Thats not to say there arent some weird, self important queer people... and the NA lefties love arguing with themselves...)
Though I do agree with your first part, there are trans binary people who feel that they should be gendered correctly just by looking if they're used to passing virtually anywhere else. Even though asking is done with good intentions, it can still hurt or prod a bit of insecurity at "so I will never come of as [gender] enough, if people still have to ask, after all this effort into transition?" I like how the "let the women and children go first" which assumes assumes there's no single fathers or that non-parent women are more worthy of protecting than men gets completely ignored, but we're happy to obsess over how someone identifies. It's that kind of sexism so accepted which causes these kinds of problems. If it was just parents and pregnant people leave then there'd be no issue, but because of the needless gendering of a call to protect families/kids we get this kind of ridiculousness. Well done Zach.
Does it assume that or does it just follow the bullshit traditional ideals that set that very idea in place because of men's perceived stance as the protectors
I think I understand what you're saying. The whole "Let the women and children go" and not the men honestly could stem back to hundreds of years ago- hell, when people first made civilization there was a separation with the roles. So if anything, it is systemic sexism that has been classified as okay over centuries as there's not enough people fighting against it because of how long it's been in place. Very unnerving in these types of situations. Also the identification thing, the video was more geared towards talking about transgender people rather than sexism, but sexism should definitely be clarified in the video. One example that I thought of when reading your comment was the titanic, and how they like you said, only let the women and children go and the men had to stay on the sinking ship.
Your suggestion allows people to lie, which many would in a life or death situation. And in life or death situations you generally don't have the time to sort things out. How many single dads would have appeared to take up limited spaces on lifeboats on the Titanic? That mindset was also from a time period when virtually everyone was married and had children by their mid 20s. So most of your adult women were moms.

Jokes aside, for those that assume/are worried that asking is offensive, its not. Asking is actually what we're advocating for. And realistically misgendering is only something that can be done AFTER its been clarified, the first time SHOULD be a free pass.
(And lets be honest, non-queer people are the most likely to be offended if you "cant tell by looking"... Thats not to say there arent some weird, self important queer people... and the NA lefties love arguing with themselves...)
Though I do agree with your first part, there are trans binary people who feel that they should be gendered correctly just by looking if they're used to passing virtually anywhere else. Even though asking is done with good intentions, it can still hurt or prod a bit of insecurity at "so I will never come of as [gender] enough, if people still have to ask, after all this effort into transition?" I don't think this kind of reaction is limited to just "weird, self-important queer people," though I do think it is a them problem, and asking has more benefits than being afraid to ask

The adam's apple thing is also fairly inaccurate for trans men, if they have been on enough testosterone. I have a somewhat prominent Adams apple after three years on testosterone. I was also born w a more masculine frame like narrow hips and wide shoulders. I could be intersex or somethin but idk. Its harder to tell for trans men in particular because in utero all fetuses start out with the female stuff. taking testosterone therapy later in life just makes your body go "oh duh we're a man now. we're male as hell how did i not see this" forever and ever. easier to introduce the 'permanent male now toggle' than to try to undo the effects of that said toggle.
