I once got to test drive a 2007 Porsche all wheel drive twin turbo for an entire day. It was a writing project for a luxury super car rental company in Fort Worth Texas. They had 2 Lambo's, Three different horse cars (Ferrari's) , and a few other lesser super cars. The red twin turbo Porsche was the fastest and easier car to drive. Versus each different super car that dfw drive your dream dot com had available back then. The owner of the company & car collection even felt the Porsche was tops.
I just recently became a valet and drove a few porsches. I now know what it really feels to drive a porsche 911 turbo and it is amazing, because it is a little bit low profile but a monster with acceleration and handling. I would choose this car over a ferrari everyday, but dont get me wrong, ferraris are great especially the f430 scuderia
i just realised how fast these guys drive on road..i mean in the day yeah..you can see things but at night...just watching jeremy drive makes my heart beats a million times faster
I have a 911 as my daily driver and, after 2 years of owning, my heart still skips a beat, every day when I see it. With Ferrari's I am having an increasingly hard time keeping them apart. Anyways, for people like me who are about the driving experience: Porsche rules.
I had a chance last summer to ride as the passenger in a 2012 911 turbo conv. at the local roadcourse. What a magnificent motor car to say the least. The think felt like it was on rails and unlike other cars I did not feel the least bit scared. And OMG was it fast!
@WhyVII Porsche's always posts slower times on their website. They say the Cayman S will hit 0-60 in 4.9 but Motor Trend Magazine has recorded 4.3 (with the PDK). Motor Trend also recorded the 911 Turbo at 2.9 and the Turbo S at 2.7 (also with the PDK).
Hey friend, we bought a Porsche 911 used. It was the older type with the big turbo ya hear.. took it up through the canola field on our far and did 80 through the crop because the crop sis on side of a mountain.. It went over and through the creek and rests beween two trees on the other bend. Has sat here several years now.
Oh, I'm totally with you! I liked it much more then any other car I've driven. The only thing I dislike is that it allows no oversteer. That said, I would still rather continue to modify old rear wheel drive Volvos. For far less money then I would spend on the various sports cars I've driven, I could build a very fun, good handling, comfortable sedan that's more then enough to scare the hell out of most passengers.
@Philmen then go to a track and listen to a GT3 RS, they come as stock with a rollcage , big front spoiler and a big wing. also the optional clubsport package from Porsche adds a racing harness , fire resistant seats , FIA compliant full rollcage and fire extinguishers while keeping the car street legal. the GT3 RS is a street legal racecar. the only thing modified on those GT3 RS cars is the added air restrictor which limits their output to 300hp so they can compete in Eruopean rally stages.
@MrMadpenguin, Yes, the MP4 is very nice to drive, but I have taken one to a track day and I think that the 458 Italia has something the MP4 does not have: comfort. The 458 is sharp and comfortable, the MP4 is sharp and sport.
@leoncarbon, I am italian and I am not defending my nation, but I met Enzo in a showroom beside a 308 GTB when I was 9 years old, and he said that in about 30 years they could make sports cars that you can live with, and since June (When me and a friend restored one) that I have a 458. You can really live with it. I spoke with a guy from McLaren apout the MP4, and he said that it's basically the F1. I know the F1 like my house and the MP4 is brilliant, but it feels like you know what will happen
@MatthewIndustries Really? I love the Beetle. It's got so much character, so much personality. Not to mention it's so simple that if anything does go wrong with it (unlikely since it was Porsche's creation) all you need to fix it is some rubber-band or scotch-tape.
@tasman763 The difference is that a rear mounted engine is behind the rear axle in a mid engine car it is in front of the rear axle and behind the front axle. Yes the starter goes into the back of a F1 car, but that is the gearbox. What is closest to the rear axle of a F1 car is the gear box and that is still not behind it. There really is nothing but the tail light and the rear wing that is behind the rear axle on a F1 car. It is mid engined and there is a reason for that.
@Nicolas141191 Porsche's always posts slower times on their website. They say the Cayman S will hit 0-60 in 4.9 but Motor Trend Magazine has recorded 4.3 (with the PDK). Motor Trend also recorded the 911 Turbo at 2.9 and the Turbo S at 2.7 (also with the PDK).
woo, i love that turbo, my friends father took us for a ride, i rode in the back seat, yes, in the non existant back seat, and went 120 no problem, with the top down. i was deaf for 20 minutes bc the wind was so strong lol amazing car tho, love it.
The porsche is the best cause my dad has an amazing version: Atlas Grey, 0-60mph= 3.6secs, the writing on the back is Cancan red like the interior! FANTASTIC!
I don't think it has scram jet turbochargers. SCRAM stands for Supersonic Combustion RAMjet. sound barrier is at approx 700mph (depending on altitude).
@Philmen WTF? what was wrong with the 996 and 997 911's? You do know, Nissan took note of the baratone exhaust from the Porsche 911 Carreras and put it in it's Z and G's right?
Somebody please put the Altern8 Frequency tune backing this video, goes perfect especially the night driving part with clarkson - would do myself if could but no cleva enuff
Italian Made: Even the batteries switch sides on you but even so you can admire the aesthetic beauty of the lines the same way others admire the crooked tower of Pisa. More form than function. Made in Deutschland: The Glorious Rear Engined Master Race. Perfection. More function than form.
911 GT3 RS ftw! I just saw one in the flesh at the garage when my bro went to get his power steering sorted. Made me want to marry it. Looks so good in white too. Who says Porsche don't make supercars?
I just had the honor of recovering a very early Irish Green 911 all original car #302226. After sitting in a barn for over 20 years it was up and running in less than 48 hours, a true testament to the great Doctors love and passion for the automobile. I have documented the story on my channel of how a 39 year old kid found one of the earliest ground breaking vehicles of all time. Happy 50th Porsche!
the viper acr has an unofficial time of 7:22 on the nurburgring, and the zr-1 has an official time of 7:26, and the gtr skyline is next, all recorded just this past year or so, these times r faster than all the other 911's and f430's(although im not sure if thats faster than the new scuderia, but its faster than the enzo..)
Right, that is why I said technically--because there are four seats even if the ones in back fit nothing taller than 4 feet. However, they are still classified as four seat cars which gives them a more favorable insurance rate.
@tasman763 No it is not! A F1 car has the engine in front of the rear axle making it a mid engined car. There is a reason why no other high end car manufacture puts the engine in the rear of the car. Because the point is that you want as much of the weight as close to the center of gravity as possible to create balance.
@angndev1 There's very few supercars that can beat the GTR. Check out nurburgring lap times. The Enzo has trouble keeping up and its priced at 10 times the amount.
@wcub4 Sure you can, just drop the compression ratio as you would with any other car you want to FI... I've seen a flat 12 testarossa and an F430 with twin turbos running...
About time that they upped the engine capacity to that of the Carrera S - I look forward to seeing what the new 500+bhp 3.8 turbo will do... More F430 spanking, I should think. Should also show the 3.8 Nissan GTR the way around the Nordschleife (particularly if the Porsche is fitted with the same SLICKs that the GTR was wearing on its fast lap).
like i said the vipers time is unofficial, however a major magazine was there and wrote about it, and theres even video of it., by the way the viper acr was factory stock except for a Racetech seat with a six-point harness...AND if u read the story on the zonda/enzo/mc12/carrera gt, u will see that ALL but the carrera and zonda had semi slicks! (if u dont believe me search nurburgind records on wikipedia, and click"discussion evo article" in the maserati row...
@WhyVII You don't have to believe me or third party car reviewing organizations, but it is definitely faster from 0-60. The fastest accelerating cars on the market today (3 or fewer sec 0-60) are all AWD, duel-clutch cars: Nissan GT-R (3.0), Porsche 911 Turbo (2.9), Lamborghini Aventador (2.9), Porsche 911 Turbo S (2.7), Bugatti Veyron (2.5). They distribute the power optimally and shift as fast as possible. Check out some of Motor Trend's reviews if you don't believe me.
@brendenn12 what are u talking about? The fastest time ever around the Nurburgring is a Porsche 956 from the old c group with a lap of 6:11, this have nothing to do with the 959.
@Omega08082 And what is your daily drive ? I am on my 3rd 911, first was a C4 Millenium eiditon, great car, then had 996 911 tiptronic and now 911 996 manual. Fantastic cars, can use every day and not be hitting the front end and with a remap will take on the cars you mention, The car is 420 bho with factory settings, you can change exhaust and air flow and remap up to 750 bhp safetly. You can use it daily and believe me you get noticed if that is what you want
It's only a 2l 4cylinder, but with 400bhp. Jeremy Clarkson managed to keep up with a Lamborghini Murcielago using an Evo on the Top Gear track. If it can do that on a track, it can do it anywhere.
Before you guys all start dissing 911's consider that you can easily pick one up it great shape, 7 to 8 years old for about $20,000 to $25,000 (non turbo), turbo for 36,000 to 48,000. Faster than you want to go. Compare a Porsche 911 with 40,000 miles and a Vette or Viper with 40,000 miles and there is no comparison. The Porsche just holds up better. And sure is hella fun to drive, way more fun than the Vette or Viper.
I agree, the audi r8 10 cyl., rs6, rs4, q7 tdi, s8, mercedes slr 722, sl65amg black, and many more are some of my favorites, but american cars have improved with cars such as the zr-1, and new viper..so comments like "racing in ovals" or "in a straight line" are ignorant...
I have a buddy in CA who went to Germany to pick up his.. his is a sky blue. when he bought it it was the ONLY one of that color in CA... he did that on purpose so his does not look like every Black, white, grey, red porsche on the road.
@wcub4 I don't think so, with the drag co-efficient & the overall aerodynamics of the Skyline, it can't hit much higher than 189mph. You do realize top speed is determined with alot more than just horsepower; most of these ppl here talking about the skyline are impressed w/ its power output. It doesn't impress me, you turbocharge the F430's 4.3L V8 and see what power output u get. Why do u think its so hard to get the veyron's 1001hp W16 to 240+ mph? Or the McLaren F1's V12? It's not easy!!
@Ferrari73703 But many people like Clarkson and other magazine reviews stated that the MP4 was more comfortable than the 458 , especially speeding over tiny little bumps...
viper acr has the nurburgring record as the fastest production car with a time of 7:22, zr-1 has 7:26 i believe, and the gt-r (skyline) is sumthing like 7:30's or 40's...faster than f430's or 911's(although i'm not sure if they have tested the f430 scuderia on it yet), but those times r faster than the enzo as well..
tell you what: go to google, and search nurburgring records... the viper was a 09 srt-10 acr...it was completely stock straight from factory except for a safer racing seat.....the acr is in the same category level of upgrades as the f430 scuderia..(no radio, no carpet, lighter weight, and improved aerodynamics, if you knew anything you would know no engine modifications were made at all to the viper)
Its not the cost its more the annoyance of having to refuel, my brother in laws car only gets 4MPG and i want practicality as well as performance. Is that to much to ask for?
Sorry if that sounds random, but I was replying to jeremy's line about the producing less carbon dioxide. It's not about the carbon dioxide it emits that anyone should be worried about. So I just thought that was pointless for them to be talking about how much smog the Porsche is emitting. On my personal preference, I like both cars... =]
Top Gear driving a Porsche 911 Turbo and reporting on it (ever so smartly) may be the closest any of us ever get to a drive in a car like this. Criticize all you want but personally, I enjoyed every second of it!
That's incredible: just one remodel later, the 911 Turbo has dropped its 0-60 time from 3.9 seconds to 2.9 seconds. Too bad you would need the flappy paddles to do it. Manuals ftw!
i know that but idk i guess i don't really likethat kind of thing if i ever bought a car just to say i have one of those it would have to be a pagani zonda ... i guess i like practical stuff
Oh God. the factory skyline 500 hp awd. We've got the g35x, which will suck your face off so gently, with 3 of your colleagues in comfort and oblivious to the fact you are jumping up over 120 mph in a moments notice. Nissan/infinity is scary. Very japanese, very refined. it moves you. these are awesome cars.
The difference between a 911 and a Ferrari is simple: When I see a 911 Turbo on the road, I don't even look twice. When I see any Ferrari on the road, I roll down the windows of my car so that I can listen to that Ferrari engine and try to keep up with the Ferrari so that I can look at the beautiful exterior longer. I've seen a 458 Italia on the road about a week ago and it really made my day. I can't remember when I've last seen a 911 Turbo. 911s are just cars. Ferraris are more than that.
To me 0-60 times don't have much use on the roadways, how often do you come to a complete stop on a 60MPH road? Now 40-60, thats how you pass someone, and you will do it with ease if it takes 1 second to get to that speed.
@MrMadpenguin, All those are fantastic cars, but the MP4, 911 T S, 911 GT2 RS, Continental SS and the M-B SLS are not as striking or cool as the 458, all Gallardos don't have the same fun, and that is the problem with the Aventador and the R8 V10. The Aston is still not as developed as the 458. I have driven a 458. It feels like flying on a Concorde at 1000mph.
I've driven one of these Porsche 911 Turbos and they really are a blast to drive; however, for its price you can get a slightly used Lamborghini Gallardo and have the a true supercar. Also, I would buy a lamborghini or Ferrari instead because of what they are. People will easily notice me on the streets with a Lamborghni while the Porsche 911 has very little to distinguish itself asthetically from a Cayman. It still is a fabulous car and more practical than other supercars but it isn't one.
Absolutely adore this car. Great to look at and fantastic engineering and speed.
I once got to test drive a 2007 Porsche all wheel drive twin turbo for an entire day. It was a writing project for a luxury super car rental company in Fort Worth Texas. 'only produces 300 carbon dioxides'
wait, what?
I just recently became a valet and drove a few porsches. @Philmen those are stock street legal 911 GT3 cars with the Clubsport option, you can see that some have their number plates on.

3:23 nice shot! top gear is the only car program which have the nice shots! damn i love that!
@Lightyy93 I agree and one reason I've loved the Ferarri look is its aesthetic beauty. They are a work of art.
Hey friend, we bought a Porsche 911 used. It was the older type with the big turbo ya hear.. took it up through the canola field on our far and did 80 through the crop because the crop sis on side of a mountain.. It went over and through the creek and rests beween two trees on the other bend. Has sat here several years now.
i agree w/ u the ZR1 is an amazing machine but driving the F430 gives u a totally different feel, but for true POWER the ZR1 is the right choice.
This Turbo is great, but I got my 2010 Turbo this weekend.....it's brutal....and you can drive it anywhere. Unbelievably exciing!
"you have so much grip it makes your eyes hurt" lol
I know the F1 like my house and the MP4 is brilliant, but it feels like you know what will happen
wow, the commentaries on this one is amazing, lots n lots of feelings.
@MatthewIndustries
Really?
I love the Beetle. It's got so much character, so much personality. Not to mention it's so simple that if anything does go wrong with it (unlikely since it was Porsche's creation) all you need to fix it is some rubber-band or scotch-tape.
@tasman763 The difference is that a rear mounted engine is behind the rear axle in a mid engine car it is in front of the rear axle and behind the front axle. NICE VID QUALITY!! TNX MAN!!

woo, i love that turbo, my friends father took us for a ride, i rode in the back seat, yes, in the non existant back seat, and went 120 no problem, with the top down. i was deaf for 20 minutes bc the wind was so strong lol amazing car tho, love it.
The porsche is the best cause my dad has an amazing version: Atlas Grey, 0-60mph= 3.6secs, the writing on the back is Cancan red like the interior! FANTASTIC!
Porsches are always good in turns, even their suv corners great.
@MKBoyardee i agree and it doesn't start on fire, or break the transmission every few thousand miles
Somebody please put the Altern8 Frequency tune backing this video, goes perfect especially the night driving part with clarkson - would do myself if could but no cleva enuff
yes both are twin turbo... I believe though the GT2 has different Turbo's... I stand to be corrected on that but for certain both have 2 turbo's

Did you slide it sideways into a tree ? It is the accepted thing to do .
the viper acr has an unofficial time of 7:22 on the nurburgring, and the zr-1 has an official time of 7:26, and the gtr skyline is next, all recorded just this past year or so, these times r faster than all the other 911's and f430's(although im not sure if thats faster than the new scuderia, but its faster than the enzo..)
Right, that is why I said technically--because there are four seats even if the ones in back fit nothing taller than 4 feet. However, they are still classified as four seat cars which gives them a more favorable insurance rate.
does anybody know what 911 was reviewed in this video? was it the 996 TT?
@tasman763 No it is not! A F1 car has the engine in front of the rear axle making it a mid engined car. There is a reason why no other high end car manufacture puts the engine in the rear of the car. Because the point is that you want as much of the weight as close to the center of gravity as possible to create balance.
A porsche may be beaten by speed, handling and such, BUT nothing beats it in style.. NUFF SAID
in a flat 6 or "boxer" engine, the cylinders sit in a horizontal position instead of a V shape like a V6. A lot of Porsches use boxer engines.
Can any owners of the porsche turbo tell me what sort of MPG you get? I'm thinking of getting one, just don't want to live at the petrol station.
What a lucky guy to drive all those monster cars...
I have finally found the name of the song at 3:09. Its called Pony pressure but I forgot the name of the band. Hope this helps people
'Ice cream made from the bones of your defeated squash opponent'?
Brilliant!
@angndev1 There's very few supercars that can beat the GTR. Check out nurburgring lap times. The Enzo has trouble keeping up and its priced at 10 times the amount.

@Philmen, they did , search for "gt3 sound pur" on youtube

I agree. At the end of the Day they are all great looking Cars, have a good one.
@MatthewIndustries BTW, Clarkson isn't the ONLY one who uses metaphors and similes in their spoken language. I do to, and so do a lot of people.
The 911 turbo is an undeniably great car. My favourite 911 is the normal Carrera, the classic one.
I love this video. I've probably watched it 15 times.
And sure is hella fun to drive, way more fun than the Vette or Viper.
what's the diferense between a v6 and a flat6???
which year of the 911 is this?

Which episode and season is this??
1:43 call me stupid but i love that blue polo
I have a buddy in CA who went to Germany to pick up his.. his is a sky blue. when he bought it it was the ONLY one of that color in CA... he did that on purpose so his does not look like every Black, white, grey, red porsche on the road.
You might want to try one though, they are like Marmite, you either love them or hate them.. I love them.
@Ferrari73703 But many people like Clarkson and other magazine reviews stated that the MP4 was more comfortable than the 458 , especially speeding over tiny little bumps...
viper acr has the nurburgring record as the fastest production car with a time of 7:22, zr-1 has 7:26 i believe, and the gt-r (skyline) is sumthing like 7:30's or 40's...faster than f430's or 911's(although i'm not sure if they have tested the f430 scuderia on it yet), but those times r faster than the enzo as well..
tell you what: go to google, and search nurburgring records...
the viper was a 09 srt-10 acr...it was completely stock straight from factory except for a safer racing seat.....the acr is in the same category level of upgrades as the f430 scuderia..(no radio, no carpet, lighter weight, and improved aerodynamics, if you knew anything you would know no engine modifications were made at all to the viper)
the turbo is my fav 997,it has a tall ground clearance,it has amazing handling, and it looks the best
top gear should do more reviews on the public road, sintead of in the circuit
whats the music at 3:09 and stops at 3:29
Its not the cost its more the annoyance of having to refuel, my brother in laws car only gets 4MPG and i want practicality as well as performance.
whats the music that starts at 3:09
zonda f clubsport, enzo and mc12 7:24, with stock tires, zr-1 and acr had semi slick, and vipers time is unofficial
Traditionally light silver, but IMO charcoal grey looks fantastic on a 911
and plus look at what porsche can get out of a 4 cylinder like in the 968 and not even the turbo model
Manuals ftw!
i'm desperate to find that song at 3:09 when the hot air balloon flies over
i know that but idk i guess i don't really likethat kind of thing if i ever bought a car just to say i have one of those it would have to be a pagani zonda ... i guess i like practical stuff
911 Turbo: Pure engineering excellence
Ferrari F430 : Pure heart and soul
either way, they would both make me a happy boy :D
"...ice cream made from the bones of your defeated squash opponent." Jeremy is a genius.
But a woman who asks you what you drive...you can say a Porsche and she can go WOW. Or you can say Ferrari and she can faint in front of you.
Yes and so does the carrera GT, 356, spyder, super 90, etc, etc. There are even one seat production porsches... they are called tractors though.
Oh God. the factory skyline 500 hp awd.
We've got the g35x, which will suck your face off so gently, with 3 of your colleagues in comfort and oblivious to the fact you are jumping up over 120 mph in a moments notice.
Nissan/infinity is scary. Very japanese, very refined. it moves you. these are awesome cars.
2:48 who was hoping the e-brake would fail?
the thing i love about 911s is the back seats! cause i got friends and they got friends too (:
The difference between a 911 and a Ferrari is simple:
When I see a 911 Turbo on the road, I don't even look twice.
It feels like flying on a Concorde at 1000mph.
man,i love that 911 edition!! and i love the turbo even more!
911 or ferrari,my dream cars
I've driven one of these Porsche 911 Turbos and they really are a blast to drive; however, for its price you can get a slightly used Lamborghini Gallardo and have the a true supercar. Also, I would buy a lamborghini or Ferrari instead because of what they are. People will easily notice me on the streets with a Lamborghni while the Porsche 911 has very little to distinguish itself asthetically from a Cayman. It still is a fabulous car and more practical than other supercars but it isn't one.
my dad just got a 2011, 911 turbo s
white on black
sick car
