Too much work for this old broad, but you two are great parents, getting those boys outside, exercise, and learning so much that they'll take with them into adulthood and to teach their own kids one day. Another fun video Jay....and of course, now I'm hungry again. LOL
Thanks Darlene! One thing Ashley and I have always done is make sure they are outside a lot and off the video games/tv. It's even better they are seafood kids and love eating crabs!
Good video, Jay! The Mrs and I will be coming over to the Pines in September. Looking to buy there after I retire in 2 years. Your videos are a great help and inspiration. Thanks for sharing them with us! Stay Safe and Healthy!
Great video - we always use chicken necks as well - love how you made it a whole feast. Big tornado watches across Maryland today - stay safe Brother / you and your whole family !!!
Thanks Jay: I have never gone crab fishing, but damn you and your family made it look fun. Good looking crabs and to see you take us through the entire process. It was fun We are in Sep. to O.C. Staying on the beach front hotel. Really enjoying all your videos Frank from upper Michigan
Thanks Frank! We had a great time and of course the boys loved eating them! Hope you have safe travels and a wonderful vacation! September is the best time to be here!!
Enjoyed your video. I crab on my old town sportsman pedal kayak. Pro tip.. if you ever lay a trot line from a kayak, lay one end, then allow the current to take you the direction it wants to take you. Lay the line as the current takes you where it wants to. Keep it tight though! If you don't lay with the current, it's gonna be a long day. Ask me how I know. God Bless you and yours. Take care. - Bill in Delmar, De.
You are the man!!! I was trying to figure out how to lay one and it makes sense how you explained it...I think I would have figured out the hard way. Thanks Bill!
Remember crabs are fast and strong we had one walk out of empty bushel basket 8inch crab also he cut a chicken neck in half with claw so pick up trap and dump fast and don't miss or he'll be in your lap with strong claws going for your chicken neck
Used to crab many years ago at Ocean City. Did it the old fashion way chicken necks tied to a string. Slowly pull them up and do your best to net them. It was a good time though.
JO #2 is what the crabs want to be cooked in! Tech tip, when pulling the traps, don’t coil the line in your left hand, pull the buoy across your body and bring the trap up hand over hand. This will prevent tangles that could lose your trap. Just place the trap back in the water on the same side you put the buoy (moving across your body keeps the trap from catching and tangling the buoy). Good luck!
My favorite food in the world! So much so, I have a blue crab tattoo, lol! I've never had the JO seasoning, always been and Old bay guy, you got me curious now 😂 I'll have to see if we have it in the grocery store here or I might have to order it online.
A blue crab tattoo?!?! THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!! Definitely check out JO, it's the best on crabs. Old Bay is awesome on everything else, even popcorn, but you can't beat JO on crabs.
@ReelJayB Old bay on popcorn is really good! I love the Old Bay and Caramel popcorn from Fisher's. The combo doesn't sound good together, but it works! Old Bay on corn, potatoes, etc.
This time of year they are all local from either our waters or around Hoopers Island. They won't start flying them in until crabbing season ends in (I believe) October.
while on vacation every summer in Ocean City MD I go crabbing off a foot bridge just off our hotel. For last 15 years for some reason lucky to get 1 legal size crab for every 20 that I trap. Always throw them right back.
Go a little deeper when it’s warmer. It looked like you were using scrap chicken bones. I always use a whole drumstick with all the meat on it. Great video looks like a great dinner!
Bay Country Crabbing Supply in Edgewater, but there is a new crabbing supply store near me, called Kohr Crabbing Supplies that sells them. At the time my only option to buy them was Bay Country.
Thanks! I was only expecting 1 or 2 keepers, so I was shocked at how many we got! JO is what is mainly used at the restaurants when you order crabs. Old Bay isn't as salty and is used for all types of seafood.
Love the videos man! Headed down to OC next week. Two questions if you don’t mind. Who do you recommend as far as head boats in the bay to take my kids, I know there are several so curious if you recommend any. Also what is the best tide for fishing in the bay? Thanks keep up the good content👍
Hope you have a great time!!! Fishing with kids can be a challenge on boats, if they are younger, I would suggest the Tortuga, Miss Ocean City or Bay Bee. Those 3 boats have a little more room for kids. Happy Hooker and Flounder Pounder are 2 other good ones, but they are a bit more packed in, so taking smaller kids may be a bit of a challenge. For reference, my boys are 7 and 8 so the Tortuga, Miss OC or Bay Bee would be perfect for them. Fishing the tides....I always try the last 2 hours of the outgoing and the first 2 hours of the incoming. If you don't have 4 hours to spend, just pick 2 hours of either incoming or outgoing. The ocean water has been pretty dirty lately, so the outgoing may be the way to go. Good luck and hope this helps!
Thanks! Yes they are 12 and 7, the 12 is self sufficient and I’ll help the little guy. Both have experience fishing, just not on a packed boat with tangled lines😂. Thanks for the input, on our way down today, will check tides and plan trip accordingly. Thanks again!
When i use to crab and i used a floating crab basket i put the basket inside a inner tube the basket had a top and on the handle of the basket i tied a rope , you can tie it on your kayak,
@@ReelJayB yep those bushel baskets, make sure you get an inter tube that the basket fits in with the bottom of the basket in the water that keeps your crabs more lively and healthy, got to teach you and this is from a guy that lives on the western shore lol
I can't remember how the license deal worked out. I believe it's still $5, but only 10 traps. I buy a fishing license for my boat and it comes with a complimentary crab license so I never paid attention to the crab license fee.
I've heard they mate once and hold onto sperm and produce eggs several times in the fall at the wye we would catch 8 ince females alot of them but have to throw them back they were begging for j o
Awesome video guys nothing better than watching a great family out having a great time and sitting down together and enjoying the benefits of it! $90.00 A DOZEN!!!!......What does a bushel cost now, a week's wages AND your first born child???? 🤣😂I remember paying $90.00 a bushel. Great job guys thanks for taking us along see Ya's next video.
Thanks!!!!!! They will go that deep? I was watching the reports of the guys in the Wye River saying 6 to 9 feet. But if you think 12 I'll look for 12 feet!
@@ReelJayB . Anytime you can find 8-12 foot is a good area. Stumble upon a hole"14-16" foot within that 8-12 spread even better. Traps or Trotline start at 8 and string out to 12. They'll show you where their piling up at.
Yup! A resident is $5, non resident is $10. If you buy a fishing license, you can add it on for an additional $2. If you use hand lines or dip nets from a pier or dock you don't need a license.
It wasn't dead, I kept them under a cold towel. They will appear like they are dead but they aren't. The coldness puts them into a very calm state....no different than an ice bath or refrigerator like thr crab houses use. I'm editing another crab video, I explain it on the next one.
