I went there while i was in LA! this is probably the best plane spotting airport, its so busy and there are so many great spots where you can see the planes land and take off.
I have an infinite amount of respect for air traffic controllers (and pilots of course!) after this. It must be one of the most difficult jobs in the world monitoring such busy airspace. Thanks for all these videos SuredT! I could watch them all day.
That girl working that ATC is amazingly intelligent......wish I had that job. I' m proud of her. i also like the men who do that job...sometimes bad things happen and they are all ready for it. Yes I know their supervisor is near but...THEY KNOW THEIR JOBS...EVERYONE would like to thank all traffic controllers and pilots for all they do....amazing people she can be proud of her achievements as well as those men
Excellent video! And thank you so much for adding in the radio traffic. And mounting the camera up front just makes it that much better. I wish there a bunch of videos like this on You Tube because I really enjoy them. Thank you so much for posting it.
Thank you for posting this and the other videos. I take a KLM 744 between LAX and AMS at least once a year so appreciate seeing and hearing what happens just a few feet in front of me during the flight. I really appreciate the annotations as it is sometimes difficult to understand what is being said. These videos makes me feel good about choosing to fly KLM.
@MarcoPalva. Do you know there was a time there weren't any PC's? Well in those days I got my flight training. There were only linktrainers, no vision, no 3 axis movements, only very simple computers. And nobody had a PC at home, they still had to be invented at that time. I am talking about the early 70's ;-)
I flew with "this" flight a couple of weeks ago (klm601 to la and 602 back) service was good, airport kinda sucked lol (the departure area didnt have many stores, food courts etc) LA was freaking amazing but damn it was nice to fly the 747, my first time ever :) Thanks KLM!
Did you know that you can see Union Station(Alameda Street), Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, Beverly Hills Century City on your right and on your left La Brea Tarpits, Rancho Palos Verdes/Long Beach/Catalina Island. Just before touchdown you can see the 405 freeway Hilton Hotel.
WOW! GREAT video!!! Not only did you have a steady, non-handheld shot (unlike MOST other similar videos), you also had GREAT audio... Including radio traffic; and no stupid music to completely ruin it! OUTSTANDING!!!
I love USA! As that Qantas 747 was on approach I just looked outside and LA is amazing! Comparing it to Australia, LA is so much better. Thank you for posting this vid!
@3:01 KLM 6-0-1 heavy LA tower wind 2-4-0 at 9er runaway 2-5 left clear to land. only took me 10 times to understand what the hell she said. wow lots of instructions from the tower. @4:11 it's cool to see Delta 1508 sitting at the end of the 25R, the challenger crossing 25R and American 1458 taxing to 25R. nice vid. I just learned a bit about ATC in this past 30 minutes. thanks!
@MyPilot747 It's all rubber. When those planes touch down, they first leave a good portion of rubber from the wheels on the runway, until the wheels roataion speed matches the aircrafts speed. The smoke you see from an aircraft that just touches down is an indicator that rubebr was melted and the runway got a little darker.
Another great video . If you ever fly into CYVR, can you please put it on TH-cam? I've been waiting for a good one of Vancouver to come on here for the longest time.
@ApacheCobra. As you go higher the air gets thinner. So when you fly 300 kts at sea level you see 300 kts IAS. When you fly 300 kts TAS (=True Air Speed) at 30.000 ft you will see a much lower IAS on your airspeed indicator, however you are still traveling with 300 kts through the air. Stress on the airplane is depended on TAS and not IAS. See Wikipedia and search on Airspeed. You will see all the possible speeds in aviation.
@Marinus1111. With some aircraft you have to wait till nose gear is on the ground, with the 747 you can apply reverse thrust at main gear touchdown. Vertical speed at touchdown? Same as your C152. Soft landing is at 50 ft/min. Hard touchdown is at 500 ft/min. Very hard is 1000 ft/min.
undoubtedly still the best job in the world.... you must feel so proud to step off that huge chunk of metal, look back at it and say to yourself that you landed it. Passengers must look up to you like a demi-god.
I love the video, have watched it countless times, however I can't keep up with or follow the hand-off to a new controller...can someone break it down for me what is happening?? Like most other commentors, I'm totally digging how the female controller at the end takes command and directs all the flights - she owns LAX!
Ummm...please disregard the last name...apparently my pre-teen son thought this was an appropriate name to use on youtube...I didn't realize it until it was to late...
Just saw this...seven years later! However at 0:26, the approach controller (SOCAL TRACON) instructs KLM 601 Heavy to maintain 180 kts airspeed to LIMMA (the final approach fix for RWY 25L) and to contact LAX tower at LIMMA, on frequency 120.95, (this point or fix is at about a 5 mile final to the runway, at the Harbor Freeway). It sounds like they switched from approach to tower frequency just inside the Harbor Freeway, at 2:17. Unfortunately, due to a lot of other aircraft calling on tower frequency, KLM 601 Heavy isn't able to call in until well inside of LIMMA (only about 3 miles out, at 2:54). Understandably, he was beginning to get a little concerned that he wouldn't be able to call in time to get a landing clearance, before getting in too close. Finally, at 3:04 she responds by saying, "KLM 601 Heavy, L.A. tower, wind 240 degrees at niner (9 kts), Runway 25 Left, cleared to land". He responds with "Cleared to land, Runway 25 Left, KLM 601 Heavy." After landing, at 5:04, the tower instructs the flight, "KLM 601 Heavy, turn right on to (taxiway H9) Hotel Niner, hold short of Runway 25 Right on (taxiway) Tango, which he reads back, almost verbatim (missing only the "on Tango" part, but taxiway tango is the next one in front of the aircraft, so it's pretty obvious. The important part to readback is: "Hold Short" of "Runway XX or Taxiway X" and "the aircraft call-sign". He is still waiting for clearance to cross Runway 25 Right (due to multiple departures off of that runway) when the video ends.
@DHMaNiAc770 The FD will only show you how to do the autopilot's work manually. The autopilot needs an ILS (Instrument Landing System) to find its way to the runway, which determines the vertical and horizontal paths to be followed. TNCM does not have an ILS. So you can use the VOR to get close and roughly aligned to the runway, but the landing is always manual. All the FD can do is give you heading and VS, which doesn't mean you'll land on the runway.
SuredT's channel has been incredible ever since I first found it through the Sint Maartens landing.. real shame if he has retired! Anyone know of any good channels with similar videos?
@skaterkiviman I think what you mean to ask, how do you become a pilot? Well in the United States, you can start off flying single engines, twin engines etc. for sport. Then you can upgrade that to fly passengers, students, etc. when you get pass certain ratings. You continue to fly and build up your hours, which eventually will allow you to start flying for small commuter airlines, cargo, maybe PAX, depending on the company. Then with more hours you can fly for commercial airlines.
Everyone pause at 4:17, now look at the parking lot (flooded) then look to the left of it where you see a DC3 sitting on grass, That, is the Proud Bird Resteraunt, the best resteraunt ever!!!!
@ajay999999 the call out is "Minimums" and refers to the altitude at which one should be able to see the runway. If however the pilot can not see the runway at this altitude you are supposed to do a go around. The minima vary by aircraft category, determined by the aircraft's approach speed. If you want to obtain more detailed knowledge I suggest you google following terms: "approach minima" "decision height" "minimum descent altitude"
@fearfulAC130 cos It's an ILS, which has a little triangle which tells you if you are on glideslope. Don't need PAPI, because pilots use an ILS as an instrument to cross check even when VFR
Hey man, I love your videos. I'm just wondering... I have my CPL and im training for my Multi right now, I really want to work for Air Canada Jazz ( First Officer) but do they need a ATPL OR IATRA and a collage deploma, or just high school deploma? And to work for KLM do you need a ATPL with University level, Please reply back, Thanks
Hey SuredT, Just wondering, do you ever fly into YYZ? There's always usually a KLM 747-400 that flies right over my house into YYZ on Runway 23. If you do and could make a video, that would be amazing. Thanks :)
I am well aware that there is a lot more to it....and the speeds are higher, ... but the view from the cockpit looks much the same as in a 172. The landing spot remains fixed in the field of view. Whenever I go on vacation, I wish I could have the pilot's view. ... Thanks They should have that on the seat backs......or do they now, it's been a while?
I went there while i was in LA! this is probably the best plane spotting airport, its so busy and there are so many great spots where you can see the planes land and take off.

That girl knows her stuff. Nobody is going to give her any grief. If they do they will get it from someone who sits behind a bigger desk
Agree, she's good, and she has quite a stressful job too.
Cool video. It's neat getting to see a cockpit-view landing. We can definitely tell this is L.A. with it's enormous size and thick haze.
That ATC lady is boss!
Your right the ATC ladie has a sexy authority to her voice, someone send me her Email address!
I wish I had her intelligence.....she's too cool
The best moment in flying in an airplane is when it takes off and lands. Truly magical.
Jeez, its a whole different language they're speaking. The amount of numbers that are made into sentences is wildly amazing.
Thank you so much SuredT. For all of us who love aviation this videos are quite an experience. Please keep posting.
watch it in HD.. it´s absolutely beautiful ..watch that cars on highway :) beautiful man..
Beautiful laninding! Thanks for sharing, always love when a new video comes out from you!
I've seen this approach many times but never from the cockpit view,How cool was that!!
Excellent video! And thank you so much for adding in the radio traffic. And mounting the camera up front just makes it that much better. I wish there a bunch of videos like this on You Tube because I really enjoy them. Thank you so much for posting it.
My dad and I have the same color circle like yours!

OMG was that great! I loved hearing the pilots talking AND the control tower talking to other flights. Thank you!
SuredT, you're awesome. You actually take the time to answer the questions from these people. Thanks for your time.
Beautiful big HD unobstructed view and a nice long time to relax with it right to the end. Much better than quick 30 sec highlights.
Good to see an LAX approach. Thank you. Welcome to LA.
Awesome visibilty! Thanks! I agree, ATC lady is in the zone.
It always a pleasure watching your videos. Excellent job! Thank you for sharing! Thumbs up!
Incredible view, I wish I could see it in real life.
That was amazing footage. Always love a great landing video.
Very smooth landing!
Great vid!
@henkvanderlaak. In the States it is. Certain ceiling and visibility criteria apply.
This was good. I like this video. It was neat see the approach to LAX this way

Thanks again for another great video! Please make one every trip ;)
Bedankt, ga zo door.
WOW! GREAT video!!! Not only did you have a steady, non-handheld shot (unlike MOST other similar videos), you also had GREAT audio... Including radio traffic; and no stupid music to completely ruin it!
OUTSTANDING!!!
Wicked!! Like it even better with all the ATC chatter in the background!
@TheKimTwister i still cant get over these awesome videos hope u get more best regards kim
Cool. Nice visual
Simply awesome ! Great view ! Thank´s so much !
Man I miss my commute so much (Anaheim to Culver City) that I got teary-eyed watching this =D
I keep coming back to this video I love it, I land just like this at LAX on GEFS :)
I love USA! As that Qantas 747 was on approach I just looked outside and LA is amazing! Comparing it to Australia, LA is so much better. Thank you for posting this vid!
*Cool & Lovely Landing Again! Cheers: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines! :-)*
poor people living in those houses below))
great video! i want more!

excellent resolution !
airspeed seems so slow in this (short runway?)
enjoy the weather Sured T ^~^
Woho nice! Need more of this awesomeness !!!
the atc radio adds so much to this btw
People dislike stuff just for the hell of it.
Great video. The ATC is a nice touch.
Sir all your landings are damn smooth seriously thumbs up x1000000000
the lady in atc is very intense. Great Video
This was soo fantastic...i would love to see more of these keep em coming...
I'm supremely captivated !

@PSVwally. I enjoyed JFK, old Hong Kong, St Maarten, Anchorage, Paramaribo the most.
@1053857 yes, but during any visual approach, a pilot will use every navaid available: vor/dme, GPS, PAPI, ILS
Great 👍👌👍wiew of 405 freeway. Missing la from New York.
Also in 2020 I'm inlove of this woman!
Nice. Looks like a very windy approach.
was that a kiss landing? it looked pretty smooth

@zurebacuba no, or the 747 would have turned left into the cargo ramp area, this one was passenger going over to west side to Terminal 2 (KLM)

Anyone know of any good channels with similar videos?
@TheResistedMWR The planes have a system that is called IRS, Inertial Reference System, like a GPS
Amazing landing
That flight controller..
She's good.

@TheKimTwister amazing
nice video! those cars along the 405 freeway remind me of ants on a trail.
What a landing!
another great vid, please if possible take also instrument panel into picture, looking forward to see next vids ;o)

Whats LAX like for spotting. That car park to the left looks awesome. I wish I lived there.
Great video, must be be best job in the world, total respect for pilots!!
Great & Nice video!
Do you always fly with that 747-400?
Nice video's you have!
Fantastic video, congratulations and thanks for share with us
nice touchdown!

@HerpaReviews You're welcome. I'm not a pilot, but I am studiying Aviation&Aeronautics, majoring in Flight Guidance and Operations.
Textbook landing at one of North America's biggest airports! Never fail to realize how big and sprawling LA is.
Nice view of Watts below.
Wow! Nice video! :)
