I’m from Sherburn Hill. In my life time you had the Moor Edge pub and The Burley Lodge pub in the village and also Sherburn Hill working men’s club. There isn’t even one now. Even the kids have to go to school in a different village now but I suppose that’s a sign of the times. I agree that the views are amazing especially on top of the moors. My grandparents used to tell me that there was once seven public houses in Sherburn Hill alone at one point.
Incredible thirst people had back then! But, yeah, I hear a lot of stories about how vibrant villages and towns were, it’s such a shame that communities have had to suffer in that way
4:04 The Old Curio Vintage Sofa Warehouse, I believe it was always a furniture place; it housed Durham Fine Furniture. The Google Street View show it change from Durham Fine Furniture to The Old Curio in 2021. I am guessing Durham Fine Furniture closed down in 2019.
The Local Crescent named after my great grandfather who was a cllr and did great work in the community. Think the first converted church you showed was the Salvation Army hall, their shields high on the brickwork. The SA very strong in the villages, did great work in the community.
I live at the bottom of sherburn hill in local avenue. The buildings at 4:30 used to be a shoe factory and glasses factory, not sure what they were before that tho they could of been churches

Yeah, I quite liked it, the roads through are busy but it’s compensated by those views up at Sherburn Hill!
