    Who makes the smoothest spinning reel? Right now after using and testing pretty much every single $200 spinning reel on the market. The Daiwa Back Bay series stands out above the others.
    It takes the Daiwa BG's rock solid platform. Adds a few light rubber seals at the handle and main shaft. And adds a ferrofluid'ic seal in the form of their Mag Seal at the anti reverse clutch. That does a great job of protecting both the clutch and the sensitive pinion bearing. (If you have a spinner that sounds raspy under no load. Generally it's that pinion bearing that is the cause.

    Thanks for this video. I purchased one of these two weeks ago and very happy with it. I was wanting the Stradic FL but can't find any in my area.. But after watching your tear downs on this reel, I went with this. I've crushed three big Redfish on it already and handled it like a champion. Buttery smooth. I kayak the inshores of Florida and I wanted something that could handle the saltwater abuse. Your videos helped me with the decision. Very happy with the purchase. Thank you!

    Thks for sharing, its a lot of work to take them apart and explaining the parts and whats good and bad...appreciate your work..I have field tested close to 100 reels in Hawaii..of all the manufacturers that the reels I have field tested(ss1300, ss1600, ss2400, bg 3k, 3.5k, 4k, fuego, ballistic, saltist(after 9 hrs they replaced the pinion and main gear), 6k mq, DAIWA is the only manufacturer that will repair the reel during warranty, they will not replace the reel. Worst was the 4k..sent it 5x before they replaced it..went thru 10 bearings, pinion and main gear...On the 5th repair I asked for a new one, they did, brand new box, brand new reel but my same spool.???.

    it seems like this reel is exactly the same as the Saltist Nero, the only difference (and it's a big one) is the aluminium machined main gear in this one compared to a zink casted in the nero. same body, same rotor, same spool and same number of bearing including the mag sealed main bearing.
    thank you for the excellent overview!

    After watching your videos on the Back Bay, I decided to give one a shot. It’s definitely one of the smoothest spinning reels, even at twice the money, in my opinion. It also has decent power/torque for this size of reel. The size nomenclature reminds me of women’s clothes, it’s a mental thing. The 4K is about the same as a Penn Conflict II 3k (which I also have). I really think the drag is undersized as well. On a 4K reel, many people are thinking big reds, snook, Jacks. They can peel some line! If you are near structure, or could hook something at the end of a long cast, I’d suggest another reel be used. If you’re tossing a lure 35-50 yards, mainly in open water, this is your baby. Just my opinion,

    Scoob thanks for another awesome video. Us reel nerds never get enough. (Bad when you get to the point of enjoying tearing one down almost as much as using it)Great to see another quality affordable reel on the market. With the BG, Spinfisher vi, and this reel coming out in the last couple of years, do you think Shimano is paying attention? I know they have the Spheros SW, but nothing smaller than the 5000. Looks to me like they are missing the boat. BTW, any reel with the hex handle automatically disqualifies itself as a quality reel in my book. I do own a few, but to me it’s like putting a sign out that says “cheapskate” reel. JMO.
    Keep the videos coming!

      I mostly fish freshwater here in Canada-- , walleyes, freshwater drums, cats, northern pike, carp -- hence a different set-up. For really light applications, nearly UL, a Fenwick HMG 4-8 line test rod, paired with a Shimano Vanquish 2000 HGS, 5 lb test PowerPro. The other two set-ups are quite identical both of them are 7"6 of L/ML power, XtraFast actions -- a G Loomis E6X Walleye Universal with a Daiwa BG 2000, and a St Croix Legend Tournament with a Daiwa Fuego LT 2500 XH. Both of them are spooled with 10 lb braids.
      I dream of going really UL , that Daiwa Presso 9 footer which you have, which can be used for serious UL applications. Is it a good rod, I should ask -- then maybe, someday! :)

    I need some help with my back bay. Just got it and took a peak inside to see the digigear, and when I got done putting it back together, i found a small washer that must have been stuck to a screw. It wasn't the 3 longer screws for the body, but had to have come from either the screw shown at 9:12 or the screw that goes on the bottom plate. The washer is just a tad bigger than either screw. Maybe it don't go on either of those, but that was all I took apart. Those 5 screws and opened up the cover and then put it back together. Looking at the schematic that came with it, doesn't show a washer, but it had to come from one of them.

    This video is from 2019, near 2 years but the reel is still one you see all the time.
    I just wanted to say that I have my front acreage marked off at 20, 30, 40, 50 and 100 yards. People tend to overestimate their ability to be able to cast long distances. 50 plus a few seems to be about the average. No one that has used my markers ever has hit the 100 yard marker. My point is the 180 or 200 yards of J-Brade is just fine unless you hook up Moby Runner.
    Just an observation I thought I would mention. The reason for the markers was for my archery practice. The 100 yards was just for a goof!

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the caster and the payload. I can cast 200 yards. In fact the shimano tiralejo rods. When I was testing the prototype and helping with the guide spacing. I lobbed a 3oz tady 140 yards (measured) and that was an effortless lob. I wanted to see if i could hit 175+ and proceeded to blow the first three guides off the rod.. (it was 95 degrees and the tape adhesive melted lol)

Daiwa has always been different back in the 90s my first go with fw daiwa spinners were the emblem z and TDz TDs and the 2500 sizes were about this same weight with big capacities. And that's changed here and there over the years. But yeah...no clue buddy. In the past vids with mag sealed reels I've generally left in the mag seal reassembly. Might as well...Usually I tell myself i'll leave it out because Ive done it enough...but then I think...what if it's someone's first times seeing one of my vids so I just keep the camera on :) Tight lines brotha!!

      @TackleAdvisors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The first two reels you mentioned are significantly lighter. If you want a feather light setup the composite framed reels you mentioned are the best bet for the price. The back bays get a bump in refined feel due to the weight of aluminum dampening some of internals. For general duty freshwater spinning. I prefer light weight. And would lean towards the first 2 you mentioned. With the new stradic FL being where I'd look in the 7 ounce range over the back bay

    I’m looking for something in the 1500 to 2500 size reels for some freshwater apps. Is that close?
    I’d also like to ask if there is some kind of blackout on Zebco Quantum products. It’s difficult to get information on the smoke series regular v inshore And the boca series.
    I knew people that landed giant stripers and massive Drum with Boca series reels. The pizza shop (it’s gone now) on rt 27 over in somerset Lorenzo’s, he was cool, the wall in the pizzeria had pictures of him with massive stripers.
    And my stainless steel screws seem to be do able. Try #6 x 1/2 or 3/4 panhead screws for neko weights. Pretty cool and cheap and won’t rust out the tackle bag.

And this reel competes directly with the stradic fk. Both are great. BOth proven. But man this reel just feels soooo good. Even the Sustain didn't really impress me. Which i was really looking forward to. I've always been a huge shimano and daiwa fan. Mainly daiwa baitcasters and shimano spinners. Purchased a new stick recently. Plan to use it all over. Back, front, rocks, beach, pier. I usually default to stradic FKs. I like what I'm seeing (and hearing) with the saltist back bay. Can you give me your opinion? Saltist back bay 4000 or stradic fk 4000. I've got a 9'6 black hole Suzuki...3/4 - 3. I'll be throwing primarily soft plastics and small swimmers (sp, yo-zuri, green points...etc). Would just like to hear which way you would go. Or if you have a "perfect" pairing in mind, I'm all eyes. Thanks!

      I thow those exact baits with a black hole cape cod nano and a 9'6 tiralejo and orded guides for the 9 '2 black hole cape code striper nano (lighter version of the 9'6). If it were me. I'd go ballistic lt.. I like the 6k enough to have 2. I use it on rods down to 7 feet (custom glass lami) up to an 11 tournament ballistic surf). Hey I love your videos and I got a diawa bg2500, so I took it apart cleaned it and regreased it, and it starting making that weird noise during isolation and under load it felt unsmooth. Just 2 days ago I took it apart to fix it and I sprayed wd40 on the spool shaft and I think it kinda went away. What are your thoughts I'm just asking because i saw you have the same problem in the video and fixed it easily.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One thing to keep in mind. WD40 is a solvent used best for de greasing. SO don't expect it to be a long term fix if it indeed was the "fix" Make sure you don't have the rotor nut too tight as it may cause binding. It shouldn't but ya never now. Make sure all the shims are where they need to be as well. It's sorta tough to diagnose without having the reel in front of me. Especially some daiwa reels that use the clip to hold the main gear in place.

    • @miguelplascencia6093
      @miguelplascencia6093 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TackleAdvisors yeah maybe the spool shaft had to much grease and that's why it didn't feel smooth, I remember seeing it and it was full of grease, and maybe the wd40 got rid of all the extra grease. I was also messing around with the reel and when you shake it makes like a clunk sound I was thinking of putting extra shims on the main gear where it makes contact with side plate and gets connected to handle. Have you ever had to do this to a reel and do you recommend it? Edit or maybe when I took it apart to put wd40 and but I back together I didn't overthighten the screws hahah

    Does the sealing in the tatula compare at all to the stradic? I like that reel, this one, and the ballistic but the mag seals kind of scare me. I fish off a kayak mainly in saltwater so sealing is important but I don't want to be sending off reels to daiwa to fix a busted mag seal every couple months.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Tatula doesn't offer any form of sealing. The stradic is sealed like the ballistic but ballistic is sealed with mag seal at the clutch where as the stradic uses a hydrophobic coating. Both great reels.

    • @patrickspehnkouch2345
      @patrickspehnkouch2345 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TackleAdvisors Thank you! Do you think $100 price difference between something like a stradic and a BG is justified? I feel like with the ballistic, you get more for your money in terms of lightness, gearing, sealing, etc, whereas the stradic might just be slightly lighter with slightly better gearing than a BG. I mainly base my fears of the magseal on Alan Hawk, do you think he's exaggerating about them a bit?

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem with magseal is real. As nobody knows what type they use. So you can't source it and they don't sell it. For reels like the ballistics where it's only at the ar clutch. You can use the cheap stuff and replace it as it dries out 6 months give or take so it's no biggy. But the high end reels that use it in the bearings. That's a chore /pain in the ass. For the salt I think the best reels are the bg tsunami shield spinfisher back bay lt stradic ballistic lt and slammer spheros gosa (according to my usage)
