The grind size I use is usually somewhere between filter and espresso. Wondering if you would consider the CafeSing Orca a decent grinder for this grind size and aeropress brewing?
I don't think you're being too picky - the best coffee is the coffee you enjoy! It's always cool to see what companies put out to try to improve gear. Hand grinders def take me back to the Good Eats catchphrase - 'your patience will be rewarded' lol
Hello young brother. One of the homies on the Espresso Aficionado discord has indicated his preference for the Orca ghost burrs for filter over such esteemed bangers as the OE Apex, ZP6, and C40. I just received mine yesterday and am still messing w/ dialing in various coffees. A couple questions for you: Approximately how many grams of seasoning do your ghost burrs have through them? Also, can you be more specific about the more developed coffees you've enjoyed from the Orca? Your production quality is sick AF, by the way.
Thank you! I tried setting up my space differently for this video and was kinda nervous about it tbh. Not a lot seasoning through the ghost burrs, somewhere between 3-5lbs. I've had the grinder for about 2 months and the brews seem consistent. I wish I had taken better notes on all the coffees tasted, but the coffee I was referring to was a shop blend from Sophomore Coffee in Baltimore. I had used that coffee in the past for espresso but thought it was too bitter for my taste with the Ode Gen2. Switching to the ghost burrs on the orca, generally the sweetness is noticeably higher with less acidity and bitterness. The cups are rounded out and clean with medium body. There's not a ton of clarity, but I am okay trading clarity for body and sweetness.
