I'm not sure why you removed the boot drive when you could have just added the new SSD as an expansion drive. You've made a simple job super involved.
do u know if the warranty will go if i upgrade the SSD? i have the same laptop in the vid
@@qudsiabano2999 I think you'll affect your warranty. But im not so sure, maybe double check whether doing so you'll tamper a warranty sticker.
@@qudsiabano2999 you can install new ssd on the extra slot without damaging the warranty. They gave you the slot because they want you to upgrade. Don't worry.
But make sure you do not damage anything while upgrading. Take help from an expert.
What is a boot drive
@@bigboomsurvival iirc it's the storage drive where your OS is installed.
help plz...
what will happen if i connect my m2 ssd in the small spot any way?
even if its smaller?!
If anyone still has any confusion, no you don't need to remove the mini m.2 drive that comes with your IdeaPad. You also dont need a new copy of Windows.
So are you saying all he had to do was add that aftermarket ssd stick and that's it haha? Idk forsure but I feel like he's confused many people unfortunately. Noobs like me.. lol
@@devinrivera7706was that all you had to do? Because I’m looking to upgrade my ideapad aswell and this video lowkey confused me.
Thanks hahaha I was having that doubt, but now I just installed it without problem 🤭
cant i just keep everything as normal, but just add that new m.2 ssd? why would i throw away 256 GB?
Is it also possible to keep the original M.2 SSD and install the new one as an add-on in a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH6? I have installed the additional SSD drive, but the computer does not recognize it.
And: what type/size of screw is required to fasten the SSD?
Hope that anyone can help, many thanks in advance.
Yes you can install an additional one. Lenovo IdeaPads come with a screw in place for you to use to fasten it so don't worry about that.
As for not recognizing it, after you install it look for "Create and format hard disk partitions" in Search on your computer and use that to initialize the SSD and create a partition and then it will work.
@@MintXIV Thank you for the tips! I will try this next week and then report back here.
@@MintXIV Found the correct screw, added the SSD, and this time it showed up in disk management. Thanks for all the tips, it works flawlessly!
So... Why did you remove the original ssd? By installing windows like that you basically will have to reinstall all of the drivers.
is that even an issue? The drivers would be automatically installed anyway
@@maxthreshold Well, maybe it's because I've mostly used Asus laptops, because when I've had to format my laptops for whatever reason, while yes, most drivers get downloaded automatically, I've had to manually download some critical drivers from the vendor's website
@UberGeeks mind telling us about why you removed that 256 GB smaller SSD? Why not simply install the bigger SSD along with the smaller SSD remaining in the laptop? What was the reason for removing it?
he was just being silly
It's just dumb
Apparently you don't know what you're doing but okay i just wanted to see if this laptop had extra slot. Thanks fior that
Hey guys, can you tell me what’s the m.2 model of that small one @ 5:47 ? My ideapad came with a bigger sized ssd and I found out it has another slot for m.2 but a smaller one and im not sure what m.2 type to order if I wanna expand and use the other slot also
@noahd999 thank you man!
do i HAVE to replace the original ssd ? or can i just put another ssd into the secondary slot ? please and thank you
Have you found an answer? I also have the same question.
To my knowledge you can install a M.2 drive in the Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3 laptop without removing the original SSD. Its almost the samething as you would add another M.2 drive on A PS5 Console to expand its memory without removing the original SSD. Hope that helps you :)
ofc you dont have to remove it. ranjid explains it weird.
@@Tamagotchi808 but, unplug the battery is still a must, isn't it?
@@Tamagotchi808 so to clarify, I can add the new ssd card without removing the original, the storage will be added together, and I wont have to re instal windows?
My laptop cant find the ssd i have a litle one in my thinkpad gaming
can I keep the main ssd for windows and other stuff and install an M2 NVMe SSD for gaming on additional slot? btw I have an ideapad gaming 3 6ta gen, does that one has an M2 NVMe SSD extra slot like yours?
It sounds like you can, based off of @daveplaysgaming 's comment, which is the top comment. I was wondering the same thing though. The newly added SSD should just show up as another drive for storage I believe.
I want to install 2 tb 2242 ssd, can you tell me I can do that or not
Надеюсь что это не сервис , никогда быне отдал свой ноут такому профи 😂😂😂
can we install 2tv nvne ssd in one slot
I want to know what is the maximum space I can put on this laptop I want to buy a 980 pro 2TB but I want to install another 1TB more mm
Alguna solución. Estoy pensando lo mismo. Y si soporta PCL3 O PCL4?
@@jeanrivera4313 la recomendación sería 980pro Evo Samsung 1TB
@@kylevandertwins8071solo se puede 1 tera o normal si compro el de 2tb? Gracias por la info
@@jeanrivera4313 creo que 2TB máximo pero con un 1TB está bien realmente lol
How its called the small ssd ?
No.
That's not the way you make the video, you need to first do try it for yourself and rehearse finish the video session then upload, dude on screen apologies fail you...
Better luck next time👍
Whether there is only one slot for ssd. Because i'm same model
along with a secondary M.2 slot, is there a 2.5 drive expansion as well?
If you install the extra storage while keeping the boot drive in would it hypothetically add the storage space of the two cards into one?
I don't know why but my screws on both drive slots are extremely tight. Like I literally cannot move it at all with a brand new screwdriver and applying a dangerous amount of pressure. I haven't broken anything yet but I'm going to lose my mind with these screws. I have no clue how to loosen them
Cross threaded maybe? Or mixed up/used the wrong screws?
Would a Samsung 980 Pro with heatsink fit in this laptop? I ordered one and didn't consider that 😢
does the warrrany expire on laptopp if u upgrade the SSD?
@ahmad-ju4kp
You can but you'll have to use a thermal pad instead of heatsink
Can you help pls there’s like plastic coming out of my acer nitro 31.5 it’s like a telephone cord looks like plastic very skinny but long so I pulled it out but still some there it’s brand new what is it was it ok I pulled it out ? I can dm you on Twitter to show you a pic of it
I have the same laptop, but my original ssd is the long one, and I already bought another long one So what do I do?
Have you find any fix
@@mamedoff20 just cloning the ssd
my g3 lenovo have just installed ssd on slot 2 2280 can put in slot 1 one ssd 1tb 2230 gen4?
What is the size?
For the small one it's 2242 and the big one it's 2280
can you do a video on how to open the RAM compartment?
I'm pretty sure you just unscrew and take off that big metal square in the middle (i hope im right)
You can just lift it
Can I put it in exactly the same laptop SSD диск Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB M.2 Gen3 x 4?
да
Can a 2.5 SSD be placed? I saw that there is space at the bottom left.
No it can't. There is no SATA slot available, so only the small SSD slot is available
@@andreidrilea15 there are nvme to sata converter the only problem will be length since there is space in left of laptop and connector in right.
@@Harsh-do7uw I have the same laptop (15ARH7 model), there's no space for that kind of option. There's the factory slot, for 2242 SSD, along with the spare 2280 SSD slot. Even if it would be possible, that adapter would have to go across the motherboard to reach the opposite side.
I will be upgrading mine to 2TB & 32gb ram
I think you can only upgrade this particular model to 1TB just FYI. 32GB RAM will definitely be overkill. Probably best off with the 1TB and 16GB upgrade(2 sticks of 8 GB)
@@Chuck4677 OK. Thanks!! I appreciate your response.
@@Chuck4677 what would happen if you upgrade it to 32 gb?
Not sure, nothing bad. FWIW I am the furthest thing from an expert but I did a lot of careful research. All threads pointed to 32gb's being un-necessary if you're just gaming and what not. 32gb is good for things like intensive video editing @@swepttvfx5699
@@swepttvfx5699 I have upgraded it to 32gb and 32gb is definitely not overkill, it stops me from crashing when I play games like Escape From Tarkov. 32gb is the perfect amount, use crucial for a scan of your computer and it will show you compatible upgrades.
bro whats is the size of new ssd? If i want to keep two SSD on my lenovo g3i? can i?
