Stockton AND Darlington Railway...... Rocket has no connection to Darlington.... Please record the first Darlington as ACTIVE or Locomotion No. 1..mmmm
The Forum building was in fact a school.....
Back onto Skinner Gate...... You got it right later.....
Is it as good as Newcastle - only joking 🤭
@@letsbeavenue well, no! But it’s better than people think it is, found a couple of really good boozers too, so winner!
Absolutely beautiful!!
u should have went up the pit its were the mines used to be
Yeah? To be fair I don’t know the place, but if you tell me roughly where it is I’ll go and have a butchers Cheers!
@@NorthernExposure1 you know the place where it was blocked off and there was a sign, if u walk straight down there it will lead you to a road and there should be like a cut across. I don’t know how to explain it but when u get there you’ll see where to go.
Hi, I've enjoyed your videos keep them coming, not very often do you get a wind free day in county Durham 😅 all the best for the new year.
Cheers!! I’ll back out at the weekend now, maybe venturing back into North Yorkshire or maybe Teesside! Having said that, I do change my mind at the last minute!!
5cm of snow and -14C temperatures forecast by the Met Office. Eldon Lane will look festive! Another great video.
St. Helen’s was restored a few years back (repointed and lime washed amongst a few other things). If you’d have carried on through ‘church Kelloe’ you’d have made it to the pit heaps, plenty of history there. And the Methodist church hasn’t been used in a good few years now. Good video 👍🏼
Cheers, May go back and have look at some point
Hi from Hongkonger
Nice 👍 video bud subscribed cheers 👍

hi mate the community centre has been a round since I was a kid in the 80s and perhaps easier than that. Davison,s has been around since then as well as the Club and the Red Lion but has changed hands a few times the coop was an old church then changed to the coop in the early '90s there was a pub next to the post office where the dog grooming place is now the post office was both the building the post office is now and next door nuts borders the wheatsheaf recently closed its door as the owners retired the salvation army has bee around a long time as well and this site was the old coop be for it moved and had many different shops attached to it as well the methodist church had a boy bagrade attached to it as well when I was little me and my friend was a port of the group in the 90s plus a drop-in centre for the elderly and Sunday school it was a big part of the community wen i was little we had a scouts group as well in leadgate but it has closed now the Roxy has just bean referbused after bean derilict for sum time it is a old sinermar we had it cloed in the 80s and has just beenreopend last year the eden miners is called the choot wen i was littel it was the locel dropin center for the youth club and is still the locel dropin center this was a locel brikabrac shop in th 80s , 90s hope this info can help you mate
ah memories...when i moved to county durham back in late 1999 (from newcastle) - i moved to murton for a few years and have good memories of it! the chippy @ 2:42 used to be a working mans club back then i was at dalton park when it first opened too...think it was in 2001.. ken loaches film - the little oak is based in murton and @ 2:16 you can see the pub on the right hand side (furthest grey building) where it was based at...think it's closed now, but used to be called the high house when i lived there... murton was a poor place (still is it seems), but the people were friendly...seems to be the case with most east county durham villages that had a mining past..
Been watching your vids for a while now your a proper down to earth guy mate 👌
Cheers! Glad you enjoy em! I try me best!!!
Sure I seen big John shed with a baldy head haha

Merry Christmas, Simon! Severe snow has been forecast by the Met Office. I can't wait to see Eldon Lane covered in snow!
I know! I’m supposed to be going to Scarborough on New Years Day! Happy Christmas 🎄 to you too!
The Chinese and fish and chip shop is open again.
My late father was born and raised in Catchgate and worked at Morrison Busty pit. My late aunt and uncle lived in St Aidens Terrace Annfield Plain.

Ha! Nice one!
My village I lived my childhood in and it was a lovely place to be. The village hall used to be a very smart old building but was demolished and they built that monstrosity which was a shame. Years back we would get LOADS of snow and be blocked in for ages. Did you know that church (St Michael's) got a visit from Edward I as he was heading north to fight William Wallace. I used to cut the grass of that church when I was a teenager. The cross on the village green is said to mark one of the resting places of Cuthbert as the monks were travelling from Holy Island but his heart never stopped beating so the carried on and of course found Durham
Thanks for this! Some great info Do like it up there, though was very very windy today !
@@NorthernExposure1 Yeah you can get some terrible winds up there for sure
Bowes?
Yep 👍
@@NorthernExposure1 lol l got bowes in my name

Next time you visit, check out the Hamsteels Est, I use to live in the street called "Clifford's Gate." The road you mentioned about the tree's was Ridding Road.
Nice one, will do
My fathers family is originally from West Auckland. Watching the video makes me feel like I have to visit. The village looks so beautiful.
We holidayed here in about 1964 i think i fell in the water at the stepping stones .
Had a walk through the Cathedral with my 2 sisters earlier this year it's lovely.
Love this, thank you ❤️🚜
I love a walk around Durham, the Cathedral is a go to place for abit peace and quiet it also has a lovely cafe 👍😊
Thanks🎉🎉0
Excellent, Durham Cathedral, one of the finest examples of a Norman Cathedral anywhere in Europe, containing the tomb of St Cuthbert. This was an insightful tour. A beautiful university city. Thank you.
It’s a fab place, both the cathedral and Durham itself
Can you go to the Eldon Lane Christmas market?

I passed by this village on bus X21 from Newcastle, nice to see it explored
When it had a brewery it was my favourite pint.
Good town Darlington, town centre is clean lots of independent shops none boarded up and lots of pubs within a short distance.
It`s funny that this video should appear today, because my husband and I were telling a man we were talking to in Shotley Bridge hospital, that my husbands late mother had family in Butterknowle. She was a Clarke before she married. The Clarkes had a farm at Butterknowle. I think they were Clarkes Eggs.
I live there it’s very peaceful not a lot gos on😂

Hi Simon. I once taught in Butterknowle and was glad to see the video. It would be better if your voice could be added later as the sound of the wind made hearing difficult.
Yeah, the wind was really strong up there today!!!!! Be nice to visit on a still summer’s day!
Honestly I miss Manchester so much I live in bishop Auckland now it’s proper garbage 😅
