Mike, thank you so much for showing how to set up the drive in Windows. After watching a half dozen videos showing the hardware piece, you are the first to show a novice or a forgetful old tech a refresher on basic harddrive set up in Windows. Cheers mate!

Excellent walkthrough! Though I was sure I knew what to do I like to watch a quick tutorial just in case there is some quirk of the particular machine I don't know about, I find this saves time in the end overall.
This tutorial is excellent, it is concise and extremely informative, nothing is skipped that would leave a newbie confused while at the same time not being condescending about any of those steps. Walking through the software side of the install is a well thought out inclusion to make the video a truly complete guide. Also, closeups and on screen arrows to help follow along are well done and a great addition.
The presenter comes across as confident and knowledgeable with a speaking pattern and voice that is engaging without being fake. You won't fall asleep trying to follow along and you won't roll your eyes at unfunny jokes and comments.
Thank you, I highly recommend this video/channel.

Mike, you just saved me from a panic attack. I used your previous video to crack open the laptop so I could change the RAM, but then tried to add an SSD. And I almost had a heart attack when I unscrewed the little caddy for the drive and the plug board came off, with nothing connected to it. And the only thing that looks like a ribbon cable was too short. Luckily I remembered that you had this video as a follow up, and there it was: the cage is shipped stashed backwards, and the cable is the correct length. Outstanding tutorial, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.

Nice video Mike. An option for someone who has an older laptop that doesn't have a space for a second hard drive, but does have a DISC drive that they don't use is to replace the drive with a caddy that can be bought from Amazon or elsewhere that will allow you to mount a 2.5" SSD in that spot. I've done this with my Dell, and for some people in my neighborhood.

Hi, first off thanks for the video! This is a great service to a lot of people out there.
Secondly, I am trying to follow this with my Acer Aspire 5 A515-51G-53MR, which doesn't come with the SATA cable or drive caddy/tray, so I am planning to buy them online.
However, I can't find the SATA port on the motherboard in the spot you indicate in the video. Instead, it looks like there is something hooked up to the ethernet port in its place.
I have a picture of the internals of my laptop to show, but I'm not sure if I can link to them in this comment. If you're willing to offer advice, maybe we can figure out a way to communicate it.
Would you happen to know anything about this? Is it possible that my model cannot take a SATA drive, even though it's an A515?

This is a great video. I purchased the Acer Aspire 5 and added a 8gb memory stick and a Seagate 512 GB SSD SATA drive in the second bay. The only thing I would add for those considering this laptop is watch the antenna wires for the Intel wireless card. They are right up against the 2.5” drive caddy for the second drive slot. The video shows the wires right up against the drive caddy. Mine disconnected when I removed the caddy. It is a little tricky to reattach the wire nodes to the wireless card once they disconnect.
