Here’s another way to see if there’s a skimmer. Turn your Bluetooth on at the gas station. If you see an unusual number shown pop up on the menu . There’s a good chance there’s a skimmer near by. The skimmers usually transmit by Bluetooth to a person near by. Learned this from a police officer investigating skimmers

@@willschultz5452 and there's no better insurance than a credit cards insurance company. They work the fastest to get it resolved as quick as possible compared to a regular Bank with a debit card. I will give a shout out to Wells Fargo though they did work with me way back when I had an issue with my debit card before I knew better they work pretty quick to get it taken care of within a few days. But I learned my lesson to never use my debit card again. Here's another reason why you shouldn't use your debit card because you might have a certain amount of money in your account that you pay bills with and if you get your card hacked at a gas station they can stillv take that money and that can screw up your bills getting paid. now if you use your credit card you don't have to worry about that because it's not your money it's the banks. trust me the banks want their money back and they will get that money back very fast and they have great insurance especially if you use a card like Amex or chase.

    • @MrPir84free
      @MrPir84free 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Scammers exist every place that accepts credit cards.. if not at the pump, the guy behind the counter might have one that he swipes the card thru while it's in his possession; others are bolder and just take a picture of both sides of the credit card. Reality is, while not convenient, cash is often the safest means of conducting business with people you don't know.
Debit cards are often riskier than a credit card, especially if you use your PIN for the transaction.

Another scam, some one throws an egg at your windscreen, the natural reaction is to put on your wipers to clear the mess, DON'T use them, it will smear the egg and make it impossible to see clearly and don't pull over immediately instead drive on for a short while (if possible) then pull over and use a scraper and scrape downwards, that should work until you get the chance to clean the windscreen properly in a safe place. I'm sorry if some people already know of this scam but there maybe some who haven't.

Try to use only credit cards online, at the store and at gas stations. The bank/debit card is linked to YOUR CASH and once it's been withdrawn you're most likely out of luck. Fraudulent credit card transactions are usually eaten by the CC companies or at most you're only responsible for the first $50.

Correct. People who take pride in having no credit cards, but who think nothing of using a debit card to spend with, are risking their entire bank account. The other SCAM: When you pull up to a gas pump, another car pulls up in a hurry on the other side of your pump. (Gas pump hoses have been reversed, your hose is on the other side of the gas pump, where the other car pulled up). Once you pay, you are filling the other persons car. If in doubt, stop pumping and if your gas dial is still moving the handles have been switched! Or just visibly look at the gas hose.

Disagree on WD40 hurting paint, I have sprayed WD40 in door jambs of various cars in the winter to repel water and prevent rust! Never have I seen WD-40 eat into decent factory paint job. It may thin out a rattle can job, but modern paints have polymer sealers and WD-40 is not a high enough solvent (like acetone) to cut into and dissolve good paint, just my experience anyhow. I use it on old cars to clean and lube up everything on the firewalls and engines of old cars and it works amazingly, again never has effected painted surfaces.

The courts, insurance and police don’t care if they were caught on camera brake checking you. You shouldn’t have been riding their bumper. 1 car length per 10mph so if you rear end somebody, it’s your fault no matter what. The only time you rear end somebody and they get found at fault is if they cut in front of you and immediately slammed the brakes but you will have to have a dashcam to prove that. Just don’t expect it to save you if you were tailgating though because Commiefornia favors scammers

Why don't they make those air compressor wires long enough? On a rear tire, mine is so stretched between the air valve and the cigarette lighter socket that the pump doesn't rest on the ground.

I also suggest if you're that scared. Fill up then go pay inside the gas station.

Harbour Freight sells an extension cord with a cigarette plug on one end and 2 clamps ( + and - ) on the other end .
It works great with those air compressors .

Got skimmed in April of this year at a BP Gas station, never realized what happened after a month later when my bank FINALLY decided to tell me that fraudulent transactions were happening. Stopped going to that gas station and broke up with the bank. Lousy good for nothings.

You should check your bank account daily for fraudulent transactions! Check the app or set it up so you get a text message every time there is a transaction. How did you not notice there were fraudulent transactions for a month?

The car bump & run scam almost happened to me & my family. back in 1987 around 1 AM we we going to Hartford Ct. from Mass.
on I 91. We were going maby 65. I was very tired from a 6 hr trip. A Caddy out of no-where came to a full stop in front of me for no reason. It was full of latinos. 5 or 6. I did not hit them somehow. I stayed in the car. They sat there for almost a min. Them took off as fast as they could go. There was no other cars around, just us & the Caddy. Keep a tire iron under the seat. Just say'n.

When I ride through the corner gas station on the way to the trail or back to the barn, I make sure my horse takes a dump near the pump. Skim that.

The one time I use a credit card at the pump it got compromised. I always paid cash inside, forgot why I used the card like that, but if I have to use a card, in store only.

That is ridiculous. I guess he likes standing in line, twice if you want to fill up, in a place that is full of random/shady people and often gets robbed. Just get an extra card or two to use only for risky transactions like gas stations and restaurants. Your liability is limited to $50 by law as long as you report suspicious activity in a reasonable time, and usually to $0 by the credit card banks themselves.
