console market. My entire desk is covered in graph paper just to know where I am. Love the video though!
I love this video because you guys were clearly vexed by all of these games and it's fun to see your personal stories good or bad. I have personally felt the stung of Unlimited Saga. However, I actually did finish that game with one character before giving up on it--usually with Saga games I play through multiple times but I just couldn't stomach that one.
To my knowledge Blaster Master 2 isn't made by the same 'Sunsoft' we knew and loved for a lot of their 8 bit classics, I'm pretty sure they fished the development out to some western company, and the results were as you would expect.
I'm playing might and magic 3 on the turbografx cd atm and I remembered you talking about it in this video somehow and came back to watch it, for anyone reading this the turbografx cd version is actually pretty good
I still loved that cursed Double dungeon copy. Banished from the right to be even a part of that wonderful collection Johnny has and instead is forever punished to hold games of greater value to it. It is the Atlas of your collection.
I so remember how hard M+M on genesis was. Recall there was that one enemy if you got lucky with a death spell on would give level you up 10's of levels. If the spell didn't work you were instant toast.
Wizardry is like Might And Magic but a pure dungeon crawler. Highly recommend the SNES Japanese versions. If you like to grind that is hehe. It's still popular in Japan today.
I actually kind of liked Sword of Mana, can't blame the hate for false advertising though. I also kind of grew on Unlimited Saga as well, but it was nothing compared to the first entries to PS1, had an insane learning curve with basically no instructions teaching you how to play. I think the culture shock was too unsettling and a turn off for most people, even those were open minded and enjoyed Saga Frontier 1/2 for the PS1, but if you put in the time to learn how to play, it was basically was a visual novel + complicated board game simulator put into one.
I never knew that about Sword of Mana. All I knew was that it was supposed to be a remake of Final Fantasy Adventure on the original Game Boy, which was the first game of the "Mana" series I believe.
Total Recall -Nes Spiderman & the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge -Snes Xenophobe -Nes Snake's Revenge: Metal Gear 2 -Nes Final Fight -Snes Final Fight 2 -Snes Bart vs. The Space Mutants -Nes
I love this video, and the fact that all the hate is in such good humour. :D Makes a fantastic change when there are so many angry game reviewers out there- some do it magnificently, of course! But it's nice to be lighthearted too. :)
Hi, guys! Good vid. When you talked about Might & Magic and "not getting it" it reminded of my most hated NES game, "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure." I got it for my birthday when I was a kid and never made any headway with it. If you get the chance, I would love to see a review and see if you feel the same way.
I understand the gripe you have with Sword of Mana cause that would be so disappointing, however I never got to play Secret of Mana because my friends never told me so when I played Sword of Mana and it wasn't turn based and I controlled the characters attacks. That was the game I always looked for but never found something like it until then . So I did enjoy it. But it's not amazing
Games you love, games you hate, that's cool and all but what I'm really interested in is what are some of your other hobbies outside of gaming and collecting?
A friend of mine let me borrow Unlimited Saga, telling me how awesome it was. I took it back to him the next day, slapped him in the face and told him that i was never gonna take game recommendations from him again cause i hated this game so much. It actually put me in a bad mood for like a week i swear.
+Eric Payne Thats how I feel about the broken combat in Skies of Arcadia, has more flaws than actual good things and people on the internet seems to completely ignore those flaws in favor of graphics and the less edgy themes. I wanted to really like it but that is more than I can take. I can take a hard RPG if there is a learning curve like the SaGa games, but I can't say the same about Skies of Arcadia's take on AoE attacks with no ability to control it and forcing repetitive strategies. And there's so much more that triggers me as well.
My friends and I played Might & Magic for a ridiculously long time. I always remember getting to a dungeon near the end that had a ridiculous amount of the most powerful monsters. I want to say they were dragons. I don't think we ever beat the very last boss dragon either.
Games I hate: - Kingdom Hearts trilogy - Yu Gi Oh! (Series) - Fortnite - GTA (whole series) - newer Need for speed games - Katamari Dumasy - Shaq Fu - Batman Forever (love the movie, not the game) + more
Dear lord, Johnny, you had some serious tenacity to keep playing those horrible games back in the day. First Double Dungeon and now Might and Magic. I couldn't play that crap for an hour. lol
I have the exact same feelings about Might and Magic on the Genesis. That game was incomprehensible. I got it around the same time as AD&D Warriors of the Eternal Sun, and neither of them made me really happy, but at least I could understand D&D. Just seeing footage of the overworld makes me angry because of how frustrating it was to navigate. And fighting groups of hundreds of enemies was overkill, a trend that would carry on through the series, miserably. (Same with Blaster Master 2. Having never played the first one, I got the 2nd for my birthday so it was my introduction to the series and it made me NEVER want to play the first which I finally would years later, realizing how good it was.)
John: “I hated Might and Magic!”
Also John: “I put a few hundred hours into it.”
"+240 orcs" made me laugh so hard...xD
Final Fantasy 13 is high on my list of games I can't stand. an entire console gen dedicated to that blunder of an entry into the series :\
hmmmmm if i may ask why? Is it the band wagon effect? Honestly i like the main character for the first time since ff9.... The story was pretty solid even without the dlc a tad bit linear for the first 5 hours... But no more linear than ff10....

This is how to run a TH-cam channel. Lots of positivity and reminiscing with the occasional hate episode. Great job guys
I love you guys, I love your stories, I LOVE THIS SHOW! :D
Thank you! :D
We do have fun making it!
HappyConsoleGamer yay! Senpai noticed me! Lol
10 minutes into Might and Magic, I ripped it out of my Genesis and replayed Phantasy Star II.
The structural integrity of that shelf stresses the shit out of me.
baseballrunner76 Don't worry, Double Dungeons will hold it all together.
Nice pun
"Explore the world" from Rob gets me every time haha
I personally really liked Unlimited Saga. I found it to be a refreshing throwback to older style video games and it felt like a table top RPG to me. Real cool nostalgia with that game.
I hate Final Fantasy XIII and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. Both set back their respective series several years.
That was a fantastic episode, more games you hate would be great.
kanedasrifle Nice profile pic, that is a great album.

michael hall i think you just suck at rpgs
Nah it's just shit like a any numbered FF sequels.. Final Fantasy X-2 etc...
michael hall It is like Crimson Shroud
Filipe Vieira isn't that game good though?
Niall Reid I do like Crimson Shroud.
Dude ! I can't believe you included M&M 2 in this !
I'm honestly shocked.

For me, the worst time that happened I got Top Gun for the C64. What a stupid game!
Haha yup yup that's all true!
haha true, for me it was Rising Zan: Samurai Gunman for the PSX... but looking back, i think its actually an excellent game for its time
Got stuck with Cliffhanger for SNES for a while. Good times 🤢
Gotta love attention to detail. Dynamite Dux music on the background, the amazing still image with you both freaking out, and of course, the ending!!
Laughing from start to finish!

Great video. Even though you hate those games you still managed to do it in a fun non ranting way. I really liked it.
“+240 Orcs” never fails to just kill me lmaooo
You guys are so relatable. I'm surprised there are so few channels as good and close to home as yours.
I like that these aren't just games of low quality, but games that felt like betrayals.
this was a great episode! so much fun listening to your guys stories. I remember this happening to me alot with games back in the day.
No Robman! Don't beat up buffaloes they will take a diarrhea dump in your ear!
It'd be crazy awesome if they got in touch with some of the famous HCG characters like Andrew and appeared on the show as a guest XD
Conan on the NES. Been trying to get to the 2nd level, at least once a year, since 1991.
Any progress?
I bought Unlimited Saga back then because it said Sqaure Enix on it. I gave it a real chance despite it been very cheap looking and I had no idea what i was doing and it was hard as hell.

This was hilarious. I hope you guys do more of these.
duuuude, that unlimited saga one... I have pretty much the same story, but i bought it! oh, the memories of disappointment...
lol the way your presenting your list makes it entertaining. And Funny.
Loved the video guys, hope there are more of these coming up in the future.
Love these videos. Makes me want to play old games all day. I've only played Unlimited Saga from those but it was terrible I think I only got about 20 mins in before quitting.
That was a hilarious. Might and Magic story had me on the floor!
4:55 Ha ha, the whole game is like navigating a DVD menu.
the Lodoss War thing is GENIUS!! Couldn't stop laughing :D
Might and Magic was great, specially part 4 & 5, they would even combine to form one giant world.
I hate whenever I eat a cockroach, I nearly gag and pull out candy from my mouth.
You guys should do a video of BAD games you LOVE (or LIKE lol) games you know aren't 'very good',but you enjoyed anyways. Drakengard for the PS2 is one for myself lol
The fighting was a little too much of same.
And the same goes for the flying on the dragon.
michael ruhl yeah I know and the story was nuts lol but again its a game I enjoyed but I know isn't very good.
Sword of Mana on GBA is a reimagining of Final Fantasy Adventure on original Gameboy.
The original Japanese name was "Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden".
Omg. I became new to this channel back in about april and now I've come to this. You dropped 15 years with the lack of facial hair lol
Sonic Adventure 2, shadow the hedgehog, sonic 06, sonic unleashed, Zelda 2, Mario the lost levels, dr robotniks mean bean machine, ace combat assault horizon, need for speed the run, etc
That Lodoss War part was priceless.
I remember getting Unlimited Saga and hating it, such a shame too 'cause it could have been really good if it was done properly.
I played Might & Magic on Famicom. Love how you got passionately angry about might and magic haha.
6:50 - my favorite rob moment of all time
Just outta curiosity, if you've played it, what did you think of Warriors of Might and Magic? For some reason, I loved it when I was younger and I don't know if it was my young age that made me like it or if it really was a good game.

Love seeing older videos and revisiting
This video was hilarious. All I could think about the whole way threw was Masters of Orion 3.
Awesome ep! Lodoss Wars reference frikin' cracked me up!
I have a question. What's the game below the nomad on the shelf? I'm curious to know.
I think it is the Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga duology for the PS2.
Dash Galaxy in the Alien Asylum on NES. I HATE it!
Literally the first game I thought of. I owned it and played through it. Bad times.
Ha yeah that game is bad in a hilarious way.
Wow, that's irony for you. I'm playing this video on the side while I level up in Might and Magic II... I can understand where it wouldn't translate well on the console market. My entire desk is covered in graph paper just to know where I am. Love the video though!

@around 3:02, Johnny M.: "did we misunderstand this!" hahahaha lol!
Might and Magic "This music still haunts me till this day" lol
I had Unlimited Saga and Might & Magic too. I feel your pain.
On PC that is Might and Magic 2. I love the game. It is choppy when you move because it is only going frame by frame, tile by tile.
lol that lotus war bit almost made me piss myself
True gamers, drinking a six pack over a video game. lol
I thought I liked gaming, but you're in a league of your own.
To my knowledge Blaster Master 2 isn't made by the same 'Sunsoft' we knew and loved for a lot of their 8 bit classics, I'm pretty sure they fished the development out to some western company, and the results were as you would expect.
"I don't believe in videogames anymore" LOL
I'm playing might and magic 3 on the turbografx cd atm and I remembered you talking about it in this video somehow and came back to watch it, for anyone reading this the turbografx cd version is actually pretty good
*This* is how angry video game reviews should be: personal, earnest, and critical without being nitpicky. Thanks for the video!
lol awesome video guys. good times. I remember my disappointment with blaster master 2 as well.
That was funny and fun episode especially the part about Lodoss War.
I think we all have a Blaster Master 2 of are own.
I still loved that cursed Double dungeon copy. Banished from the right to be even a part of that wonderful collection Johnny has and instead is forever punished to hold games of greater value to it. It is the Atlas of your collection.
I think you guys get more animated with games you hate. Another episode like this please
11:20-11:25 I got in trouble for drink flying out of mouth. Thanks for sharing though!
I so remember how hard M+M on genesis was. Recall there was that one enemy if you got lucky with a death spell on would give level you up 10's of levels. If the spell didn't work you were instant toast.

Whats with the ending? lol, great video you guys!

Do you hate all Might and Magic games or just the first one?
Hey Johnny! Have you tried the later Might and Magic games like 6 and 7? They are way better.... And also the Golden Box-series. Fantastic PC-RPGS....
I loved Sword of Mana! That is until I got to the end and realized that YOU CAN"T GO BACK! WTF!? Lol
Blaster Master 2 probably feels different because it was outsourced to a Western developer.
I love this video, and the fact that all the hate is in such good humour. :D
Makes a fantastic change when there are so many angry game reviewers out there- some do it magnificently, of course! But it's nice to be lighthearted too. :)

I got it for my birthday when I was a kid and never made any headway with it.
All the Katmari games, superman 64 & TLOZ : Majora's mask.
Games you love, games you hate, that's cool and all but what I'm really interested in is what are some of your other hobbies outside of gaming and collecting?
that mana game is exactly what modern advertising is
A friend of mine let me borrow Unlimited Saga, telling me how awesome it was. I took it back to him the next day, slapped him in the face and told him that i was never gonna take game recommendations from him again cause i hated this game so much. It actually put me in a bad mood for like a week i swear.
+AllwaysRight1 I tired so hard to like it, once I got to the map and battle system then I was done. 30 mins in and I was done lol
+Eric Payne
Thats how I feel about the broken combat in Skies of Arcadia, has more flaws than actual good things and people on the internet seems to completely ignore those flaws in favor of graphics and the less edgy themes.
Games I hate:
- Kingdom Hearts trilogy
- Yu Gi Oh! (Series)
- Fortnite
- GTA (whole series)
- newer Need for speed games
- Katamari Dumasy
- Shaq Fu
- Batman Forever (love the movie, not the game)
+ more
Great video! Hope to see you guys at the PRGE in a week and half!
Dear lord, Johnny, you had some serious tenacity to keep playing those horrible games back in the day. First Double Dungeon and now Might and Magic. I couldn't play that crap for an hour. lol
Still love this video, that time the happy console gamers weren’t so happy. 😂
Were you familiar with the SaGa series before playing Unlimited?
