There is no need to respect statements that are based on historical errors. The Philippine president should go back and read more about the history of the rights and interests of the five victorious nations after World War II.

I wish analysts and media will use more nuanced wording when discussing south china sea claims issues. Other than China, there is no country claiming sovereign rights on 'ALL' of south china sea, but only to portions of it allowed by UNCLOS. Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, etc. are only claiming their portions of the south china sea, not all of it.
So, sweeping statements like "Philippines will assert its sovereignty rights over the South China Sea" is not accurate because it's claims are only on a very particular portion allowed by UNCLOS, NOT all of south china sea.
