CafeSing Orca Hand Grinder Review
CafeSing's Orca grinder ships with two burr sets that can be changed by hand without the use of tools. A ghost burr set for brewed coffee, and flat burr set for espresso. Is this the future of hand grinders?

I just don't get why Fellow won't suggest this as a troubleshooting and self repair option... regardless of all the other valid points as to why not trying to fix a $165+ kettle with a simple $1 fuse, it would likely save the company money on thousands of unnecessary warranty replacements every year (not to mention reduced waste from throwing out perfectly good tech).

I find that the SURFACE TENSION on the decaf is not enough to hold the STEAMED CREAMER - so it ends up falling right through and not producing the desired pattern on top. What can you do to change that?

I read too many complaints about failing heating plate, so I’m ought the stainless steel polished steel kettle. Then I got it and it is tiny…too tiny to properly center on my gas stove without setting to low, and waiting 20 minutes for water to boil…then I thought, Oh an indication plate-but guess what, in order for a metal to work on an induction heater, the metal must be magnetic-but though stainless steel, this metal that Fellow uses is not the right kind-it has an additional element which makes it non-metal. So now what? Spend 150.00 on a hob that many complain about, all the time? Well, I’m sorry but this product is Vheap-read CHINA!! My attachment to coffee and all-things-pretty slapped me in the face… Do any of you use induction plates for your Fellow Stagg EKG kettles? if so, please let me know. I already tossed a magnetic thermometer against my kettle and it isn’t magnetic-meaning an induction plate cannot be used…Appreciate any comments. Tashi Delek.

I think I need to replace the thermometer 😢 Any thoughts on this? At some point I started noticing small deviation. E.g. I've set it to 95 but it would go to 96 (when I remove the cattle and place it back). Over a couple of months it become worse and now it's critical since you can set whatever temperature and it will reach 100 (saying it's 83 even or something) and boil the water with its full power 😭 So I cannot even leave it and have to watch and switch it off to be safe.

The struggle is that most follow the SCA guidelines of 1:18. They are clear that is for large batch brewers of 1 liter. For smaller batches, moving that ratio closer to 1:14 and adjusting the grind accordingly will probably have better results.

So useful! I have a broken Oxo similar-kettle (my second), and I think they're less helpful than Fellow. Perhaps it has the same issue, and can be fixed easily.

I've always wanted to try pour-over but am put off by how much coffee you need. I use 10g in my cafetière and find it plenty strong so it seems wasteful and expensive to use 50% more coffee for one cup.

I changed the stock one for my ECM just like your stock one, for an IMS E6135WM fine wire mesh. More coffee got stuck to the IMS due to the stronger suction on discharge and also dislodged the puck as a further consequence of this. I also noticed that it kept the group so clean that my group lever started squeaking soon after using it. Today I put the stock one back in after only 2 weeks and it behaves much better than the IMS. Water even flows better from the stock one. Not as fine mesh as the IMS but I believe it’s better all round and the IMS exist as a money making exercise and are completely unnecessary. No need to upgrade. My lever has stopped squeaking after using the stock screen again so I’ll not both changing it again. Keep it stock if you ask me. Cheers.

Thank you! I have just got my first V60 and went straight to James Hoffman's one cup technique. I was sure I had the grind size okay. I had exactly the problem you describe - no way was there enough water to swirl the bed before blooming. Using a normal kettle so maybe a tad too fast a pour if anything. Have just (accidentally) followed your technique by pouring to over 90 ml before bloom. Worked noticeably better. Thanks for confirming this or I might have gone off down a dead end.

Fun fact, for those that find the STAGG pours just a bit too slow, If you look inside there is a little metal piece with holes covering the hole at the bottom of the spout, which further restricts flow. With a mallet and a flat sharp chisel or screwdriver it can be removed easily. It now pours SMOOTHER and just a bit Faster.

I’m having the faster drawdown issue with the wilfa uniform grinder. I’ve dropped it way lower than before and only managed to get to 2:30 drawdown. I watched this video and thought that’ll be it. Then I sipped the coffee I had made and it’s not bitter after a rest. Still sweet. More body than I usually have. So I will continue to make the mistake in this video to learn the taste now just before trying this. Coffee is wild.🤪

Any updates of how your kettle is doing with the new thermal fuse would be helpful! Im still kind of worried somethings going to blow. Hello David, I had a different issue of temperature going wild. I think the sensor contact might be at fault, IMO. I cleaned out the center contact on mine, and the issue hasn't surfaced yet. I thought about your issue, and it could have been related to the issue I had. Without a proper temperature feedback from the on-kettle sensor, the base unit will continue to apply AC to the heating element and it could trip the thermal fuse inside. Just some guess, but something to think about. Thank you!
