This is not a complex issue. Palestinians have been living in apartheid without control over their own lives for 50+ years. Hamas is just a scapegoat.
The only solution is for Israel to give Palestinians their land and respect their right to self-determination. Israel can stay, just re-establish the old borders. They can be so nice as to aid the Palestinians in establishing a democratic government because Hamas has stopped all elections and democratic processes.
But the occupation has to stop, plain and simple. It's on them. They have set the rules, and they have the backing of the fucking U.S. military. They are the only ones who can end it.

Ok, so as someone who took 20th century modern history, and who had a teacher from Iran… as soon as the Israel-Palestine thing started, this is what class felt like. Basically, the class asked, and the teacher basically started teaching another class because we kept bugging him. After that the class pretty much went off the rails and the final was basically “since we didn’t really talk about half the stuff we were supposed to, write me a paper explaining what your interpretation of the middle eastern conflicts are. There are… almost no wrong answers. Just try and I’ll pass you.” That teacher was chill AF and tbh I learned a lot about what exactly is going on… and now my family thinks I’m weird because I don’t agree with American interventionism anymore. A+ teacher, would recommend.

I literally don't know what opinion to have because one source tells me Israel intentionally kills/tortures civilians and the next tells me Hamas does. One source says Israel stole Palestine's land and the next says the land has always been in dispute, Israel has been there for ages and only got officially recognized in the last century. One person on the internet says "genocide" and another says "self-defense." EVERYONE uses emotionally charged words (usually with no credible sources or logical reasoning) and simultaneously says, "That's just the facts! If you don't agree, you're a horrible person!"
I care about this conflict. I care about Russia vs. Ukraine. There are so, so many horrible things happening around the world that should be noticed but aren't. It pains me to know that people are suffering so horrifically.
The problem is, I can't do a damn thing about most of it.

Well damn, there's so much misinformation I can't pick a side. And while I recognize the value of moral support, my random voice on the internet holds no weight either for the people at war or for our government in the US, so ultimately, my opinion is meaningless in this case.

Okay, but there's a homeless schizophrenic down the street who runs around half naked. There's children in Africa dying of thirst. There's women who have been forced into prostitution in my own city and who have escaped who NO ONE gives a shit about - and the supplies drop off for their shelter is close to me. I have a friend who can't walk much and is suffering from horrible health issues, mostly caused by the abuse she endured as an innocent child.
These are people who are close to me, who I can give directly to and know it won't get lost, money won't be siphoned, etc. I have no problem sending resources to civilians in any war. The problem is, I only have so many resources myself, and there are so many wars and terrible things that I can't possibly help everyone. So I try to help where I can, in the ways I think will be maximized and I can have the greatest positive effect.

Well yes it is simple. people don't know shit about how cooperative the Israeli and Palestinian population are. The only groups to blame are the extremists from both sides. the Israeli far right, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad among other similar organizations and their supporters that are feeding into each other.
1) Israel isn't going anywhere. you can't justify displacing millions of people just because it happened before.
2) Israel stops its shit behavior towards Palestinians like evictions settlers and cracks down on settler violence more seriously(they already do... sometimes though). the Israeli left has been working on this for decades but every time there is a terrorist attack, which there were a lot of, their efforts go kaput.
3) Palestinians turn on terrorist organizations like Hamas.
4) borders wise, both sides have to come with a mindset that they're gonna compromise something. but I would somwhat favor Israel because they've built an actually functional country and host plenty of Arabs which is far from symmetrical on the other side.
I'd also like to add, I'm an Arab Israeli, and the hatred from the Palestinian side is just appalling. they've indoctrinated their people to hate unconditionally. the same kinda goes for the Israeli far right, but the scale between the two is completely different, it's much worse on the Palestinian side from what I've seen.
Either way, the entire conflict is beyond moronic imo. if you took a couple of regular people that actually want to collaborate and put them in power they'd solve it the next day, I'm exaggerating a bit but you get my point. we already have plenty of collaborative facilities set up. you just have to shut the extremists up.

I’d recommend checking out the two Andrew Callaghan videos on this. He visits a pro-Israel and pro-palestine rally and asks people in attendance questions and interviews two relevant experts. He does a great job at not pushing a particular narrative deliberately. I personally think that the situation isn’t _that_ complicated, and people who say that are trying to make you scared of attempting to educate yourself. If you want a complicated geopolitical situation, research the Iranian hostage crisis 😉

Before ww1 everyone was happily-ish living in the Ottoman Empire. But then a world war happened and the Ottoman Empire broke. So the British created Palestine.
everyone was still happilyish living besides a few massacres now and then (idk if it was the Arab or Jewish people, so let’s just say both.)
But after ww2 everyone was kinda feeling sorry for the Jewish people, so they decided to figure out where to give them land. And eventually the British where like “what if we give them Palestine, and split it with the arabs.” And everyone except the Arabs said “OK”
So in 1948 Israel was born, but the Arabs didn’t like the land now being owned by someone else, even though they still had like half of what’s modern day Israel.

Then Israel was sick of the wars, and at this point I’m pretty sure there was no Palestine, just all the neighbouring Arab territory’s, and the Israeli Arabs, so Israel tried some two state solutions, and after like 5 fails, and an assassination on the prime minister for trying a two state solution, I believe Israel just gave Palestine two territory’s, the West Bank, and Gaza. Now it’s debatable if these are countries. But there are some (at least what most country’s classify, and it’s probably not the best to disagree with) Palestinian terrorist groups popped up. And than wars kept popping up, before this time Israel invaded Gaza to try and stop them, in what may or may not be a good way.
