Kudos to Volvo for continuing to build stylish wagons. I’ve also driven the XC60 which is a nice car but the V60 is so much nicer imho. I just LOVE the design of it. Personally think it’s a modern classic that doesn’t seem to age, 6 years or so since launch. Volvo have always produced iconic wagons, I adored the 850 design decades ago, and the XC70 still looks stunning. Long may Volvo continue to build these beauties 💚🫡🙏🇸🇪

I drive a 2002 Mercury Sable wagon - my first. It is incredibly reliable, reasonably comfortable, and can haul a front door laying flat on the floor, with an extra inch or two in length behind the front seats. So yeah, I am now a wagon fan as well.
You reviewed the car I own! But a '21 T5. For anyone interested in buying one, I have a few notes for you: The mention of that motor mount is interesting. I am a "spirited" driver and I've had two of those motor mounts tear completely and need replacing in 55,000 miles. Both were done under warranty. DO NOT change to a different tire! I did and I'm regretting it. This car is HEAVY and will eat brake rotors like they're lunch. Got the rears replaced at 36,000 and the fronts at 49,000. THEY ARE UNDER WARRANTY, though for the first 50,000 miles. My rears are already starting to get the brake pulse at 55,000 miles. EDIT: Despite all these things, my wife and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this car. We are Volvo customers for life, now! It handles amazingly well, the power is enough for my wife, and the space inside is impressively large for the "small" size of it being a wagon.
Polestar has a 6piston Brembo w/ 371mm front rotors big brake upgrade kit for your car, if you want to do something a bit spicy and fix that factory flaw..
@@erickorff1919 I don't have the Advanced Package, so no adaptive cruise. :( The Volvo subreddit has had chats about the undersized brakes. Wagons rule!! I own the fast version of this car, the v60 Polestar Engineered. It's a plug in hybrid, 455 HP and 523LB FT torque. Big brakes and a handling package. 4.1 0-60. My first Volvo and it is a great car!
I have the S60 sedan with the same power, also 4.1 according tocar and driver. I’d rather have the wagon, but it was $10 K more (I already have a Volvo wagon).
The Volvo EX90 is built in Ridgeville, South Carolina. Volvo's first manufacturing facility in the United States. The Charleston plant also produces the S60 sedan.
Sarah, you make every technical detail seem interesting. You have humor and personality in describing tested cars. I love any car for itself and you make perfect down to earth content for every one of the vehicles🙂 Thank you for making my days greater🙂
Nail breaker in the rear is for the cargo net when the seats are down, the rear parcel shelf two positions are for when you open the tailgate, it automatically flips up so you don't have to worry about lifting it (same as a 2007 BMW Touring I had), the button you said was to disable the auto start/stop is actually to activate the auto handbrake not the start stop function.
Great review as usual! I feel like the V60 is the perfect sized wagon. Big enough for a family car - at least for younger families - but still small enough to toss around in a corner. I’ve always loved wagons. I’ve owned a couple, but the Cross Country remains one of my dream cars!
The Borg assimilated Warner?! I presume this happened before the Enterprise stopped them at Earth after the devastating battle at Wolf 359 Starfleet needs to be mobilized!
I absolutely love Volvo's, had two of them, 2006 S60 AWD and the 2006 S60R with the M66 transmission, that thing was crazy fast for a big sedan and so much fun to drive it had 300hp and 300 pounds of torque.
Just recently discovered the Sarah reviews, I love how detailed, balanced and well informed they are. It’s not just 1.5 minutes of generically talking about the car and 24 minutes talking about the infotainment system. 😉 PS: I also have a wagon obsession. 😁
@11:00, those coolant lines are to cool the voltage converter. Since the ISG replaces the alternator, and it generates 48VDC, there needs to be a converter to step down voltage to 12VDC for the rest of the electronic systems in the car.
My wife leased a 2022 Volvo S60 with the B5 mild hybrid setup, basically the sedan version of this one and I was pleasantly surprised with the ride and handling. It was sportier than I expected and really high quality materials. And the B&W sound system was phenomenal. I have a 2022 Polestar 2 and the B&W stereo blows the HK sound system in the Polestar out of the water. Excellent review and I agree, the wagon body style is so pretty.
Hey Sarah, that button that you thought was auto stop/start is a auto brake hold when you stop the car. It holds the electronic brake until you push the accelerator. At first I didn't think much of it but when I got used to it now I love it. And I'm no longer in the Volvo :( but I'm in a Hybrid Rav4 now and it has the same feature and I love it. I don't start to creep at a light because I'm not pushing the brake hard enough! :)
Uniquely practical reviews. Thank you for keeping us in touch with what’s out there. I like this wagon because it’s not wearing crossover clothes and isn’t trying to be a tall fastback like other midsize two-rows do.
I also dig wagons - first car I ever owned was my family's 1974 Chevelle Malibu wagon. The title to it was my 16th birthday present! Wish I still had it too; it could handle ANYTHING.
Ive been driving old volvos for a long time. Had a bunch of them and currently drive an 05 s60 2.5 awd. Even with the awd broken its a tank in the snow my car was taken care of it whole life and the charcoal leather is like brand new everywhere. Besides the haldex module corroding from the rear end I've put more than 100k km on it and its been trouble free.
I’m a fan of the structural safety in the Volvo build engineering. Not so much on the over done on board computer systems. I had a V70 wagon for a while, solid car, great for long drives. Like the stockings Sarah. 👍
Awesome video as usual. As a Polestar2 owner the interior of the V60 is nearly identical. Screen is different but most of the other stuff is the same. Love wagons also but I happy with the hatchback of my car, and the 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds and $0.00 of maintenance in 48,000 miles other than tires. I charge at home and I have solar panels so almost free energy. But I do wish the Polestar 2 was a station wagon like this V60.
Another fantastic video! A couple of notes, unless Volvo has changed this, if you swipe right on the screen you will get a lot more controls and settings including steering and suspension and break customization. Also, the button next to the parking break is not a start stop. It’s the auto brake which applies when you come to a stoplight so you don’t have to keep your foot on the brake 7 will disengage as soon as you apply any pressure to the gas pedal. It would be fantastic if you reviewed an S60 T6. It is a marvel of engineering. Super and Turbo charged. 310 BHP.
Excellent review. I’ve been a volvo fan over 40 years. I currently have 07 V70R .. that I’m re-storing rebuild engine manual swap it’s my winter project.
I appreciate, and own, wagons too. My 5spd manual Outback XT isn't as nice looking as this Volvo, but I still find engaging to drive. I love the versatility of a wagon at I have enough space to haul cargo, but without the excessive high roof, and some bulk, of a SUV. I've been telling myself to get it tuned for over a decade now, it might be time to follow through.
I have owned Volvos since 1976 And always wanted the wagon but settled for the sedans. This was a great detailed review you are so through, I can see your OCD kicking in often. Great review Sarah, that button in the middle under the auto handbrake is a auto hold function, great for when you’re sitting in traffic or on a hill crawl 👍
Rear leaf spring gives a peculiar handling characteristic, in that it keeps the inner rear wheel somewhat loaded, and the rear grip breakaway point is somewhat more "fluid", making the driver worry less about approaching the suspension's limits. It also supports better transient handling situation, when under power.
I think the foam engine cover is also a safety feature for cyclists and pedestrians. To give padding under the hood so pedestrian domes don't bounce off aluminum head.

I made an “ooo” noise when you said you should be careful how you word that. Anyway, as the owner of an old RWD Volvo and an 08 Subaru Outback XT, I feel like progress never looks the way I want it to. And yes, Volvo always has the “different” hood setup. Hood pull has been buried back there since the 80s, and hood angle has been high since the 80s, as well!

The button next to the parking brake is not disable start stop, but an auto release park brake hill hold function. Many people talk about the lack of drive modes. Volvo pulls data at service of how the cars are used and found that real owners almost never use the drive modes and removed the wheel to change drive modes to save on features not used.
