I just picked up the Aspire 5 A515-44. It comes with 8GiB of memory, the Ryzen 5 4500U, and a 256GB NVME M.2 card. Plus it has the upgrade path - I added a 1TB SSD drive to the existing SSD m.2 card. And I will probably add another 8GiB of memory. The base package is $550-ish at Amazon. Great processor and acceptable memory and drive space make this a great laptop and a great price.
I love my Acer Aspire 5. Had it for 8 months. Bought it for under $350 through Amazon. I did take off Windows 10S and it works fine. Resolution is good. I did get a wireless mouse, my choice because the cursor was jumping all over the place. I would recommend external drive or a larger storage capacity from the start.
I agree with some of the other commenters. I have put 32GB into this unit and it runs great. I am also upgrading the storage to 1 TB. The big disappointment that I have is that it appears to have a space for a regular SSD,. but they do not fit. It looks like it was just thrown in.
I got this for my mother, for about 35$ i got her a secound stick of 4gb of ram in there. After that i spent about 45$ and dropped a secound hard drive in there so she now has 1tb extra added. This laptop extremely easy to add those things in it. There is about 5000 videos that will give you a step by step on how to do this.

Very good value laptop and for only a few dollars you can turn it into a 2tb storage with 16gb of ram laptop.
Something else I didn't hear you mention is that although this laptop appears to be near the bottom of the chart, there are really only 2 other equivalent cpu's it's being compared to. Most results are core i5, which is a much beefier cpu. It actually fairs very well in the ryzen-3 / core i3 category. I ordered the Ryzen 7 version of this and I'm anxious to get it. Based on your throttling issues, though, I'm hoping they upgraded cooling with the R7 configuration.

I wouldn't recommend acer as a brand their hardware within the first year of use will give issues. Their price is too good to believe. They lack quality control on their production
a bad defect on this Laptop is the Wi-Fi function: this function disappears and I can only get it again if I reset everything (this is really uncomfortable because I have to save the files, load again programs and so on). It seems to be tipical defect from ACER

@@ellatinarivas431 I haven't used it to much for gaming the lack of RAM/Memory in the drive is the major issue I have already had to get a 1 Tier thumb drive to act as a D drive because in 6 months or less I was full to be honest I have talked with techs who have told me now SSD is a lot more affordable so it may be better to just look for a newer pc but this is fast and has good graphics card basically everything that was brought up in the video is dead on, I am happy with it will just add bigger SSD at some point depending on the life, hope that helps

If anyone reading my comment then ill keep it short, never buy acer - i own this laptop and using it for a while now and its garbage, although it comes with sufficient graphic card and ram still you cant play games in 30fps or resolution 1020x960. if you even put TH-cam video to 4k then fan start spinning, and the noise my god. its gets heated up so fast if you are keeping on your lap or on your chest while sleeping then you are done. so big no.

MAX RAM upgrade on the Aspire 5 515 43 should be 16 Gb with a 1 TB SSD upgrade it went from .512 Gb GPU to 2 Gb GPU (vega 3 graphics)

No it's just for Office and internet. For heavy duty the best is macbook air. It is not cheap but it last years and you can refurb if you keep it in good condition

In general the CPU with only 2 physical cores, Lower ram and storage. However enough for normal use. Browsing, mailing, streaming, office work. Ram and storage is upgradeable, the CPU is not. Depending on the software, in general more cores makes you laptop Running more smoothly. As the Acer Aspire 5 has 4 physical Cores. Both are certainly not good enough to play higher end Games.
I can't adjust my keyboard backlight option, i even called the support and they said it cant be done. Light turns off every 30 seconds. Its so frustrating. I will never buy a garbage acer ever again. How hard is it to have a simple function like this.
Yes if you upgrade the RAM to 8 or 16 gb you can run gta v from 30 to 60 fps if you put the settings on low and rocket league with extra ram can do 130 fps

From what I can see that particular build has an inferior TN display at a low 720p resolution. I'd verify that before purchasing. While you could certainly live with that kind of screen the experinece isn't exactly pleasant. It's viewing angles would be quite bad and being such low resolution would limit what you could fit on screen, thus limiting the kind of work you could do (photo editing, etc). Otherwise the Ryzen 5 is an excellent chip for a laptop. 8 GB is only ok for total system memory, however, as the Ryzen 5 shares system memory between CPU and GPU so you'd most likely want to upgrade to a 16 GB memory kit. Hope that helps.
I just got mine toady, overall it's a decent laptop, but the screen is really bad tbh. Would not recommend photo editing on it, unless you hook it up to an external monitor.
@@ryansmithphotography Honestly, I don't think you can find any laptop in this price range with good enough color accuracy for photo editing. The screen is the first thing manufacturers tend to cheap out on, when it comes to budget devices.
@@ryansmithphotography Depending on how it's specced, it should run Photoshop just fine. I've got one with the Ryzen 5 4500U and 16GB of ram. It achieved 2100 points in Cinebench R20, so PS shouldn't be an issue, though I haven't tried. Look for one with 2 ram slots though. Mine has 8 gigs soldered onto the mobo and only 1 sodimm slot, and the soldered ram is only 2666MHz, so I can't upgrade to 3200 or 3600MHz, and Ryzen really likes fast memory, especially Ryzen APUs. With 3200MHz ram it would achieve at least 100 more points in cinebench. On my desktop R5 3600, the difference between 2666MHz and 3200MHz memory was over 200 points.
Without a doubt, yes. The Sims is one of the lowest resource games you can play and will run fine on this system. In fact, you can run much more demanding games on this system than the Sims, such as GTA V, without a problem once it's memory been upgraded a bit. As to that, this Acer Aspire 5 has 2 ram slots inside: one comes filled with a 4GB of DDR4 2666 SODIMM board and the other slot sits empty. I'd highly suggest adding another 4GB of DDR4 SODIMM for that second empty slot for a total of 8GB after upgrade or, even better, purchasing a 16GB kit with 2 8GB memory boards to replace the existing 4GB. I have a custom desktop for my music production but have this laptop for recording away from home amd works well using vst plugins. If you are doing edm music then in the long run you will run into problems but thos laptop really helped me get started.

I'd definitely go with the Ryzen 7. It is not only a great CPU but its integrated GPU is far, far faster than integrated GPU in the Intel system.

It's viewing angles would be quite bad and being such low resolution would limit what you could fit on screen, thus limiting the kind of work you could do (photo editing, etc). Otherwise the Ryzen 5 is an excellent chip for a laptop. 8 GB is only ok for total system memory, however, as the Ryzen 5 shares system memory between CPU and GPU so you'd most likely want to upgrade to a 16 GB memory kit. I just got mine toady, overall it's a decent laptop, but the screen is really bad tbh. Would not recommend photo editing on it, unless you hook it up to an external monitor.

@@ryansmithphotography Honestly, I don't think you can find any laptop in this price range with good enough color accuracy for photo editing. The screen is the first thing manufacturers tend to cheap out on, when it comes to budget devices.

@@ryansmithphotography Depending on how it's specced, it should run Photoshop just fine. I've got one with the Ryzen 5 4500U and 16GB of ram. It achieved 2100 points in Cinebench R20, so PS shouldn't be an issue, though I haven't tried. Look for one with 2 ram slots though. Mine has 8 gigs soldered onto the mobo and only 1 sodimm slot, and the soldered ram is only 2666MHz, so I can't upgrade to 3200 or 3600MHz, and Ryzen really likes fast memory, especially Ryzen APUs. With 3200MHz ram it would achieve at least 100 more points in cinebench. On my desktop R5 3600, the difference between 2666MHz and 3200MHz memory was over 200 points.

Without a doubt, yes. The Sims is one of the lowest resource games you can play and will run fine on this system. In fact, you can run much more demanding games on this system than the Sims, such as GTA V, without a problem once it's memory been upgraded a bit. As to that, this Acer Aspire 5 has 2 ram slots inside: one comes filled with a 4GB of DDR4 2666 SODIMM board and the other slot sits empty. I'd highly suggest adding another 4GB of DDR4 SODIMM for that second empty slot for a total of 8GB after upgrade or, even better, purchasing a 16GB kit with 2 8GB memory boards to replace the existing 4GB.

Upgrading this Acer laptop is extremely easy... just remove 10 screws from the bottom of the laptop, pop off the bottom cover and insert your new memory in the slot. Here is a link to a quick video on how to upgrade RAM (and storage if you wanted) on this laptop. Note, the inside of this laptop is identical to what's show in the video even though the video is for the Ryzen 5 version... the upgrade will be identical on the Ryzen 3 version:

I have a custom desktop for my music production but have this laptop for recording away from home amd works well using vst plugins. If you are doing edm music then in the long run you will run into problems but thos laptop really helped me get started.
