Kuthiran tunnel|first ride|Thrissur-Palakkad|കുതിരാൻ തുരംഗത്തിലൂടെ ആദ്യ യാത്ര|തൃശൂർ-പാലക്കാട്

Kuthiran Tunnel is the first road tunnel in Kerala constructed in NH544 between the districts of Palakkad and Thrissur. This tunnel avoids the huge traffic blocks that occurs frequently in the Kuthiran ghats during mansoons. It reduces the distance between Kochin and Coimbatore by 3 kms. The work tender was approved in 2009 and the initial work began in 2014. The work was delayed by various problems. Finally one of the two tunnels is opened for the public in 31st July 2021 by Central Minister of Road transport and Highways Sri: Nitin Gadkari.
