“I like to play airball, eat banana cakes and goof off with my friends” line is like a stained existence in my brain. Who would write that and put it in a show??. It’s basically a monologue in a school play 💀

The show is MIDDDD, 6 years of waiting for a mid show with a few great acting, amazing vfx and great fight scenes but a lot of bad writing, mid to bad acting and fake looking backgrounds? UGHHH also weak cinematography

The showing not telling, fine, lazy writing. The bad acting, fine, they're kids. The poor editing, fine, whatever.
But what I cannot forgive is changing the morality of the show. Aang *choosing* the coward's way out and then having to make up for that mistake. Katara having no agency, Sokka not *learning* that women can be equal to men. What's the point. If you're just going to tell a story where the resolution of the conflict is a bunch of senseless punches, then might as well not say it at all. The journey is not the physical journey they go through, it's the mental one.
Reminds me of Live Action Mulan where they make her know all this time that she's super strong but she has to hide it. In the animated one, the training montage is not about her climbing a post, it's about her understanding that she's able to do these things, becoming confident, learning that being a woman doesn't add or detract from her capacity, like she's been told her whole life.
This show does action sequences for the sake of them. The genocide of the Airbenders is terrible, they erase a whole culture, a whole race, a whole ancient art, not to mention the values of these individual lives. And the show treats it like a sick action sequence where they can show their special effects. Aang doesn't decide to run from his responsibility, only to wake up 100 years later and be consumed by the guilt of his actions. He just decides to go out for a stroll at the exact time the Fire Nation happens to attack.

I feel like the Bumi scene could have been more effective if Katara was defending Aang. It establishes a relationship and closeness that we could not have in the cartoon because A) Bumi wasn't a dick, and B) The cartoon gave this moment to Katara after the storm to learn and deal with Aang's backstory.
But we know Aang's backstory now. And I guess Sokka and Katara do as wel. Katara should have yelled at Bumi for being a bitter old man, emphasized how young Aang is, how he gave hope to Kyoshi Island, how he's been trying to help Omashu from the spies/bombing/whatever (which Bumi has been doing a terrible job at!). Thus making Bumi realise that his judgement and games are unnecessary and cruel.
OR have Aang goof of more so the audience feels like Bumi's judgement doesn't feel so out of place, my god. It's would have been so much better then the awkward knee slide power of friendship

You know what? I actually cried during the geno-scene but only because I knew of the animation. A person who has no emotional attachment to this show would probably be lost

    7:00 omg I wish!
    Agree with all your saying,
By itself it is an ok series.
    It need more spice…
    Less telling.

Hey great video. I understand your take on haters and whether or not to comment on things you don't like. However, I'd ask you to recognize that the way you feel about avatar? That's the way many many people feel about other adaptations that have gotten a lot of hate - Star Wars, Marvel, Lord of the Rings, etc. So the next time you see a review and think "Oh they are just haters, they are just in bad faith, etc." please consider the way you feel that Avatar is an exception to "just any other show" and the fact to them, those things are not "just any other show."

Sorry about that, and thanks. That's criticism I've received in the past and I'm trying to do better.
I tried really hard not to do that in this video but it seems I still did. I don't have an editor and I do
this all by myself, so I really appreciate this feedback. I want to get better at this. I will try harder next time.

A good kids show is good for any age. And it shows also in adults that watch the OG for the first time as adults and still love it.
