  • In our very first how to video, Chris has a go at pitching the MSR Elixir 2 solo and offers some tips for getting it pitched in high wind. We've had this tent almost 5 months and it is dead easy to pitch, alone or as a pair. Any questions regarding the tent and its features, please ask away in the comments section!

    I set mine up today with no instructions, it was really nice to put up compared to every other tent. The top sheet might be a pain in the wind though I think.

    I’ve watched tonnes of videos trying to find the best way to get the poles in optimally. This video has been the best at showing that clearly. It’s a family channel so I’ll just say that I find my erections incredibly swift and efficient, even at my age. Thanks!

      Tanlines for Two I've been using it for the past couple weeks and it's been good so far. Although I don't trust it by itself in heavy rain. I put a 10x12 tarp over top just to be safe.

    • @Tanlinesfortwo
      @Tanlinesfortwo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Give it your trust! It's certainly good enough to survive some heavy rain. We had a jungle rainstorm and although the rain did soak through the rainfly (outer), nothing came to us in the inner.

    • @bustamalheart5398
      @bustamalheart5398 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tanlines for Two I just back from Algonquin and my tent flooded. Rain comes in through the vents on the sides of the tarp.

  • @evariste6116
    @evariste6116 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    thanks, very slick, quick and logical. Any variations for puttting it up in the rain without soaking the inner...or is it just "be quick"?

    • @Tanlinesfortwo
      @Tanlinesfortwo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, yeah, it's possible to put the outer up first (putting the poles into the eyelets of the groundsheet) and then clipping the inner to the already-constructed outer. It works, but it's not easy clipping the inner to the outer and I wouldn't recommend trying it in high winds. The outer on its own didn't seem to hold out so well in those conditions.

      Tanlines for Two I've got this tent, but it's been unused for two years. We usually basecamp with a VE25 but I got this so my daughter and I can try ultralight bkpacking. Life happens, haven't gone, dadada, needed a refresher. You made an old framepacker smile; subscribed

    Thanks. That was an excellent guide to pitching the tent. I've just bought one this week, but not had the chance to try it out yet. Like you I've bought this for some cycle touring. How have you found it over the long haul? has it held up well? I'm also interested in how it is pitching in the rain, is this ever a problem with pitching inner first?
    Thanks for the review though :-)

    • @Tanlinesfortwo
      @Tanlinesfortwo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Stephen, sorry that this reply was so long in coming! Great tent in the long run, lasted many months of camping every night on all sorts of terrain (with the groundsheet) and there's really not much sign of wear.
      As for pitching in the rain, it goes up pretty fast and you don't get too wet doing it 😂

  • @ashpollen65
    @ashpollen65 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Fatal flaw in this video. When the poles are set up, Grey should run under red at one end and over red on other end. Or vice versa. Setting poles as in this video where one pole travels under the other at both ends makes the other pole shorter. You will not be able to line outer fly seams with poles putting undue stress on outer fly resulting in shorter life span/damage and eneven pitch!! 😇

  • @headinthemountains1666
    @headinthemountains1666 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just wondering.......did you seam seal any of the stitching on this tent?
    Also any problems with leaks?
    Thx

  • @alexey207
    @alexey207 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    You can not put only the top layer of the tent without a sleeping area? This is useful on the beach for sun protection.

    • @Tanlinesfortwo
      @Tanlinesfortwo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You CAN pitch the outer (rainfly) without the inner (sleeping area). We will do another video showing this soon!

    • @AstrumG2V
      @AstrumG2V 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As I understand it the footprint has the same corner attachments as the sleeping area, so you can just pitch it with the footprint, or pitch it with footprint first and then attach the sleeping area (so I hope, otherwise you're gonna be wet af...)

    • @Tanlinesfortwo
      @Tanlinesfortwo  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right. The key is using the footprint, which we unfortunately no longer have. Using it as a general-use tarp meant it got pretty torn up!

  • @Addison1008
    @Addison1008 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Question! How many guy points does it have? Are there more than those 4 points? Did you use one line per point or did you use multiple lines at each point? Just wanna see if it'll be okay in very strong wind (75kph +). Thx!

    • @Tanlinesfortwo
      @Tanlinesfortwo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the slow-ass reply on our behalf. Correct, it has 4 points and we only ever ran these four lines out! The tent put up with some pretty rough winds on our adventures and as long as it is well -pitched, I think you'll be alright 😊

    • @SWGINSPECTOR
      @SWGINSPECTOR 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to make it more stable you can put hiking poles in the vestibules (holding up the end points of the center tent pole). This prevents strong winds from pushing down the vestibules and causing the tent to sag.
