    You can also use serial pass through on the Matek VIDEO TRANSMITTER 5.8G VTX-HV to update the firmware by connecting up rx and tx ,but I don't know if you can do this while video and audio are also connected and it's installed in your quad? www.mateksys.com/?portfolio=vtx-hv#tab-id-6 ,I will have to try it.

    Help please - I bought this quad from a guy who said FPORT is already setup, not being able to bind to my Taranis Q X7, looking to the update the Frsky R-XSR ultra mini via this method, but it is not able to find the device using the Frsky utility, have a JB F4 AIO and on BF Serial Rx is on UART3, I can see that the s-port yellow wire is connected to 'Tele' on FC - should i use 0 or 2 in serial passthrough command ?

    My R9 MM won't bind. So I like to upgrade the firmware with this method. I added a switch in the 5V line of the receiver. I have exactly the same configuration in the Ports screen as shown in this video. But if I enter 'serialpasthrough 2 57600' I get the message 'Port 2 already open, setting baud = 57600' and the frsky update tool is not able to find the receiver. Any tip? I use the JBardwell F4 AIO board. Why is the port already opened?

No matter what I do, the update tool doesn't see the receiver. I'm lost. Anyone ever do passthrough on a speedybee? Am I missing something in wiring, uarts, commands?

    I've tried running it as an administrator and putting comm 1 to 57.600, but nothing.
    As I have the open drone I have disconnected the whole receiver to prevent it from being powered, with the idea of connecting it when the updater needs it. It's okay ?
    In the port configuration the UART3 is at 19200 and Smartpor is selected in automatic and Rxserie off.

    Just a note for those who have FCs that power up the RX [ R9 SLIM in my case ]:
    Disconnect the R9 SLIM cable > connect FC > Do exactly what JB does until he plugs the battery. At that moment you don't need to plug the battery, only the cable into the R9 SLIM RX. This will do the same effect, it will solve any issues of FRSKY update tool not detecting your RX.

    Frsky tool didn`t find COM port which I was using for betaflight (COM3). I workaround it by that I start FrskyTool and it found some other COM1 port, then I remap COM ports in windows device manager, at first other device remap to COM2, and then betaflight (holybro) COM3 I remaped to COM1. After this, I start with flashing procedure, do passthrough in bf, close bf and then connect battery to quad, after it FrskyTool (which was running from beginning) found my receiver firmware version... so I was able to flash new one.

    greetings from Hungary (a small country in EU).
    Just one question: does the whole procedure apply for updating the TX module as well? (or alternativelly could it work?) [I own a 9XR-Pro with an updated OpenTX]
    Cheers, keep up the good work!! :)

    • @JoshuaBardwell

      The TX module is updated by putting the firmware on the SD card in the Firmwares folder. Then on the radio, long-press Menu. Press Page to get to the SD Card screen. Navigate to the Firmwares folder. Highlight the .frk file in question and long-press Enter, then select "Flash External Module".

    Nice Video! I'm not having trouble updating r9, but connecting to MW OSD, I've got some crappy old backup backup backup Quad, which has the Flycolor Raptor 390 stack which has MW OSD R1.5, you're supposed to be able to connect using serialpassthrough, but in the MW Osd GUI it gets stuck reading or doesn't start to read at all, so I can't configure it, do you have any tips?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure baud rate is set correctly. Power the MWOSD at the right moment to catch the bootloader window. This is the hardest part. If you use an FTDI adapter it has the ability to reboot the device to trigger the bootloader window. But that doesn't work over passthrough.

    would something bad happend to the FC if i flashed the receiver with the s.port on the taranis while it still is conected to the FC? cause i did it :/ i have used servo pins to get it mounted solid. (just like one the magnum f4 stack) so it was very easy to just add the flashing cable to the top of the pins. i left 1mm poking out of the receiver so i can use a servo plug to flash it. but i noticed the s.port cable from the taranis powered up the fc also :/

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are going to flash via S.Port yes I do agree you need to disconnect it from the FC.

    • @Victor90NOR
      @Victor90NOR 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I already did it. Hehe. The fc made some extra beeps and it drained the taranis battery super fast but it seemed to work.

    Hey brother! I know questions in the comments are super long and inefficient... I have the XM+, your JB FC, and the XJT module :( And no friends who fly FrSky :( . Is it "Serial passthrough 0 57600" since the sbus is going into UART 1 as I understand it? Or am I misunderstanding things completely?

      SUCCESS!! THANK YOU! I was not clear on terms & meanings... Temporarily moved the receiver SBUS wire from the SBUS pad to the SmartPort Telemetry pad and it recognized & updated (still a little foggy on terms and differences; serial port vs. UART, SmartPort, SBUS, why serialpassthrough only forwards to a smartport and not an SBUS, etc :) THANK YOU! If you've got a power-over-usb FC (JBF4, CLR F4S, and Kakute F7 are some that I have used and confirmed the following for) and an Rx that uses a plug-in style wire harness that is connected to the power-over-usb 5v pad, then simply leave the Rx unplugged from the harness while you set up pass-through and start the FrSky STK, then plug it in once you are ready to write to the Rx. Works perfectly for me without having to change my wiring away from the power-over-usb 5v pads. Unfortunately for R9 Mini quads (including my own) being a direct solder Rx this trick doesn't apply. Just updated my R9 Slim+ this way and will be doing this for all of my R-XSR quads as well. Thanks Josh, informative content as always. Hope this tip helps someone out there.

      I think you must use the softserial interface number, not the UART3 number. This number exists but I don't know what it is. I've seen it before... I'm pretty sure you can do passthrough on softserial. But I don't know the CLI command.

      All I know is I read that you should update the firmware before you fly, and I didn't want to do a review of this product only to have people say, "did you update the firmware?"
      It looks like another firmware has been released on July 26 though. Maybe that's the one people say you need to upgrade. Or maybe it's the module firmware that matters.
