    If you're in the market for a new reel and aren't sure of which one to choose, definitely check out the Daiwa BG MQ inshore spinning reel series.
    Although there are several different sizes of the BG MQ, the weight differences are only slight.
    And deciphering the differences in reel sizes can be a little daunting if you are not sure of what to look for.
    So in this video, you'll see how the 2500, 3000, and 4000 Daiwa BG MQ reels compare, and the one big advantage to going up in size with this series of spinning reels.
    Have any questions about these reel sizes and which one is right for you?

    Been fishing my BG MQ 2500 (which I bought from Salt Strong) pretty regularly since I got it several weeks ago. Spooled it with #10 braid . Using it for back bay fishing here in NJ and have caught striped bass, bluefish & fluke (summer flounder). Love the reel.

    Have enjoyed mine immensely the past three weeks paired with a Diawas rod. Right after buying the 3000 on Salt Strong, I also bought the Diawas Certate LT 4000 for my new Black Pelican Weapon custom rod. The smooth, strong drag and the pure winching power are certainly special on each real compared to other brands I’ve used.

      Hey how do they stack up with each other? Both have 12kg drag, or close to on the bg mq right? But is the bg smooth under heavy drag load like the certate? Cheers. I can't afford a certate so looking at the bg mq 4000

    • @seanshimmel8587
      @seanshimmel8587 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NewZealandOceanArt they are each incredibly smooth with similar drag power on equivalent sizes. I fish both reels daily and either one is fantastic, with the understanding that the Certate is specced higher (bearings, Mag Seal, etc).

    I just bought a 4000 which has the same drag, and I am considering using it for striper in New England, but I don't know what max size fish it can handle. I already have a penn slammer 6500 HS and a 4500 Daiwa bg, but the Penn is on the bigger side for the cape cod canal and in my opinion not needed. I can do the job with less but I don't know if the 4000 bg mq is too little.

    I have the original daiwa Bg in 2500, 3000 and 4000. The 4 is just to big for me unless your surf fishing. The 2500 is amazing and can be used on lighter setups but the 3000 is all around the best. Curious the size comparison between the Bg and bgmq

      MQ is sealed. Last longer than Penn. Igor an old Bg5000 is 45 years old. Due to being heavy and built like a tank, I rarely used it but bought a BG4500 twin stopper. I also got a metal body Ryobi Applause and Vertigo ( the most copied reel ) is 35 and 40 year old. grease irregularly but worked fine. The old reels built stronger but newer ones is smoother . Never goes wrong with a BLACK GOLD ! Old ones have Banax copied !

    I fish a lot of small shallow drains and back lakes. I am usually using a 6.5 rod. Only in open water do I need the cast distance that a 7.5 rod gives. What would be the best reel for mostly fishing artificial baits for me?

    • @jackdickerson2031
      @jackdickerson2031 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Between $100 - $150 on a reel and $150 -$200 on a rod

    • @jackdickerson2031
      @jackdickerson2031 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I put more emphasis into the rod now. The reel is just a winch to get the fish in. I just do not like cheap reels that last maybe a year or less even with good care.

      St Croix Premier, medium, fast action, 6’6” with regular Daiwa BG in 2500 or 3000. I also really like the Duckett reels, they are “bass reels” but at ~$90 for the entry level ones i think they are as nice if not nicer then the BGs. Much nicer then Penns in that price range.

    • @nicolaskvasnovsky
      @nicolaskvasnovsky 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fuego for sure since your fishing lures so light and works great drag etc. Reels selection depends on scenarios of fishing. I wouldn’t give that answer if you said I like to fish off of jetty’s or wade/surf fish. I think the fuego gives the best bang for buck.

    • @nicolaskvasnovsky
      @nicolaskvasnovsky 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The flex you’re speaking of I have not seen myself to the extreme that I would not choose this reel for fishing freshwater and most inshore salt applications. Also not talking about big tarpon, tuna, pelagics etc …Anyways to each their own again I wouldn’t go out and get a fuego lt if I decided I was bait fishing or chunking for monsters I would use a different reel.I will say I have only had a 3000 fuego lt since March. I fish the Chesapeake bay. I have caught striped bass we call them rockfish up to 40 inches pre spawn albeit just a couple fish over 30 inches but probably 400 schoolies in total, a cow nose ray that was decent size, and snakehead up to 7 pounds plus other fish. Cownose rays and big 15 pound bass are drag screamers. I fish from shore with a 7 foot medium heavy rod. The drag is great I have fished with a lot of different reels. I mostly fish lures right now not that I am against bait and will probably fish some bait in the near future. All the fish caught were on 15-20 pound power pro to either a mono or Fluro 15 pound leader of 2-3 feet using the improved Albright knot or Alberto knot. On all the big fish I have had to lock down the drag since I fish from shore especially on the cownose that had peeled off 70 yards of line. So if we’re taking largemouth bass fishing or smallmouth bass on a budget reel fishing lures I am 100 percent confident the fuego lt will do the job.

    Love the reel, the smoothness but like WTF... the 8000 is the same size as my penn battle 3 5000. Took the reel on a 1 day boat trip and ran out of line rock fishing where you need to hit 50 fathoms or more.... nothing like the BG 8000. A little bummed that they nurtured it.

    Question: Which Reel by Daiwa (not necessarily these models of the BGMQ) should I buy? I was looking at the new Saltist MQ line. I plan on targeting fish like Mahi, Flounder, Spanish Mackerel, and some of the bottom species like Snapper. Not doing sail fishing or big Tuna, maybe black fin or skip jack, though.
