    Amazing, I have shot bare bow several times and had no idea how you were shooting so accurately until I saw this video. I would just look and estimate where I thought the arrow would go and it was a miracle when I hit where I wanted, this tab craw thing is incredible.

    Thanks for explaining how to set crawl marks. Very useful. One thing I stumbled upon recently that Yost tab users might appreciate is the Jager-Yost Artemis Barebow Tab. I already had (and love) the Yost Pro, but Jager sells a conversion kit (the Yost BB Tab Conversion Kit) that adds another level of comfort and accurate positioning to the Yost Pro. It gives far more comfortable and snug finger support than a ring could.

    Great honest review. I've had one of those tabs going on 8 months an love it . It did take a bit to get used to the moulded plastic an ring but now that im used to it i find it weird going back to a all leather tab. Youl be surprised how durable the kangaroo leather is. Cheers mate.

    I have been using the Fairweather Barebow Tab for a while now... another issue I found out that plays along the lines of the inconsistency between the leather and the tab plate is with the leather itself. I found the kangaroo leather to be so pliable that as you shoot through arrow after arrow and session after session you actually start to wear a little divot into the top of the leather wear it contacts the nock. This constantly caused an slow decrease of my crawls which slowly raised my impact points. Cordovan definitely stands up very well to this... much better. However, one positive for barebow... I found the kangaroo leather to grip WAY better on halo center serving than cordovan... a moot issue on power grip though. For me, cordovan and power grip is the best combo. Big fan of the ring though.

    I'm using a 3D printed plate ,veg tan leather and a layer of suede. For the marks I'm using medical white tape and a pen. Handmade and working like a charm

    I use a custom fairweather I built myself. Brass heavy faces with my marks cut in also leather is in line at the top.
    I shoot under my chin. So Ive made my nock point 10mm long and use that as my 0 for my site mark.
    But I can get 5m to 90m still under the arrow

    I love the Fairweather tab (for recurve) for all the reasons Jake identifies but yes, the kangaroo hide is too thin even with my draw weight (under 40lb) Solution: I bought a sheet of thicker kangaroo leather and the simple tab design makes it very easy to cut and punch a couple of holes to fit. Perfect and much longer lasting.

    • @TracyPicabia
      @TracyPicabia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use 2 layers. One original thin plus one thicker.

  • @andreask.654
    @andreask.654 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I much like the simplicity of the Fairweather tab. Thanks to the finger ring you can easily flip it over to e.g. grab a bottle. I am shooting it with 3 layers of leather, which doesn't last as long as cordovan, but longer than I expected. But no, the kangaroo is not water resistant. I mean the animal is, but not the leather. 😉 Another big advantage is that it needs no time to break in.

    Bought a Fairweather for Recurve with the metal plate, but like you, my knuckles are way larger than the base of my fingers... The ring stayed loose... I stick to the KSL tab....

    Hi Jake, what about using a lighter coloured leather and drawing a line where the string hooks? On that line you make your marks. Less movement when walking and more space for your thumb at 5m.

    Thanks Jake. Great product review format... discovering as you go. Was considering the Fairweather tab, but it would have to be really special to get me to move from my Black Mamba! Out of interest how do you find the bow feel in the bow hand at differing crawls, always something I've struggled with, even using a low grip?

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The low wrist helps heaps. I feel the difference in angles when I am furthest from where I have optimized my tiller to feel best. This bow is setup for 50m and in the deep crawls it feels less then ideal, but manageable.

    Hello Jake. As again, great product review. I was thinking of buying it as well but decided to stick with cordovan & did my own tab design.
    What's your opinion on heavy/light tabs btw?
    Also, lemme be captain obvious, but marks will shrink down if you'll get lighter arrows. I've got 270gn 3DHV arrows for 3D shooting & my current setup with Gillo GT' 27 & Uukha SX50' 40 lbs gives me stable 205+ ish fps and my 3-30 meter marks are slightly bigger than 3/4 of an inch (with default K9-tooth anchor). Haven't been able to check those for further distances, though, but pretty sure that I've got more than enough for 50m.

    For my traditional hunting setup at 45 lbs at my dl what spine would you recommend also would you recommend using the full 34in arrow so my gaps are smaller will be gap shooting. Ill probably be using around 125gn points with 13 grain inserts

    Has WA changed the rules? I thought all your marks had to be identical in length, thickness and colour. I haven't shot barebow in about 18 months so I may be behind the times a little

    • @iaincope5531
      @iaincope5531 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've just read the newer rules and the technical committee's findings. Two different lengths of marks ARE allowed but they appear to have to be the same colour.
      Just don't want anyone to get caught out at a comp.
      Great vid tho 👍👍👍

  • @jme104

    Are those marks on the tab legal for world archery ?

    • @mlap
      @mlap 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, only 2 different markings are allowed. Here you have a short and a long mark. 2 different, so it's legal for WA. This is how i'ts in the rules --> "A separator between the fingers to prevent pinching the arrow may be used. An anchor plate or similar device attached to the finger protection (tab) for the purpose of anchoring is permitted. The stitching shall be uniform in size and colour. Marks or lines may be added directly to the tab or on a tape placed on the face of the tab. These marks shall be uniform in size, shape and colour. Additional memoranda is not permitted. On the bow hand an ordinary glove, mitten or similar item may be worn but shall not be attached to the grip of the bow."

    Problem with finding the equivalent of an anchor point as a tab reference point, what about tying on a small nocking point to the string below your arrow nocking point and use that as the tab reference point?

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re not competing, that would be totally fine. You can also use your bottom nocking point as a reference I suppose.

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually some barebow shooters end their nock serving in a specific spot on purpose for a crawl mark.

  • @mkangasm
    @mkangasm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not first time when I see u doing this, but I have been wondering why you keep your tab so deep in your hand. With " deep" I mean that string "groove" is not near by tab plate, but really far away from it. This for sure will create some inconsistency.

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Far more accurate for hooks in my experience to not use the tab plate as a reference for anything, put the ring in the same place, hook on the same spot on the leather and you’re good. Using the tab plate for a hook is useless as the string bends away from it at full draw, “moving” from where you wanted to hold it. I’d argue that’s more inconsistent.
