hook me up, get a 88 keys midi piano with some hammer action. Preferably Yamaha, some good sounding software, doesn't have to be big, and train day to day. First learn how to play existing pieces outside of jazz. Romance or something. Start with Satie. Develop, play without having watch the notes (memorize). After a while some primitive improvisation will come out. Train day to day. After a few years you will eventually be where this guy is now!
bullshit. this guy studied Bill Evans transcriptions and spent long hard hours retraining his classical hands to play block chord style, alternated scales, riffs, etc. You don't get to this level by only listening and playing around with some Satie. It's a lot of work.
videos like this here are the only reason for me to keep on practising over and over again. the piano is such a hard instrument to master. thanks a lot!
lovely. I'm a drummer who has been learning jazz piano for 4 months and it's videos like this that keep my head in the jazz piano book. Thank you. Beautiful voicings.
You are an inspiration to pick up playing the keys...a style that heightens the experience of listening to your pieces. I know some establishments that would pay top dollar for talent like yours. The atmosphere you would create, would be priceless. Nobody would leave. Thank you for the experience.
I am a guitarist and i play a wide variety of styles from jazz and classic to rock and blues folk i just try to learn everything that i like no matter what style it is. But for smooth jazz i'd love to learn playing the piano like this. Its just soo soothing.
I was actually playing this track on my speakers as I was playing my saxophone and I gotta say even though I was improvising over it it came out something beautiful. It really pains me to see such a beautiful art form slowly die out due to main stream music that is produced with barely minimal talent if any. They say only the real music is gonna last but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore now and days.
I don't think I could play this for someone and have them evoke a negative response. This music sounds good to people, its just that modern pop music has awesome marketing, so people will naturally gravitate towards it.
I agree with you that what is popular now is formulaic, targeted and basically just marketing for an artist's 'brand,' but if you want that to change, and you don't want 'real music' to die out, than go listen to, and support the people trying to do it now. People like BADBADNOTGOOD, or Kamasi Washington, or Mac DeMarco, or Chance the Rapper (who you should give a genuine chance if you like gospel at all). It just bothers me that people complain about what is popular now, but don't support the things that they think should be popular. If people decide that they want 'real music,' the market will deliver.
Great, Alfonso, how you give extensive information about the tunes you are playing. That is quite unusual in the business of cocktail piano, and qualifies you as a great teacher. I really appreciate how much you share, dear friend ... and I am eager to learn more from you ...
Hi Mikesuissa,my arrangements are improvised, most of the songs "jazz standard" I read from the "Jazz Fake Book" and then arrange the way I do. Thanks for your interest in my music
Autumn Leaves is one of the most played and well known jazz standard: any average jazz listener could feel the original melody of this tune given the first chord. There are BILLIONS of "standard" improvs on the usual melody of this song and in order to bring the listener something new and enjoyable, one is surely allowed to thoroughly change the melody and make harmonic variations: the mixing between the improvisation you listen and the melody you have in mind is what you are supposed to enjoy.
I can learn volumes from you. I love the beautiful and controlled dissonance of your playing. Do you happen to have a midi or printed sheet rendition of this song complete with your substitutions by chance? I would love to learn your specific approach to this, one of my all time favorite songs. I look forward to your reply.
What was that nice 'turn around' chord u used at :30? -Nice Doc! You are awesome! I wish I could play like this. Part of my problem is while at work I did all that talking about when I retired I was going to practice everyday!...now that I'm retired...ha haaa lol -sounded great man!
i would love to get the sheet music for this.... i really want to play this tune.. i know its improvisation, but its such a nice version of autumn leaves. exactly my taste
great interpretation. I like it very much. This is 5th or 6th time i listen to this clip :) I also was listening Your other work. Great sensitivity and feelin'
I learned to play this song a couple weeks ago, and your improvisation is just wonderful! Wich I could play like that... It was a bit hard to hear the melody between all the improvised notes and chords, but I liked it this way...
the piano is a yamaha dgx620, but i used here only the keyboard with "Midi Usb" from this yamaha. The sound is a Steinway Black Grand from Sampletekk, you need a computer with 3 ghz, ram min.2 GB. hard disk with 15 Gb and min.7200 rpm, a soundcard with asio driver and a NI Kontakt software to load this piano.
Wow. Who gave this less than 5 stars? This is definitely the best rendition of autumn leaves on youtube.
i think i can listen to this all day.
wow. What a level of jazz piano playing. One day I want to be on that same level and I wonder if I ever will be there

You have great skill with ballads in painting a picture with the keyboard. Very reflective but inventive as well. Cheers.

I hear a lot of Evans in your sound. Really excellent.
