I’d be very hesitant to use these cams passively. Cam stops don’t always mean passive use. For example some of the black diamond C3 and metolius master cams have cam stops but are not intended to be used as passive pro. Trango doesn’t seem to mention that their cam is rated to be used passively in the product manual. For me the sure way to tell if a cam is rated for passive placements is if it has double axles. Anyway who cares, don’t think I’ve used a cam passively once and I’m sure I’m not alone.

They were my first and last cams, so they’ve held up

I’m on the fence between the Trango Flexcams & the Metolius UL Master cams supplemented with S,M & L Super cams. As far as performance & longevity do you have an opinion on which way to go?

Well the master cams are nice because they’re single stems (they’re more flexible). I also quite enjoy the super cams because their range is quite impressive, but if you’re just getting cams for the first time, it’s definitely not kind to your wallet because supercams are expensive. If youre getting cams for the first time, I’d go with flex cams. When I first got them I was hesitant because I thought they’d feel like toys (it’s kinda what they look like), but the spring tension is really nice, and they’re pretty light due to the lobe geometry. They’re also extremely cheap compared to most other cams. Master cams are pretty close in price range, but unless you have lots of experience with cams and KNOW you need supercams, it’s kinda just a lot of money.

Is this your first time getting cams or are you just deciding between the two?

GearAddictClimber I have a bunch of second hand & older cams but I want a new set by 1 brand. I don’t drive an Audi so I don’t need to front with a BD set. Most of what I have are older Metolius, so I did want to go single stem for more flexibility in my upgrade. So I’ve landed on Flex & Master Cams. The Flex Cams have a more intermediate & larger range than the Masters do so I’ll probably go with them & keep my smaller range of Metolius to supplement the widest range possible. That makes sense right?

@@AZDesertExplorer Certainly, flex cams won't break the bank so they'e a great choice! Thanks for commenting
