I saw Orion last night it was really easy to find because of the bright stars in it, but because I live in the southern hemisphere Orion is upside down in the sky.
I hope to see Orion oriented like this someday. I remember seeing it in the movie Moana and was confused as to why it was upside down. My long term goal is to spend time in the Southern Hemisphere to learn this part of the sky.
Hello Janine. I hope this year 2022 gives you the best. I have known the Three Maries since I was a kid. But now when I have learned how to recognize the Orion Constellation, I amazed and impressed how could I see the whole constellation in the sky. I could not believe it. I saw clearly the seven bright starts, even in Santiago of Chile, when the pollution is a problem, I have seen it incredibly clear. In Santiago never happens, but this month December 2021 has been the exception and it was espectacular. When I saw it I was moved and touched for all you have learned to me with your classes. Now, I am an Orion Constellation expert because of you. Tonight I went to my back yard and it was there. Beteljuice, Bellatrix, Alnitak, Alnilam, Mintaka, Saiph and Rigel. It was like being watching one of your videos. Thank you. I have grown a lot since you are my teacher:-) My best, Myriam
A fun fact you might want to add is that, if you project to the sky the Earth's equator it would come very close to intersecting the star MINTAKA. Another might be, the Eqyptians of old finding god Sah and ORION is the same.
Thank you Janine! Wonderful video! I learned all of the surrounding brightest stars, by using Orion, and didn't even realize I always went back to Orion, enjoying the stars in the Winter Sky.⭐⭐⭐
Great work Janine! Just before watching this video I was just outside reviewing my constellation lol I’m glad I had them all right! Orion is a fun constellation to start from to map the rest!
Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge with us. I will look for Orion tonight in the sky, and with that help try to locate Sirius in the Canis Major and Procyon in the Canis Minor. Winter triangle here I come.
That was super. I was never interested in astronomy till I started watching your blogs recently. I have a full version of SkyView on my Android so it's a lot of fun. Thanks loads!
Right now, Belletrix is the first thing I see after bright Mars in the east right after sunset. She seems to be a herald, it's not the only star there, just that first one that captures your eye. Then betelgeuse, Aldebaran Pollax, and Castor seem to appear instantaneously. Now I understand why why Canis Minor is known as the herald of the great dog, Sirius.
My first son is named Leo and our second boy is Orion I’m loving learning about this consolation it means a lot to me especially the winter triangle which I’ve been fascinated with for years because I’ve noticed it in my backyard night sky during the winter months I’ve even said out loud hi old friend before lol 😂 so this is cool
I remember seeing this constellation on march last year 3 times in a row and I was so surprised because I live in the northern hemisphere it was also really easy to spot seeing the stars of the constellation were most visible than any other
Awesome video as always, thank you very much for taking your time to explain this all and uploading this. At around 4:34 you said “zodiacal constellations are those where the sun, moon and stars pass through” but you probably meant the sun, moon and planets.
Great video for supplemental home schooling. We came home late one evening from swimming class and Orion was on bright display as we parked the SUV in front of the house. When I saw it, I grabbed a white board and drew the points so my 6yo could understand what I was looking at. She got it and stared at it until she was too cold to stay outside. Then we went inside and searched for a good video on Orion. We found this one and she watched it until she fell asleep. Thank you for a great video.
Orion is My Favorite Constellation! That guides me many other Constellations! I love your shiney stars Orion! And also the best to recognize because when you look up the sky in winter or late autmun Orion really stands out to you! And also the three stars ( orions belt ) can guides you to Sirius ( The brightest star in night sky ) And this channel is also helpful to me to find Constellations in a night sky🌌⭐ thanks Mrs Janine😊✨
First: I like that video. Your voice and the way it is narrated is great! Not to fast, not to slow and lots of good infos for beginners. But: For newbies it must be very confusing, that you mix up and confuse 'asterism' and 'constellation' throughout the whole video and mostly use 'constellation' in a wrong way. Quite every time you use the word constellation, it has to be asterism. There is one only moment @2:35 were you show the constellation of orion. The rest of that video you show the asterism of orion and the asterisms of other constellations, while calling these patterns 'constellation'. Sometimes you use the word 'star-pattern' which is the same as asterism, while constallation does not stand for a pattern of stars, but for an area in the sky, like shown @2:35
Great video again, and thank you so much for the starter guide. This will help me so much, especially finding Polaris, for my polar align for the skytracker, cheers.
Every winter I look at Betelgeuse at hope that I am lucky enough to see the light from its supernova reach us. I really hope to be around when it happens. Thanks again for the great content, you are the star ⭐️ for me.
I just got back into star gazing again and have been really enjoying your well thought out and well explained with how to find constellations and turning me onto the International Astronomical Union. I found the IAU's constellation charts really handy and they're printable charts of individual constellations. Great additions to a planisphere, which has them very small unless you want to carry around one of those extra large ones.
i had absolutely zero interest in astronomy. but one day, i heard on the news that mars is gonna be near earth this winter and we can see it easily from almost anywhere on earth. so i decided to go check it out and yay, so beautiful! but i also saw a perfect line of 3 stars nearby. i thought wow, what is this? how can 3 stars be so perfectly aligned? i thought it's some kind of major astronomical event and searched it up. turns out it was the legendary Orion. that's what got me into stargazing! orion is definitely my favourite
Wow! I initially pronounced Betelgeuse the same way you do, then switched to "beetlejuice" once I heard more people pronounce it that way... but Beh-tel-gaise definitely feels the best!
so in the summer we cant see the orion? because its on the other side of the sun right?? i can see the same stars every night no matter if its winter or summer. Who can explain this to me.
I believe there are a few. The hook 🪝 in Scorpius is identified as Maui’s hook that he used to bring the islands of Hawai’i up out of the sea. There are many variations of this story. There are definitely stories connected to the Southern Cross. I was trying to find a story about Job’s Coffin, but I haven’t been able to find one yet.
I think she still isn't familiar with the deep southern sky, but when you are, the best way is to draw a line from Canopus to Achernar, find the diamond-shapped Reticulum constellation and the Zeta Reticuli star system beside it. And seek very very dark sky because it's a 5th magnitude star almost in the eye's limit of 6th.
I don't want him to go. He so cool to look at in the night sky Crazy how Orion could of bin gone before humans walked the earth We can still see it but for how long
Star pronunciation can vary so much. I've definitely heard the version you mentioned. I said it that way to a planetarium guide, she told me 'no!'....it is said 'betel-guise'...so I started changing the way I said it. Check out my Bright Stars of Orion video...I do address this a bit. th-cam.com/video/gwhx58Wa-74/w-d-xo.html

It is easy to see...that’s why I love it! It’s big and majestic and I never get tired of seeing it.

Thanks for the beautiful video. I and my son were able identify Orion, Taurus and winter triangle.
I have not seen orion in .Split sky for two years. I miss orion. Thanks. 💓
10:22 - Found Orion's Belt in about 10 seconds, and then the Winter Triangle immediately after. Good exercise!
Here in India, during winter, the Orion constellation looks so cool and it's really easy to find , to watch . I look at it every night during winter.

That was lovely... thanks.
Wow I just found u. Thannkkkk uuuuu😮😊😊❤❤
good!
wow I learned a lot of things in this video I want to be your student
Loved it ❤
What constitutes the whole of "winter constellations?"
Orion, Taurus, Gemini, Canis Major, Canis Minor, Auriga, Lepus, Monoceros. Perseus is right along that border of autumn and winter.
Are any asterisms connected to myths?
I believe there are a few. The hook 🪝 in Scorpius is identified as Maui’s hook that he used to bring the islands of Hawai’i up out of the sea. There are many variations of this story.
There are definitely stories connected to the Southern Cross. I was trying to find a story about Job’s Coffin, but I haven’t been able to find one yet.

I Saw the orion the hunter like for 1 year and it was so common

I think she still isn't familiar with the deep southern sky, but when you are, the best way is to draw a line from Canopus to Achernar, find the diamond-shapped Reticulum constellation and the Zeta Reticuli star system beside it. And seek very very dark sky because it's a 5th magnitude star almost in the eye's limit of 6th.
7:04 did you take that picture?
No. I rarely take my own pictures. Still learning how to do it.
Orion (and the Ursa Major) is the only constellation I know and can find in the sky
I saw it tonight 😀😀😀
I see from Athens Orion every year when winter starts... Middle of September till Arctus appears Orion disappears on April
I am form India and see Orion today first time in life
Seeing a constellation for the first time is my favorite kind of news. 🌌
@@learnthesky wow
how do i find orion in the night sky what direction do look east west north or south
It will rise in the east and set in the west.
Orion is right outside my back door at the moment. As I am in Australia, he is on his head. 🤣
Living in the Southern Hemisphere, you gotta break your neck to see Orion haha. It’s like Orion fell over on his front.
I can’t wait to see Orion like that some day.
I seen orion many times beause I live in the nothern hemishepher
I am from the Equator, here Orion rises on it's side 😊
I'm from. Philippines..., my problem is how can I see Orion we don't have winter season here?😅
Orion can be seen from December through March.
@@learnthesky ah OK.. So why is Orion can only be see by December through March? Why not whole year
Never knew I could see a constellation from my extremely light polluted country(Singapore) I can see 1 and its Orion, though its hard to see
If you were born on June 1st-7th-17th-27th your Orion⚔️
I can pick out shapes in the acoustic ceiling. I should name them. Y'all will have to study my acoustic ceiling to graduate college.
Why is it always shown upside down 🤔
Do you live in the southern hemisphere? If so, Orion has a different orientation than up north.
@@learnthesky yes.. it is annoying when trying to orientate while looking at constilations 😏
It is difficult to find it !!!!!!
when are they expected to become supernovae?
I don't think scientists have a way to predict this just yet.
Interesting
❤❤❤ alhamdulillah brother 🙏 Bangladesh 🇧🇩 the great 👍 ❤❤❤
I don't want him to go. He so cool to look at in the night sky
Crazy how Orion could of bin gone before humans walked the earth
We can still see it but for how long
We should see Orion for another month. Ultimately it depends on your latitude in terms of how long you can see it.
To me Betelgeuse, Rigel, Sirius and Procyon look like a diamond If you were to draw imaginary lines
I like this. We should dub it the Winter Diamond!
Thank you. I'm looking for God up there.
Next time do Gemini Latin for twins
Orion's belt aka Revelation
Things I don't like about this video:
1) It ends
Even I saw an Orion
I thought Betelgeuse was pronounced as "Beatle-juice"?
