We normally stay in North OC when we visit. I have walked past that place hundreds of times. I am so disappointed in myself for never trying it! I will have to rectify that on our next visit. Thanks for the reviews!
We finally got to try Uptown Eats' crab cake today. You guys weren't kidding -- spectacular. Lots of lump, well seasoned, broiled to perfection and a more than generous size for the price. And I NEVER "ruin" a crab cake with tartar sauce but their tartar one me over. Fun place with fun people running the place. Incredibly interesting menu. Will get back for their soft shell for sure. I would never have tried this place except for your review - THANK YOU!

Went today with hubby. I got the "JJ" which is their crab cake nested on a soft shell crab. Get it your way, fried or broiled. Their soft shell breading was perfection. Hubby got the "Tom Tom", which is a rib eye steak with fried onion rings and melty cheese, provolone or American. Our scale we rate it a 9.9!!

Stopped there last week. The crab cakes are incredible. Best i have ever had. So much meat no filler great flavor. Wife did the Cheesesteak and loved it. Talked with the owner , nice guy. Will definitely go back again. Told them i was there because of you.

Eric is quite the character. Extremely friendly and funny. Excellent place, he was saying he's known for the cheesesteak, Ashley and I were talking about going back some time to try it.
We got to uptown a few minutes before opening. The lady told me she had to pick some crabmeat before she could broil our crab cakes. Talk about fresh! The owner came in and he is a real character,totally engaging and funny

SoDel concepts is taking it over, they are a restaurant management company who runs a bunch of restaurants in DE. The owners of Mackey's said everything will pretty much remain the same, including staff.

Went there today. Eric was super friendly! Loved the guy! I got my crab cake broiled. It was good. I’d give it a 7. I ordered a broiled crab cake from Crabby Dicks n it was way better, like a 9+. Just giving my honest opinion and comparison.
crab cake. The platters have bigger sized crab cakes, but for the places that don't have platters, we get the crab cake sandwich minus the bread. the size is comparable to any other, I'd say abut 5oz.
That was a pretty high score for me. I feel like anything in the 9's is extremely high and near perfect. Only thing I didn't like were the shells in mine.

I really miss OC. I moved to Illinois from the DC suburbs in 1973 and haven't been back there or to OC since 1998.
Take a trip back! I'm sure s lot ha changed, but the same 'feel' is still there.

Absolutely the best crab cakes and soft shells in OCMD. Try the JJ (one of each on sourdough) OMG Absolutely FANTASTIC.

I prefer broiled because I can taste the crab more. Although when BJ's On The Water was still around, they had an awesome fried crab cake!

We drive by a lot too, we saw the sign for crab cakes so we decided to give it a try.
They look on the smaller size for me .
I would say about the same size as Waterman's. If you do platters, they are usually bigger. We did the sandwich minus the bread.
