    BGs are tanks. We fish round reels for big blue cats around Jordan Point. Took the 4000 a few time to see how it would fare...Not really what it was designed for, 6-8 oz lead w/fish approaching triple digits having a 90 degree pull in medium current. It holds up just fine. I've seen okumas bind up with big fish at the boat due to the flex of the frame. The BG's aluminum frame and gear train simply dont budge.

      Oh absolutely! I have a few of the avenger series and had em fail on cownose and a catfish. Lol, they dont like being used much as a gotcha plug reel either! Plastic arm :/ Been looking around for a 1500 or 2000 to get..might have to go BG again lol

    Haven’t bought my first Jetty/Surf fishing rod , but would u say the 4000 or 6500 on hunting for bull reds and 30+ inch drum? And what size rod

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      4000 with 20 or 30 braid is plenty line. As far as the rod, it depends. Sometimes you want or need to reach the fish, so a lot of people use 9 foot or longer.

    Did you ever use any bait feeder reels? I caught lots of monster flatheads and blue cats over 9yrs with a okuma avenger bait feeder till the handle broke. I upgraded to the shimano baitfeeder but I liked the okuma better. I think I will try this daiwa reel

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used them for sure! Sonetimes it is like that, the cheaper option might be a tad weaker but more enjoyable :) Last one I used was a Penn. But I havnt used them much lately. I kinda use the same idea of a bait runner/feeder with my conventional. Freespool with clicker, fish hits, enguage, drag ready to go!

    I got a BG4500, son has dropped in the sand idk how many time, very few cons. It’s still silky smooth. I have a Shimano twin power an obv that’s gona be little smoother but the bg is the best bang for buck compared to the sphyeros which is a really reaalky nice reel too.

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  ปีที่แล้ว

      2k would work fine. 2500 and 3k would pair nicely but depends on what size line and all that. Are you throwing jigs..bombing baits..that sort of detail. I’d imagine you’re talking about jigs.

  • @levigreen2154
    @levigreen2154 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a 7.6 medium heavy saint croix, would you recommend the BG 4000 for a medium heavy rod?

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What do you plan on targeting. In general, a 4K may be a bit much for a 7.6 but trust me, I have used it on em! Better to have too much than not enough, but it gets heavy over time. 2.5 or 3k prolly suite that rod better, especially is throwing jigs or lures.

    How are the reels holding up? I just found 2 4500's out in my shed on Ugly Stik Big Water rods. They're brand new, still got that tags on them. They must've been my fathers. They still reeling in fish? Have they been reliable?

    daiwa bg4000 = shimano 8000+ just for a comparison. the drag is very powerful , casts far but mainly for heavy setups. ive used it for 2+ years now not fruitful in shallow waters for jigging good for 80m+ depth this will allow you to jig . shallower waters is overkill.

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Understood! Most shallow water fisheries here would most def not need this much a a reel by any means. Lot of 2/2500 fishing :) i have very little experience with using it vertical jigging as I don’t fish offshore much. But I would imagine it would be a good matchup for certain species and depths. What do you jig for?

  • @BallinKing452
    @BallinKing452 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm in a tossup between the BG and the kastking kapstan. I live in Florida and I do a lot of soft plastics in grass flats and pompano jigs on the beach and lures on the peir under lights for snook. whats your thought?

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven’t personally used the Kapstan but have used Kastking products and they have come a long way. But if they were both in front of me, I’d pick up the BG, but not a 4K size for that type of fishing.

    Hi, can you recommend a rod or good rod size for this reel, lure fishing 10-20 grams, light on the go fishing. Thanks

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For this size reel, pairing with a rod that throws 10 to 20 may be a bit over kill. With this reel, I am generally pairing it with a 9 or 10 foot, throwing lures around 2 to 3 ounces. But it is very versatile :)

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a lot of variables. What are you targeting with what kind of set up? Generally when I am running. 4-5k reel I am using 30 to 50 lb braid.

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on what class of fish you’re fishing for. 4K would pair great with that rod for certain targets. Simple answer, larger fish, yes. Smaller fish, go smaller size reel. They can hold a lot of braid. Are you throwing out bait or lures? Keep in mind the total weight of your set up, especially if you’re casting lures all day.

      @ZackBostick  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Depends on what you are using it for. I personally really like the spinfishers. They are both pretty comparable, but the selling point to me that in itself-the price. But if you have one, no huge reason to switch to the bg. Both are awesome reels!

    I just picked up the Bg4000 and am stumped on which rod I should buy. I just plan on beach fishing. Anyone have any suggestions on a great rod for this reel?

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome purchase! Let me ask you, are you going to be throwing weights and bait or lures at your beach? You can try to get a rod that can do both, but depends on what kind of surf you are fishing. I.E. I have a rod that is rated to 12oz and the water I usually fish needs at least an 8oz to hold bottom, makes for a horrible lure rod. Tica makes a great product that is affordable! Lmk what or how you intend to fish that water and I’ll give ya some suggestions ;)

      @@ZackBostick thanks for the reply! I’m not a huge lure guy, never had any luck with them. I’m in Florida and will be bottom fishing. The weights I’ve been told to use are 2-3 oz.

    • @ZackBostick
      @ZackBostick  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tica would make a great overall purchase! $100-$200 ish. Depending on model. Cheaper route would be Penn. the Prevail and Battalion models are under $100 and can throw that weight no problem!!
