Awesome! Welcome aboard! We had heard reviews that the north of England was beautiful and the people were lovely, but really Newcastle as well as Durham exceeded our expectations! So much so that we are really considering settling in the north in the future (when we can afford it 😂). Thanks for watching and for your compliments - it really means a lot to us :) And if you have any suggestions for videos let us know too! Been to Durham many times - born about 10 miles away. Absolutely love Durham City - not many tourists go there or even know about it. The whole of County Durham is lovely.
@gpzfan5272 Its nicer then most towns and citys, But yeah Durham as a county is not well founded , worst town I have been to was Darlington , some really horrible people there. On a night its a nightmare. Darlington is ok for shopping during the day , but dangerous on a night
In a way it's quite lucky that the main tourist route is York to Edinburgh, as it's all a bit more rewarding to find that Durham is very much worth visiting. The cathedral is an architecrual masterpiece (I've yet to visit a more impressive one), and the site has historical significance too. Hope you get to visit the nice villages, castles and beaches in north Northumberland too at some point - the most unspoilt area of England.
We totally agree! We had felt in Durham like we were the characters of the medieval movie :) Literally not long ago we've visited York and it's equally beautiful but way more commercialised resulting in tonnes of tourists, so actually it loses its charm a bit. And talking about the Cathedrals: Durham Cathedral was absolutely our favourite and we were truly happy to pay the fee and go to the top of the tower 🏰❤️ Whereas, we didn't even enter York Minster because the entrance fee + the viewpoint was 25 GBP/person which we found too pricey. It's a bit sad that you need to be mindful of the costs when exploring the city but I guess every county has its own rules.
My grandad was from Durham. He was such a lovely man. So loving and caring. My dads side of the family are all Geordies. Newcastle . Seaham.. and all places round Northumberland . Love it. We stayed at Whitley bay. Beautiful. We stayed in a really nice house which was converted to apartments. So cosy and very posh and different. Had a sea view too. Brilliant
I've been looking forward to this update, as I said it's an incredible place (fun fact the public toilets beside the cathedral are where throughout medieval times they minted the coins for multiple kings and queens of our time!) and now it's a toilet 😂 Glad you enjoyed my new adopted little City Thank you !

Thanks for showing the beautiful City of Durham, I've lived here since 1990. I saw a couple of my friends in your video! (around the 20:14 to 20:16 mark). There's heaps of other stunning places to visit in the northeast too. I love visiting (mainly by cycling...) If you are into pretty places and scenery, this area of the country is like God's playground!
My hometown. I was in the cloisters scene from the first HP movie as I attended the school just next to the cathedral. Durham will always hold a special place in my heart. Glad you enjoyed your visit!

Beautifully said John! Our favourite regions are Yorkshire and North East for road trips and exploring the beautiful countryside or villages along the way :) 💚 Just noted down the North Yorks for the next journey!
I'm born and bred in Durham City 😊 Durham Cathedral is amazing, especially at Christmas! They do a tree lighting service which is so beautiful, especially when the choir sings by candlelight in the darkness. Also, its not just Harry Potter that was filmed in the Cathedral, Marvels Avengers Infinity War was too! Im sure there have been a few other films filmed here but the most recent 'big' film would be the Avengers film 😊
We believe that the atmosphere during Christmastime must be absolutely magical! Would be a great idea to actually come back and capture it on the camera 🎄✨ The Cathedral has such a huge potential so we're not surprised it was filmed in other movies but had no idea about it so thank you so much for sharing!!!
In the Cathedral when you mentioned Harry Potter. On the wooden roof you can find the Washington coat if arms, which is now the USA presidential seal ❤ from Northeast England ❤️
Durham is a lovely little place. The cathedral has a lot more that you missed because of the service. You can stay in the castle when the students are not there, although it is basic student accommodation. The Oriental museum is worth a visit, it is very small as far as museums go but it packs in a lot of quality rather than quantity. There is another small museum on the palace green between the castle and cathedral which has a couple of nice pieces but small. The walk along the river has some lovely views of the cathedral. If you want to walk further afield, then upstream from the river will take you to Shincliffe and Butterby wood which has an incredible display of wildflowers in early June. If you walk downstream passed the prison, it will take you to Finchale Priory. Slightly south in the city, is Observatory Hill which offers great views of the Cathedral. Behind the station is Wharton Park which also offers great views of the city. At the university library on South Road you'll find a geological map of the UK which is interest for rockhound nerds like me. On Church Street you will find one of the creepiest children's parks in the UK, built on top of a graveyard. If you hit on the right day, you can visit inside Durham town hall which is a lovely little space. A short bus ride away is Ushaw.
Are the botanical gardens still going? I remember visiting years ago and seeing a living specimen of the worlds biggest moth and it was the size of a magpie!
We love comments like this because in our vlog we can only capture certain things but when a local shares the insights like this, it would enrich people's visit to this beautiful time! And next time we would exactly know what to do not to miss the hidden gems :) Thank you so much!
This is the way how we love our scones 🧁🍓 And we had such a pleasant afternoon on the boat! Something completely different when you’re visiting Durham to add on the list!
Should have just walked down to riverside by the first bridge and done a circular river walk round the outside of city. Durham is strategical placed in a loop of the river Wear.
Glad you loved the city! Shame you aren't here this Saturday ! It is the Durham Miners Gala! That is a scene to behold! All of the county comes with banners, bands, pageantry to the centre! Great video!
Thank you so much John for your kind words ❤️❤️ We plan to continue our travels for as long as possible, so we are also happy to get along as a team and as a couple! Hope you'll enjoy watching the rest of the UK series and then our second big Asia adventure!
You are right, the north east is definitely underated. Highly recommend the Northumberland coast, especially Bamburgh with the castle in the sand dunes😊
We like to stay in the seaside village of Sands End (near Scarborough). The 3-star Dunsley Hall Country House Hotel is reasonably priced. We have booked in for one night (Sept. 27th). Two adults and one dog. £119, including 3-course evening dinner, breakfast; double bed, bathroom, kitchenette, sitting-room. Prices may vary depending on time of year. We benefit by taking the dog, because for the extra £10 (included above) we have one of the two lodges for dog owners, which we prefer to the rooms in the main building. Car needed.
Durham cathedral from the river is absolutely beautiful, surrounded in a sea of lush green trees.❤ Karolina, that liqurice tea will help your digestion too🎉The Market hall was where they would buy and sell livestock in years past. Hope you liked the Durham accent and hospitality 😮
We absolutely loved that sunny day out in Durham 🌞 Couldn't started the morning better than going on top of the Cathedral but we also liked just leisurely strolling around the city :) I love Licorice & Peppermint Tea from PUKKA (it's my fave!) so I couldn't resist trying this one and it was delish! 🫐🫖 We liked everything about Durham - people, atmosphere, tiny coffee shops, boats on the river and the medieval vibes!
We eat it the other way round but need to try your way soon! Anyways, the combination of jam + clotted cream is best so either way it would be delicious 😍
Thank you both for your great travelogues. I am so glad you loved Durham City , it truly is a Gem! An observation - "scone" rhymes with "gone" and "one". Scone , is a big stone in the Crown's throne I think? and rhymes with " moan" and "stone". The whole of old Northumbria, which includes Durham and Northumberland is a real Gem!
Places to visit next time in the Northeast. Alnwick including Barter Books the castle , gardens and lilidorei. Beamish museum. South Shields where I am from for the lovely beach and parks.
I live not far away from Durham and love it, especially the Cathedral. We have been to the Cathedral a few times for concerts and its fantastic, especially at Christmas x
Great video guys. I went to university in Nottingham Jay. I also went to Durham. I lived opposite the St mary the less church. That was our college chapel. My sister lived there when I was young. The pedestrianised roads you were walking on were busy roads back then as there was no other way across the river.
Oh, how cool! One of my best mates went to Durham university too - it was 100% way different compared to current times 😜 I'm glad they made it fully a zone for pedestrians because it's so nice to walk around!
Oh we really did! We didn't expect it to be so peaceful and charming with such a robust Cathedral! We've heard really good opinions about the city but it really did exceed our expectations 😍
great to see you in my part of the world, i live in the county of durham, in one of the old mining villages, it is underaated, was a better place before the mines closed and the manufacturing industry was shut down in the 90's
We absolutely loved strolling around Durham city and in a way it felt so peaceful and brought us into this kind of a medieval atmosphere! Why was it better back in a day? Probably more quiet, so there wasn't so many tourists :)
@@seanmc1351 Better with stinking filthy industry? No better without it. It was grim in those 'good old days', the pit villages miserable, & the work hard & deadly.
Dam I said this aswell along with the avengers for Thor bit I’m not sure if it’s the whole castle or the grass In the middle on the second Harry Potter tho that’s what I heard
The city itself was super charming but the highlight is definitely the Durham Cathedral 🏰 Actually standing especially at the backyard really reminded us of the HP scenes so we truly loved it!!! ✨🧙♀️🪄
Jay- I can't believe you never tried Fentimans Dandelion and Burdock. They are available just about everywhere, especially National Trust tearooms. I would love the black currant, but Karolina can keep the licorice, haha. Have you two ever been to Beamish? If not, you absolutely MUST.
I think I tried it a very long time ago! Probably when I was a kid and thought it was too herbally but I really like it now haha. Yeah I'm not a big fan of liquorice either - she has it in her tea all the time! We really want to go to Beamish just hoping we find a good day to go there as the weather is up and down!
YES! It's a big move and since we're equally contributing to the channel we thought that it would be nice to name it after both our names :) In this way hopefully people will also remember us better! Thanks for checking up on us Amy 🤩 We're currently in the UK chasing the good weather because it seems like this summer is going to be pretty wet haha. But we're loving our filming days here ❤️ So hope you'll enjoy watching some of the episodes too!
It's great to see you've found something good to present. The delivery jobs become so bad now i can't make a living anymore. I think you should give bicycle touring a chance. You can do 100 miles of travelling a day, and do bike stuff.
Sorry to hear that :( We've always wanted to travel so we started this channel a year ago and it became very successful! Maybe there's anything that you could start on the side and decide later on it is beneficial for you? Who knows - it's always worth trying :)
Topping the scone is a big bone of contention in Devon and Cornwall. The former top with jam and the latter cream. My own view - whatever suits but perhaps try both eh.
Mmmmm, we've never been around these regions of the UK together but we're definitely going to consider it for filming this summer! We like the put the cream first but I guess, as you've just said, it depends on people's preferences - the most important is to put a THICK layer of butter/clotted cream for the taste 😍🧈🧁
If you had gone on to the riverside walk you saw to your right from Framwelgate Bridge, you would have passed the weir where you get THE best view of the cathedral. You could have then crossed Prebends Bridge and approached the cathedral through South Bailey gate.
Fun fact:the grass area in the castle was filmed for Harry Potter and some parts was filmed the for the avengers I believe it was the castle from endgame with Thor going back to see his mother
I just found your channel - you guys are such poppets! So cute! I went to uni in Durham about 30 years ago and now live in Newcastle so am going to head on over to that video next.
Welcome!!! Thank you very much! We try to be as natural as possible, but at the same time a bit informative to give you a sense of the best value from your watching and keep you entertained :) We really enjoyed both Newcastle and Durham, even though they are right next door to each other, the atmosphere is very different!
The Harry potters films mentioned was the first and 2nd films not the 1st and 4th ones as was said in the video, love the videos keep up the excellent videos
I’m from Opole! It’s in the south of Poland - pretty much in between Kraków and Wrocław :) We really loved that day out in Durham! The atmosphere alone in this city was magical ✨ Not to mention the architecture and monuments!
If you want to see a Cathedral, go to York Minster, the largest & most spectacular in northern Europe. Durham is a City because of the Cathedral. In the old days having a Cathedral made the place a City, not just a town. Durham Cathedral is 1000 years old. Some towns have been made cities in modern times have had their main church elevated to Cathedral status, though not all have done this. A Cathedral is the Church of a Bishop, in Durham it was a Prince Bishop. He had the right to raise an army to defend the north of England against the Scots, who were often at war with the English. Only 2 Cities have Archbishops, who are in charge of all the others, these are Canturbury, because London was enemy territory when the Church was first set up in England, the other was York, who was Archbishop for the northern part of England. This was designated by Pope Gregory in 598 AD, when he sent Augustine to convert the English, because York had been the Capital of the Roman Province of northern Britannia in ancient days. This is another reason why York has such a large Cathedral, Minster being an old English word for an important church, related to the word Monastery.
@@alanbrooke5006 Yes I know Durham Cathedral is great. I did my Degree at Cuthbert's Durham University. It has Norman power & grandeur, but York Minster is more spectacular in its Gothic splendor, & it is the head church of northern England, having the only Metropolitan Archbishop except for Canterbury, as designated by Pope Gregory when he sent Augustine to Britain in 598AD. The Archbishop of Canterbury was meant for London, but that city was barred to him at that time, so they had to settle on Canterbury, the lead town of the Kent King.
Durham cathedral is the most spectacular Romanesque building surviving in Western Europe, even the very early Gothic additions hardly detract from its solid majesty. York with its Gothic technology was re-built two centuries later, and the amazing building it is, it still competes with many dozens as the greatest Gothic cathedral.
@@fishboy3626 But the latest built parts of Durham Cathedral, like the upper stages of the central tower & decorative elements, are no older than similar parts of York Minster. All these churches added, or rebuilt, parts in the latest style throughout their history. Durham just wasn't rich enough to do a full update job as York did, but added a few Gothic bits to the old fashioned Norman structure.
It really is a very charming place! We felt as if we were in a bygone era, and walking through the streets we felt a sense of calm. Only the large number of students contributes to the fact that it is also a city for the young :)
Climbing to the top of Durham cathedral main tower is exhausting however fit you are, the worst thing to do is to rush the first few hundred steps as you'll still only be half way. But the views are so worth the effort.
I would be very surprised if Durham was relatively unknown around the world as the castle and cathedral peninsula is a world heritage site, as is Hadrians Wall further north!
Well much of England is submerged by the over profile of London to the World in most publicity Worldwide. Many tourists never get to see the real England because of the London bias. So tourists go to London and believe they have "seen England".
It was a bit strange indeed - I usually drink Licorice & Peppermint tea from PUKKA (it's my favourite!!) but this one was very nice too! Loved both them homemade scones too 🥰🧁
Them views are really with the climb :) But also the Cathedral itself is stunning so it's nice that you can contribute somehow to all the restoration efforts!
the market hall which is quite traditional through the north east, every vendor has to be different, you cant be the same, stops the competition side of stuff, as well as giving the public choice
Chhaya is also a city in Gujarat. It would be interesting to see you and Karolina visiting a city which has the same surname as you. I’m guessing your ancestors probably came from there, hence your surname.
@@NS_MeatFarmIf your talking about living right in the middle of the city where they are there is nowhere to live lol. Its just shops. The suburbs like Gilesgate, Sherburn Road which are 1 mile away are full of people on the dole living in council houses. Not everyone but a lot. Durham just sounds posh cos of all the students talking over the place.
My favourite view up on Durham cathedral tower was the prison, looking at all the prisoners working round in circles. OK maybe I a little dark but still interesting.
North east is under rated 100% the history, architecture, night life is just the best in England. Lots of roman heritage that you didn't get to in your Newcastle vlog. Durham isn't the cheapest of places, but all around County Durham you have the old pit villages which is full of daft lads & lasses and the price keeps them away. It's a good place to go for a night out though. Plenty pubs
We were actually wondering what would be the property prices up North around Newcastle/Durham :) Still probably more affordable compared to down the South!

I'm from Durham City. I completely agree with you about the NE being underrated. Unfortunately, Durham City is dead. There's no shops of note, literally only charity shops, pubs and betting shops, along with more drug users sitting on the streets than ever before. The council don't care at all about funding renovation projects and the police don't care about the crime and degeneracy on the streets. The people are lovely, as is the cathedral and a river walk. Durham is tiny, but it's a "Cathedral City", not your typical city. I recommend it totally as a place to visit. I do not recommend it one bit as a place to live.
I've lived in Durham all my life in a little village called pity me the city centre used to be good but it's massively gone down hill in recent years it's all about the students now it's just bars coffee shops and charity shops
We actually liked the mix of local people and students that bring the Durham city to life - when you think about it, it's amazing how it can be old and modern in the same time! (As long as the students are behaving responsibly because it wouldn't be nice if Durham became a party city 😳)
Ive lived in county durham, its a dump, darlo, spennymoor, ferryhill, shildon.........all terrible, my sister still lives in an eyesore called ouston, the only plus is that property is cheap, for obvious reasons, nobody wants to live there

@@stephenvarty191 yes they are still going but I've never visited beyond the entrance
We love comments like this because in our vlog we can only capture certain things but when a local shares the insights like this, it would enrich people's visit to this beautiful time! And next time we would exactly know what to do not to miss the hidden gems :) Thank you so much!
I think the rowing was very good, and you did right by putting on the cream first on the scone and then the jam
Sounds great! I'm sure people of Durham will have so much fun 🥳
You are a lovely couple, you seem to get on so well together. It’s a pleasure to watch you both where ever you go.
Totally agree! We would definitely need to make our way up North again soon! Thanks for the tips! Never heard of them places before :)
Now you should visit Durham when the Lumiere festival is on :) that's something special.
We've heard about it! Sounds pretty cool! Next time I guess 🤗🥳
Car needed.
I’m in Sunderland so know Newcastle and Durham very well, Durham is beautiful, especially on a sunny day
Yes! We loved just strolling around and enjoying the beautiful sunshine 😍 The city of Durham looked like a fairy-tale indeed!
So glad you liked Durham, a trip to the cathedral always cheers me up. I don’t live too far away, 30mins in the car.
We can imagine! Glad to hear that :) It was such a peaceful area around so we really felt like we were in a bygone era!
I visited York and Durham in February both Fantastic.1st time to Durham it was Lovely and the People nice.
I can imagine that both them cities can be quite charming during winter time 😮💨✨🏰
Durham cathedral from the river is absolutely beautiful, surrounded in a sea of lush green trees.❤
Karolina, that liqurice tea will help your digestion too🎉The Market hall was where they would buy and sell livestock in years past. Hope you liked the Durham accent and hospitality 😮
We absolutely loved that sunny day out in Durham 🌞 Couldn't started the morning better than going on top of the Cathedral but we also liked just leisurely strolling around the city :)
I love Licorice & Peppermint Tea from PUKKA (it's my fave!) so I couldn't resist trying this one and it was delish! 🫐🫖
We liked everything about Durham - people, atmosphere, tiny coffee shops, boats on the river and the medieval vibes!
@@JayandKarolina Good and thankyou ☺️ please tell your friends there is an England outside London🤙👍
Cream teas jam should go on scones first then the clotted cream on the top to get smothered in the cream xxx just a thoughtxx
Thanks for the tips! Sounds great! We’d need to definitely make our way up once again this summer 🤩🌞
Not the pink panther joke... my dad tells that to everyone. It's the North East's worst dad joke 😂
Hahaha and it fell for it 😂😂😂
I live not far away from Durham and love it, especially the Cathedral. We have been to the Cathedral a few times for concerts and its fantastic, especially at Christmas x
We can imagine! How nice! The atmosphere must be very festive around that time of the year!!! ✨🎄
I hope you guys enjoyed our fantastic County Durham ❤
Oh we really did! We didn't expect it to be so peaceful and charming with such a robust Cathedral! We've heard really good opinions about the city but it really did exceed our expectations 😍
I am so pleased you guys enjoyed our city be happy be safe
great to see you in my part of the world, i live in the county of durham, in one of the old mining villages, it is underaated, was a better place before the mines closed and the manufacturing industry was shut down in the 90's
Durham - very cute, kind of medieval city ☺️ The Durham Cathedral… love it!!! 🙏🏻❤ I am not surprise HP was filmed there! 👀
I live 14 miles outside of Durham one of my favourite places
I love st albans i recommend you guys to go to st albans they have a cathedral and the history is really good
Yes it is ..its a gorgeous part of the UK...Durham mag ..😊
Yay! It’s Jay and Karolinas channel!!! …checking in to see where in the world you are and you have like 15k more followers! Have a beautiful day!!!
I live in Durham, great place to live plus Beamish is close by.
Sadler Street, the narrow road down from the cathedral is where the first congestion charge in the UK was introduced in 2002.
That's so interesting! Thank you for sharing :)
I live in Durham 2 miles from the centre it’s a Beautiful City
If you had gone on to the riverside walk you saw to your right from Framwelgate Bridge, you would have passed the weir where you get THE best view of the cathedral. You could have then crossed Prebends Bridge and approached the cathedral through South Bailey gate.
Great suggestion for the next time I believe 😍 All of the streets were super charming though!
Thats my city, I grew up there, good to see you having a good time.
Yes, we truly had! It would be such a charming place to live :)
Fun fact:the grass area in the castle was filmed for Harry Potter and some parts was filmed the for the avengers I believe it was the castle from endgame with Thor going back to see his mother
It told you that in the video. There is a sign saying those movies were filmed there.
Yeah, I've heard about it too! But there's definitely a reason for it because the area of cathedral & castle itself is so magical!
Cracking view of the prison from the tower like!
It is.. I was trying to brasside n frankland aswell on the other side
True! Thanks for pointing it out!

Welcome!!! Thank you very much! We try to be as natural as possible, but at the same time a bit informative to give you a sense of the best value from your watching and keep you entertained :) We really enjoyed both Newcastle and Durham, even though they are right next door to each other, the atmosphere is very different!
Should go then on the day of the big meeting ( durham miners gala) usually first or second Saturday in July………
It would have bene probably very interesting to show but sometimes crowds would not be great for the video itself :)
The Harry potters films mentioned was the first and 2nd films not the 1st and 4th ones as was said in the video, love the videos keep up the excellent videos
So weird, I just happen to know the hotel reception guy. I keep bumping into him randomly around Durham and we go way back.
This is the beauty of vlogging - you never know what you come across next 😂
I live in Darlington which is the next stop after Durham .
Durham is a beautiful place
Thank you for your sharing of this video with us ❤
Our pleasure 😊 It was such a beautiful day so the city of Durham was even more charming!
We drink black tea, i have lived in the UK all my life and I have never been offered herbal or mint or any flavoured tea, black tea milk and sugar.
Where are you from Karolina? My daughter in law is from Krakow. Glad you enjoyed Durham.
I’m from Opole! It’s in the south of Poland - pretty much in between Kraków and Wrocław :)
We really loved that day out in Durham! The atmosphere alone in this city was magical ✨ Not to mention the architecture and monuments!
Butter jam then cream on top
Iam from Durham and have to politely disagree. Durham has such a bigger presence due to the location and they don’t take your eyes out to enter!!
York minster is a new build compared to durham cathedral
@@fishboy3626 But the latest built parts of Durham Cathedral, like the upper stages of the central tower & decorative elements, are no older than similar parts of York Minster.
All these churches added, or rebuilt, parts in the latest style throughout their history. Durham just wasn't rich enough to do a full update job as York did, but added a few Gothic bits to the old fashioned Norman structure.
I have visited Durham many times. It’s lovely.
It really is a very charming place! We felt as if we were in a bygone era, and walking through the streets we felt a sense of calm. Only the large number of students contributes to the fact that it is also a city for the young :)
Years ago The Market used extend to the outside with many more stalls not sure they do that now.
It's probably not as popular as it used to be in the past but hopefully something changes because it's a nice historical place indeed :)
Climbing to the top of Durham cathedral main tower is exhausting however fit you are, the worst thing to do is to rush the first few hundred steps as you'll still only be half way.
But the views are so worth the effort.
Yes, it definitely requires some effort but you can take your time in between because the views are very nice indeed :)
The little ally way to the cathedral is named windy gap
Such a fitting name! thanks for sharing! :)
The definition of a city is a town with a cathedral,
I would be very surprised if Durham was relatively unknown around the world as the castle and cathedral peninsula is a world heritage site, as is Hadrians Wall further north!
Well much of England is submerged by the over profile of London to the World in most publicity Worldwide. Many tourists never get to see the real England because of the London bias. So tourists go to London and believe they have "seen England".
I have never had Strawberry and Liquorice tea. A very strange combination ! I will try that with a scone when I next get the chance.
It was a bit strange indeed - I usually drink Licorice & Peppermint tea from PUKKA (it's my favourite!!) but this one was very nice too! Loved both them homemade scones too 🥰🧁
So glad you enjoyed Newcastle I'm a new subscriber.
Awesome! Thank you!
I love Durham ❤ Wonderful women’s basketball team!!
Durham looks wonderful.
It was such a great day out in Durham city because it is indeed charming and beautiful 🤩
Jam 1st!
I study on South Bailey. It is pretty special.
I believe so! The surrounding literally looks like from a medieval fairytale!
Totally agree with you about the protest tents. 😀👍
Thanks! It just did NOT seem right 😩
Years since I’ve been up the tower, great sights though
Them views are really with the climb :) But also the Cathedral itself is stunning so it's nice that you can contribute somehow to all the restoration efforts!
And they moved the man on the horse 50 yards upto where it is now to get more market stalls on.. Heartbreaking... 😢
Fair play, you know your way around Durham better than most locals. 😂
Thanks! We've had such a great sunny day out so it was a pleasure to go and explore 😍
Hi Jay n karolina... Is the luggage compartment safe.. What happens if it's misplaced or stolen?? Take care... 😮
We would say so :) Normally you don't have to be worried about your luggage on the trains in the UK!
@@JayandKarolinaya it's true but not in msia.... Plenty of scammers n thieves.. Take care
the market hall which is quite traditional through the north east, every vendor has to be different, you cant be the same, stops the competition side of stuff, as well as giving the public choice
That's a super interesting insight! We've found so many different and random stuff there indeed! Thanks for sharing :)
Durham is beautiful. Make the effort to go to the cathedral.
Yes, the cathedral was the highlight indeed :)
Perhaps a visit to Alnwick might be good the castle was used in the Harry Potter series. Lovely coastline to explore. Its a secret.ssh
Great recommendation! We love visiting Cathedrals around the UK because all of them have a different charm! Thank you so much!

It really is! The whole city of Durham is kept in a medieval style so it was super charming too!
My favourite view up on Durham cathedral tower was the prison, looking at all the prisoners working round in circles. OK maybe I a little dark but still interesting.
That's an interesting perspective indeed!
North east is under rated 100% the history, architecture, night life is just the best in England. Lots of roman heritage that you didn't get to in your Newcastle vlog. The castle keep is actually roman. We have the roman Wall up here. Beamish is the place to go you'll have a brilliant experience at Beamish do a whole vlog just on that place lots to experience up here if your in the know. 😊👌🏻
Well said! We really liked stumbling upon all the historical treasures just walking around them cities! And guess what: we filmed Beamish yesterday and truly loved it! Hope you'll enjoy the vlog too 😍
Durham isn't the cheapest of places, but all around County Durham you have the old pit villages which is full of daft lads & lasses and the price keeps them away. It's a good place to go for a night out though. Plenty pubs
We were actually wondering what would be the property prices up North around Newcastle/Durham :) Still probably more affordable compared to down the South!
@@JayandKarolina very cheap in the east of the county near the coast. Tyne and wear is more expensive.

@@andrewfield8562 It was all about the students 45 years ago when I was there, so it's not changed, but they do bring in lots of money to the place.
We actually liked the mix of local people and students that bring the Durham city to life - when you think about it, it's amazing how it can be old and modern in the same time! (As long as the students are behaving responsibly because it wouldn't be nice if Durham became a party city 😳)
Big up county Durham 1 of the jewels of the northeast
It’s definitely such a great city! Would say it’s a hidden gem of the North indeed 😍💎
Ive lived in county durham, its a dump, darlo, spennymoor, ferryhill, shildon.........all terrible, my sister still lives in an eyesore called ouston, the only plus is that property is cheap, for obvious reasons, nobody wants to live there
