    The James Norwood Guide to Zniper:
    For the Zniper users:
    Here goes, if it helps you, great, if not, you have my sincerest apologies and I wish you the best in your own tuning method. But, this has worked for me and I have mine dialed in now and have not had to touch it once since. 🙂
    If you break it down in this order, it should be friendly for you to get right:
    Step 0.5: Do not start this unless you already possess fully tuned arrows for your bow and you intend to shoot those!
    1. Obvious - you bolted it on the riser, right? Okies, if not I’ll pretend I don’t see you doing that first now.
    2. Pick the arrow you plan to shoot, and the point weight you plan to shoot and then nock that arrow. These arrows should already be properly tuned to your bow before now. Weight matters a lot here, and so does arrow length because that adds leverage against the rest. Different arrow configurations put different load on the rest magnets!
    3. Does the rest falsely drop if you bump the bow, or on draw?
    If yes: Tighten the magnet stiffness 1/4 turns at a time until that ceases to be the case. Don’t go crazy and overdo the stiffness.
    3A. Check your shaft centering against the plunger after any magnet adjustment and recenter it by adjusting the rest wire as required. Do this any time you change magnet stiffness.
    4. Grab some bareshafts for your chosen arrows.
    Do some walk back tuning and adjust your nock height up/down until your bareshafts are tuned properly out to 18m, or whatever your tune distance needs to be.
    NOTE: If you are thinking of trying to find your arrow tune AND the Zniper tune at the same time...you are crazy, give up now.
    5. If you notice any times during tuning where the rest is not dropping when you release, then loosen the stiffness on the magnet ever so slightly, and keep shooting some arrows until that stops, then go back to step 4.
    6. Make any final plunger stiffness adjustments to get your fletched arrows hitting center. At this point, you should now have the Zniper behaving with no false drops on draw cycle, no drop fails on release, and your bareshafts should be nicely grouping with your fletched arrows at tune distance.
    Some side notes:
    * You might be able to try lowering your nock height by 1/8” - 1/4” if you get the issue with the rest not dropping on release (This from Mr. Demmer)
    But I recommend rechecking your bareshaft tune at all times. For me, moving my nock point down at all ruined my bareshaft flight, but it was fine for John, so you decide on that one.
    * If you have a negative tiller on your bow, this might also cause the rest not dropping on release issue. I didn’t have this problem but one person I talked to did and he said removing negative tiller helped his tune. Makes sense to me that it certainly would help.
    * REALLY IMPORTANT: Adjusting the magnet stiffness at all has the side effect of moving your rest wire up/down. You will then need to readjust the shaft centering against the plunger and go back to step 4 above! If you change magnet setting, do not forget to recheck your rest wire height!
    Good luck my fellow Znipers! I hope this is of some help! 🙂

    install tip .....Make sure it is not touching the back of riser. if it does the flat part of the arm retainer hits the riser and will not hold up the arrow. Make sure you leave a little room so that it can rock back and forth

    Great video! Very thorough, and I really appreciate the clear, close up shots to go with your explanations. I bought a Zniper for both hubby and myself this past Spring. I'll never go back to flipper type rests. Znipers are totally awesome once they are dialed in. Improved my 3D and field groups and arrow flight so much. I just can't say enough about this rest.

    In barebow archery a simple plastic rest does the best job for me. Arrows bump on deep crawls and simple plastic has the least rebound.

    I just figured out the inverted Y after much frustration over the past few sessions. Even with the Y the clearance is quite tight. Just a hair either way will create fletch contact on the arm. A standard rest does not have the issue as there is no vertical part of the arm to hit in the shelf area. I’m still up in the air whether this was a good purchase.

    • @PointOnArchery
      @PointOnArchery  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can understand those contact issues and frustrations that come with it.
      There are definitely a lot of variables that come into play with different set ups and equipment as well as shooting style. The Zniper works well for a lot of people, however, it may not be for everyone. There are some shooters I know who are putting up some amazing scores with just a Hoyt super rest stuck to the their riser. Whether or not the Zniper suites your needs as an archer, I hope my video was helpful in trouble shooting some of those frustrations. I would say don't give up on the rest just yet. Try backing out the travel screw all the way, adjusting the arm as far in towards the riser as you can while still being able to cradle the arrow, plus the inverted Y set up. Other things to play around with are: vane/fletching selection, length, cut, and configuration( 3 fletch, 4 fletch 90 degree, etc.). For me, I notice contact when I have a plucky release and get a lot of side to side movement due to this. You are not alone with these issues, which is why I put this little video together to try and help others. Best of luck trouble shooting and finding what works the best for your shot. I hope this was helpful.

    • @michaelvandergiessen722
      @michaelvandergiessen722 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a good video on a piece of gear that there is limited info on. I checked for contact with the inverted y on my 3 4” fletch arrows that I want to use for indoor and things got better. Interestingly I did my best round with 2” 4 90degree fletch with different arrows bit that could of been a fluke. Although it was 9 points up. It’s true about tuning with a standard wire rest prior to using the zniper. It will save some grief.

    What a fabulous training tutorial. I was very nervous taking my Shibuya rest off as setting the zneiper looked very tricky, particularly as Im a new archer (8 months or so) and shooting barebow. You absolutely smashed it! I followed the sequence / protocol and it set up perfectly (for me 😉). At 20 yards my grouping improved significantly with at least 3/6 arrows in the gold; really encouraging! Thank you very much for giving us such a good tool. Cheers and a Happy New Year. Dave

    • @PointOnArchery
      @PointOnArchery  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Set it up with the tiller that you would normally shoot(positive, zero, or negative) then tune the zniper accordingly. Last year for outdoors I ran a zero tiller with no issues. This indoor season I have been shooting a negative tiller just over 1/8th inch. I haven't had any problems. If you are experiencing issues with the wire drop, running a negative tiller, take it out and try a zero tiller set up. Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this was helpful.

    Hi, i’m using zniper but having problem with bottom vanes which facing the riser. It hit the wire caused the vanes torn (spin wing). Any suggestion for me

    • @PointOnArchery
      @PointOnArchery  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, sorry for the slow reply. So I shoot spin wings also(100mm XS wings). Try pushing the wire in towards the riser as far as it will go while leaving enough wire to support the arrow. You will have to loosen the wire retention screw to do this. I have mine shifted as far in as I can, leaving just enough to cradle the arrow next to the plunger. Also, try rotating your nock on the arrow to get a different position on your spin wings in relation to the riser/ wire rest. I've found that an upside down Y shape works well with fletching position. Also adjust the wire travel screw out as much as possible to get the most amount of clearance once the wire drops. I have mine backed out all the way to the point of almost contacting the shelf on my bow. You could also try playing around with plunger tension. If plunger tension is too light, your arrow might be bottoming out on the plunger upon the shot, inducing contact with the wire. Also make sure that the center shot of your plunger isn't too far in on the riser. If it is closer to the riser than your wire, you might be getting contact because of that. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck.

I shoot the Hoyt Satori for hunting, and I love it. The best thing about ILF risers is that you could set it up with multiple different limbs, which gives you a number of kit combinations, and options.

    Would this rest work for stringwalking

  • @ravenshield56
    @ravenshield56 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey chap, me again-
    After setup I’m still experiencing a few issues:
    Am I right in thinking that this rest is higher than usual rests? (Certainly higher than my others I’ve had) - in which case, we would raise the nocking point higher than normal?
    I’ve had a bit of an issue with corkscrewing since moving to this rest- not really sure why... nocking point is 5.5mm above 0 on my bowsquare. You mentioned that the nocking point needs to be actually lower when starting out.
    Also noticed that my string walking distances have changed a little from my spig rest, My crawl at 20yds is closer to the nock- which isn’t great for me shooting longer distances as I’m point on at 30yds (42lb limbs) and shooting Portsmouth’s etc at 60+ I’ll be aiming at the sky. Slight negative tiller (0.3mm)
    Cheers once again
    -J

    • @PointOnArchery
      @PointOnArchery  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok, so, to answer a couple of your questions, yes you can expect that your crawls will change with this rest. Because of the nature of the drop away design, you will find that your crawls will shorten up, which can be a positive or negative issue, depending on how your bow is set up/ arrow set up/ tune, and what you desire to be your point on distance. My crawls shortened up quite a bit as well, but I get around this if I am trying to reach further distances by setting up a lighter arrow, or by shooting a shorter arrow to gain some distance.
      When it comes to the rest being higher than other rests, I don't find this an issue since the wire can be loosened and adjusted up/down left/right for arrow shaft diameter and tune. In other words the rest should be able to be moved to get the best set up on your plunger.
      With regard to the nocking point, most will find that they have to lower their nocking point to achieve a proper arrow flight with a bare shaft. Some may not find this to be true, so for them, and in this case I would say, don't be afraid to play around with nocking height in relation to this rest just to see what the range of effects that might occur, in terms of arrow flight. I also shoot a negtive tiller, and I have adjusted my nocking height very high and very low of zero to see what the effects might be. I have found that the nocking point will vary depending on tiller, arrow set up/diameter/ length etc...
      My best advice is to play with one adjustment at time(nocking point, wire rest height, arrow set up, tiller) so that you can track what that specific change made to your set up.
      I hope this has helped with some of your questions. If you have anymore, please feel free to ask, and I will do my best to help. Good luck!

    • @PointOnArchery
      @PointOnArchery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the vid! My hope was to help others out there with the finicky and seemingly tricky tuning of the Zniper. Haha yup, and it's not for everyone for sure. In my experience though, having three Znipers set up on three different rigs, I only ever have to fiddle with them during the initial tuning process( which gets easy once you get the hang of it), but once I set them up, I don't really ever have to touch them again. I have heard of some archers having issues with heavy arrow set ups with the zniper, which I can understand, but the zniper wasn't really meant for hunting weight arrows(450-600+grains). Most arrow set ups in the 300-400 grain weight should tune just fine with it. Cheers! And, thanks again for the comment!

    • @PointOnArchery
      @PointOnArchery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Changing up the weights of the arrow can induce a change in the way the rest reacts when shot, particularly when going from a light arrow to a heavy arrow. You will want to tune your Zniper specifically for that arrow you are going to primarily shoot. I haven't had any issues with temperature or rain effecting how the Zniper shoots. To date, I have had no issues with the Znipers I own and have shot for the past couple of years. Right now, however, I am shooting my indoor arrows on my outdoor set up, and the Zniper functions just fine, but is a bit more sensitive with the heavier indoor shafts. Its not a deal breaker, but if I intend on getting serious with these arrows for competition, I will definitely have to re-tune the zniper and the bow. I hope this was helpful.
