I bought mine (only the 20i but most features are the same) a few months ago, and i think you do the infotainment a disservice. Your tone suggests that because its previous generation thats a bad thing. In my opinion thats a selling point. The latest iDrive 8 is 100% touch screen. Its useless to use in a regular car. Fine if you have a tesla with autopilot, but you need tactile feedback when driving a normal car. The iDrive 7 setup has a lot more physical inputs for major features, and the puck controller is a lot more user friendly and can be used without having to concentrate on where your hands are going on the screen. I hope iDrive 9 brings back a lot of those features because I wont be upgrading my car to anything with iDrive 8 in it.
Totally agree...and why we purchased the '23 x3 M40i before it morphed into wide screen, iDrive 8+ land. Physical button controls are much more intuitive for me to operate. Eyes up and looking down the road....car goes where the eyes go....
Great production. Bought my first BMW, a ‘22 Z4 M40i, couple of years ago. I’ve been an Audi guy for many years, still am, but I wanted a roadster for once in my life. The TTRS roadster never did it for me, the looks were ugly. The 718 Boxster looks great, classic, but it sounds like shit now. The Z4 M40i was a great discovery for me. First time I test drove it, I fell it love with it. I enjoy driving it as my fun weekend car on a sunny day. And the sound of that in-line 6! 😊
Plus you get compliments on it all the time like I do. Ah I wish this car came out back when I was 21. At that time the M235i was new. I wanted the M4 cuz I wanted to pose, but my dealer luckily put sense into me. Turns out he was right. Car and driver magazine ten best cars from 2015 to 2017, number 1 car on that list in those years when I owned the 235, the M235i. Yup. But if this very z4 was out back then, it would be ABOVE the list and ABOVE number 1, it would be so good it would be in it's own dimension lol. Wish I hadn't cheated on my wife because when I got my z4 we were going out, and her panties dropped, and we were like best friends, but she was my ex wife at that point 😭😭. Plus I'm a pilot now anyway so once your a pilot cruising 6-8500 feet above everyone else, aka the normies aka everyone has a car, and your cruising over the ground passing people stuck in traffic Going 165mph with good winds, you no longer care about sitting in a car and driving somewhere. It feels like bejng a peasant.
I am surprised as a reviewer you didn’t point out how dangerous it is to have both identical switches side by side for handbrake and roof opening! These established companies must have “design rules “ that govern what can be done and not. My Audi A3 Convertible had the same design and I had mistakenly operated the brake switch when trying to open the roof - I was shocked in both events. Luckily they happened at car park speeds
Same here , I did the same with the hand break button, about the 20i being too quiet ,I have the same car (Manual) I installed an MST air intake an it improved the induction noise a lot , and with a racechip you can also add more power
I see they "fixed" that issue with the newly announced manual transmission Handchalter package...the top up/down switch is moved to the upper right side of the transmission tunnel.
I had a '98 Z3, 5spd 2.8 ltr. Was on the waiting list for 1.5 yrs to get an M Roadster with German engine, was in line and ordered the second one my dealer received. I still have that 2001 M Roadster, respectable low mileage, and it's driven regularly. I still pick up my step when I walk out to the barn to slide the doors and take her for a ride. Have driven Z4s multiple times as loaners or for 'fun'. I think that males will buy this particular Z4. If you really want to open it up to the men's market then do one very simple thing: offer it with a six speed MANUAL TRANSMISSION. If you're going to take anything out of the car, ditch the cup holders---NOT needed. In fact, a passenger is optional. It's a BMW Roadster, a Driver should be able to jump in, grip it and rip it.
I feel exactly how you feel with the M40 cars of this generation vs the M cars. The M cars make a lot of sense if you track a lot but otherwise they are just too compromised as daily drivers. The M40s are the M cars for the road. I have the "other" Supra brother the M240i and I love it. I never track the car but I do hit over 200 km/h daily on the unrestricted highways and I'm always the fastest car on the road. (In fact it's faster than the M2 0-60 because of AWD) I felt like getting the M2 would just give me a fussier car in terms of ride harshness, noise and comfort levels. Great review as always, I hope your channel continues to grow. I subscribed when you had around 20k subscribers and now you have 10 times as much!

I traded my '22 M5 Comp for my '25 Z4 M40i and this (the Z4) is a lot more fun. seriously! The M5 yo9u need to be going about 120mph+ to have fun and the Z4 is a blast at half that speed. It's very tossable and really a delight in tight curvy roads. My only regret is that I only got to drive for about a week and then snow season started early, so it's in hibernation until spring
I've had that same issue with other cars...suspect my 5' 6" height has something to do with that. I really appreciate vehicles that have a height adjustable pillar seat belt mounting point...unfortunately, not feasible with a roadster.

Have the same B58/ZF 8 speed in our x3 M40i...great combo but yes, certainly more power/speed than you can use on a daily basis. It's the perfect marriage of engine & transmission: very smooth power delivery that caused us to choose the M40 over the base 3.0. Suspect that'd be my similar decision if a new Z4 is in our future.
I'm looking for a sports car at a reasonable price with great sound and a genXYZ anti-theft device. This car look like it just might fit that criteria!
Mike ..What I don't understand is why didn't BMW build a Z4M Coupe from this body style, why did they get all involved with Toyota . There is a big following of the old Z4m coupe and the Z3M I think BMW would have sold a lot of them there really isn't a small sports car coupe hardtop from BMW correct me if I'm wrong .

For what it’s worth, BMW did dangle that carrot with the unveiling of the Touring Coupe Concept at this year’s 2023 Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza auto show. From all accounts, it was well received by the show attendees and those seeing it online and social media…we just have to wait to see if BMW acknowledges that and decides to move forward with its production.
The reason why they won't make a Z4M is because BMW will then have to give the S58 to Toyota and have them offer a Supra GRMN or something. BMW is afraid that will cannibalize sales of the M2, M3, M4 if the Supra does all that for a lower price and lighter weight.
The whole "M" thing doesn't really matter that much, these B58 straight sixes are getting to 500 HP with just an intake and tune and become a whole new beast. AND are still very reliable at that point, they've made this engine VERY strong. Going deeper with changing some internals (pistons, rods) and upgraded turbo with tune they're hitting 700+ hp easily. The B58 is arguably one of the best engines BMW has ever made.

Faster, but less maneuverable (GTS is faster than the M40i). Louder engine, but quieter interior. Better interior and infotainment than the Boxster. Fewer options, but they cost a lot less, too. Porsche is the better driver's car, but this car is the better cruiser. It's all a matter of preference though. Can't go wrong with either. Just depends on what you value more.
white interior ??? give the car a dirty look and it shows on the interior, I drive 7 better than idrive 8, less complicated. i7 has more physical buttons, less Tesla like.
It's coming. It's been announced and reviewed already. It comes with upgrades that only the manual has, larger 20 inch wheels in rear, 285s in the rear, better rear axle,.stiffer front anti roll bars, and of course a custom manual specifically tuned to be perfect for the z4 including a unique frozen green color

No way. Owned a 2011 SL 550 and my 2019 Z4 sDrive30i out performs the SL in all categories. Balance, handling, comfort, speed, and amenities are superb in the BMW. SL was too much of “an old man’s car.
I DID consider the M40 but I couldn’t justify the $12k price difference (plus I don’t need anymore speeding tickets). I was shocked at the power and balance of the 30i - and as a daily driver I’ve been averaging around 33mpg! I opted for the Orbit Grey wheels, black Vernasca heated seats (and steering wheel), along with Comfort Convenience and remote start. No doubt the M40 is a beast but this is so balanced and quick and it’s all I need. No mods - but I DID de-badge it (looks cleaner from the rear).

I did get a used 2021 Z4 m40i with only 7000 km ( Misano blue with ivory ( white ) interior. I thought it was a good deal? $70,0000 Canadian dollars - now I do have to say - if you don’t like attention ( a bit introverted ) like my wife - Don’t get this car - I am not sure about all the looks - who knows if people hate me for driving this car.
How’s the ivory interior? I’m planning to order a manual in Thunder-night and ivory but I worry about the interior looking dirty. How’s your holding up?

The biggest bummer is the "un"adjustable seatbelt which keeps rubbing on your neck

I thought it was a good deal? $70,0000 Canadian dollars - now I do have to say - if you don’t like attention ( a bit introverted ) like my wife - Don’t get this car - I am not sure about all the looks - who knows if people hate me for driving this car.
How’s the ivory interior? I’m planning to order a manual in Thunder-night and ivory but I worry about the interior looking dirty. How’s your holding up?
@@hojichaisfarsuperiortochai9309 not bad at all - but I would have preferred the tan interior with this Misano blue . It doesn’t stain but I don’t wear blue jeans when I drive it - however once every month or so - I do apply leather cleaner .
