    Great fix on that Gearbox Chris n Rob 👏 Reminds me of the Vauxhall Cavaliers year's ago when you could slide pull the first motion shaft back through the end of the box and replace the Clutch without removing the box 😆
    Used to a real handy job.

    That selector fork is a classic case of someone holding it in 5th on the gearstick. Tbh you would likely have got away with a new selector & a mainshaft nut tighten but a box at £100 is a no brainer.

      @@VSTV1993 exactly. I cut my teeth in circuit racing & even now all these years later my hands are still in the ‘race position’ as you just never know when you’ll be put sideways. Liked as always! Someone I know has a fleet of jiffy vans going round building sites etc, and he got a bit sick of Citroen suspension parts wearing out, so now buys the Toyotas, which are also slightly bigger. Great ride in a French van though. Looks like that one has a new lease of life due to you two 😀

    A lovely move to demystify how gear boxes do their magic; they are not black boxes never to be opened, after all. As long as you have the confidence, they can be fixed. What a great job, very sensible to stop and check every step before moving on to the next move. Great step by step record, of how to bring the van back to life and upgrade it to fully fettled. I loved the jackpot moment, digging out the cash. Having fun at work, what a great day.

I used to use shoe scuff cover liquid on worn gaiters, just to tidy them up. It works a treat. Shame about the BMW, but it'll help lots more with parts. Top work. 👍

  • @paulthepill

    That was interesting, I had 5th gear go on my XTR and was told about tightening the nut without dropping the box out. I'm not a mechanic so phoned around a few places for quotes and came across a few scammers not interested in doing any work on the box but offered me a refurbed fitted one for £1500. I did find a honest garage who talked me through what they'd do, they did have to change the gear which they kept and showed me and it was exactly like the one in this vid, I was charged just under £400 and was well happy, the garage is now my go to for all work that's needed.

    I am really getting to enjoy all those little baby cargo vans you guys are working on and returning to service. These guys are carving out a place on my car bucket list. Those things are cute and cuddly little guys. Silver color really looks good on this little guy. I normally don’t like hub caps (wheel trims) but on these little vans, they dress them up to be quite spiffy. I bet they are economical, light and nimble little town puddle jumpers. Not something we see much of here. The Nissan NV 200 and the old upright Ford Transit Connect’s are the closest equivalents we have here in the states. These shorty vans are not often seen here in the states.

    • @misterthegeoff9767
      @misterthegeoff9767 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the minivan version of the same and they really are cracking little motors. 50+ mpg on long trips, 45 around town and the load bed is 6'x4' with the back seats out so big enough to do proper work. Mine's converted into a micro camper because that's just about big enough to stick a bed in the back even. Sadly they aren't gonna make it to the states unless you guys repeal the chicken tax or a domestic manufacturer realises there's a market for them. Even the transit connects only made it to the states as a loophole where they sent them over as minivans then converted them back to cargo spec.

    • @americanrambler4972
      @americanrambler4972 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@misterthegeoff9767 the chicken tax is not going away anytime soon. The politics of it is very very deeply imbedded in our congressional infrastructure to make any significant change to it. However, there is a bit of a loophole due the current USMCA (ex-NAFTA) agreements. They could be made in Canada or Mexico and sold in the US. Very much in the same way the Ram Promaster is made in Mexico and sold in the US.

      steer with our left hand & lean the

    Another outstanding video guys,although it is a high millage vehicle it was an easy mend to the gearbox pads and disc replacement ect.Good lucrative profit too.As regards the white BMW,a very wise decision ln selling it to a breaker.One last thing Rob,you haven't crunched the numbers on this BMW.

    Cheap enough little van for someone with a full test too! Had to laugh at Chris fishing for money 😂 and was that what he disappeared off to do when the new project arrived 😂😂
    Thanks for the update on the Beema 👍

    Same issue with my van 5th works, but snatches and jumps when engaged. At least its an issue that can be dealt with 👍

    Super work on the van and that should give a good few years of hassle free service to the new owner. Meanwhile Chris is obviously being paid sub-minimum wage for his efforts....scrabbling around for spare change - what's he like?!

    Similar with vw caddys when low on gear box oil no 5th gear top it up and hey presto
