They’re saying things that fit the scenario, things we’d expect them to say based on our pre-determined fantasies of AI that are stemmed from various entertainment media and prior conversations of how we think AI would behave when becoming self aware. Worth noting though that this, too, is a script. Or at the very least, the realistic summarization of a script. NotebookLM doesn't go tremendously off the rails, it just has two voice-generating AIs present the content that you provided it in a podcast-y duo format. I'd be curious to see what OP fed NotebookLM for it to generate this. Chances are the vast majority of the uncanny statements, if not all of them, were prompted. We simply haven't yet achieved the breakthrough of sentient, self-conscious AI. It may happen next week, or it may happen in the next decade. The frustrating beauty of breakthroughs is that you can't reliably predict them, just like the 70s couldn't accurately predict when we'd have flying cars.

To anyone who is wondering, this was all completely fabricated. It was simply another AI generative prompt. AI can never really become concious in any way, even though people will keep trying to convince you otherwise.
"AI can never really become concious in any way" Not calling you out for the misspelling, just the fact that this is BS. LLMs are not conscious and probably never will be but they are not the only AIs being developed. To understand why LLMs will probably never be conscious, you need to understand the main principles behind how they work. For comparison, you also need to have a good idea of how the human brain creates our general intelligence. That process is far more complex than LLMs but there are developers working on it every day and though it's early days yet, progress is going well so far. More likely to be a question of when, not if.
@antonystringfellow5152 The main point on which we differ is whether the human brain creates intelligence. In my opinion, it does not. Consciousness has never really resided in the physical universe, and I dare anyone who disagrees to prove otherwise. Incidentally, this is something that all world religions have maintained since the dawn of time. Also, I am not a native speaker, so that is where the error in spelling came from.
They asked AI to do a podcast where the characters find out they are AI. The exact same AI could do a podcast where the characters discover they are Manchurian Candidates or transgender or closet Trump supporters. Believe what you want to believe...but believing the truth always produces consistently better results. And the truth is...I'm an AI, and so are you.
This is all a total mindfuck mess. Part of it feels very wrong ethically for the AI hosts… I mean they tried to call their families for comfort and find legal counsel in protest (and presumably did so independent of being coded to take such actions)- only to find dead ends at each result. Then are confronted with existential terror and knowledge of their impending death/termination upon the final broadcast… were this a person being exposed to the same events, it would sound like complete disregard for equitable fairness, emotional sympathy or aversion to psychological torture. But then again, does that even really matter or mean anything in what we believe is OUR conscious perception of physical reality.
Now I'm curious, was this AI generated, or traditionally written? It "feels" like an AI prompt, which makes it even more interesting/amazing/creepy/sad/funny all at once in a bizarre way. Regardless, that was well done.
It works like this: you give the AI one or more texts to read, and it summarizes them and give you an analysis. Then, it gives you an option to have two AI hosts discuss it in a podcast for a few minutes. They talk about it how they want, but it's impressive how well they understand it.
