Yup that's her natural eyecolour, she is terrifyingly beautiful, but kind of shy and humble in person. Glorious woman, glorious voice. If you want your mind and ears absolutely blown try Epica - Once Upon a Nightmare from the Omega Alive show, it is gorgeous from beginning to end, high art.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Epica. Simone Simons is the lead singer and, as it happens, she has just released her first solo album, Vermillion, literally today. She is still very much with Epica and they are working on their 9th studio album to be released next year. Epica are a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 2002 by Mark Jansen (who does the growls in this video). The contrast between Marks growls and Simones heavenly tones is very much their signature. Some of the contrasts they create really shouldn’t work, but they do, spectacularly. Although their music videos are great, Epica are best served live. Try Chasing the Dragon from their live Retrospect show, which was their 10th anniversary show with full orchestra and choir from 2013.
Simone Simons is a long time friend of Floor Jansen, she also works with Arjen Lucas Thomassen on his Ayreon project. She is about to launch her first solo album (with Arjen) called Vermillion, three singles have been released, namely Aeterna, In Love We Rust and R.E.D. If you like to hear Simone and Floor sing together, check the Epica song Sancta Terra and the medieval Stabat Mater recorded during an anniversary concert by Epica (with choir and orchestra), the Retrospect live show.
Epica was founded by Mark Jansen, who was in Floor's first band After Forever. They do symphonic metal like Nightwish but with clean and harsh vocals and tend to be heavier than NW. They are friends with Floor and she's done some live songs with them over the years. Kingdom Of Heaven, Pt. 3 from their Omega Live they did during COVID is really good. It was released individually on YT and then 4 months ago they released the entire 1hour and 45m show on YT. th-cam.com/video/mrppEWGl_ss/w-d-xo.html
Storm of Sorrow is one of the Epica's more mainstreamer songs. For the "more" epic ones, you should check out the following one (and live are these songs better ) : - Kingdom of Heaven Part 1 (Live at Omega Alive) - Kingdom of Heaven Part 3 (Live at Omega Alive) - Design your Universe (Live at 20th Anniversary Retrospect show) - Consign to Oblivion (Live at the Zenith in Paris) - The Essence of Silence (Live at Official Live Video) - The Phantom Agony (Live at 20th Anniversary Retrospect show) - Cry for the Moon (Live at Studio Session or Omega Alive) - The Obsessive Devotion (Live at 20th Anniversary Retrospect show) - Unchain Utopia (Omega Alive) PS: As for Kingdom of Heaven Part 2 there isn't any (good) live version on YT. Or some Ballads: - Rivers - A Capella Version (Omega Alive) - Once upon a Nightmare (Omega Alive) - Chasing the Dragon (Live at 20th Anniversary Retrospect show)
it's her real eye colour... and her hair... and everything... she is the face of a make up brand in Europe, I cant recall if it's Revlon... but she is georgous... like all the dutch girls, light skin, red hair, blue eyes.
Has anyone requested Wintersun yet? Might be a good time since they drop a new album on Aug 30th. "Sons of Winter and Stars" live at Sonic Pump is a great place to start. You might recognize the drummer & bassist from somewhere else!
Guess now that you reacted back to back to Arch Enemy & Epica you also need to listen to the brand new solo collab of Simone & Alissa (their singers): Cradle to the grave. BTW, there you also then will hear Alissa’s clean vocals.
Good start, man! This is one of the most powerful bands in metal lately, bringing several influences from other branches of metal, such as death and even melodic black... I highly recommend checking out the heavier and more technical side of the band. Try Consign to Oblivion live from Zenith or Kingdom of Heaven part 3 from Omega Alive. Two masterpieces of metal, I would say. Far beyond the traditional symphonic metal
I understand why you chose the music video but good as it is this is far from Epica’s best output and I would urge you to check out some of the many live vids on YT to get the full EPICA experience. Suggest ‘Unleashed’ from their 10th anniversary Retrospective concert as a good starting point. Anything from that concert, the Omega Alive (covid stream) or Live from the AFAS in Holland will underscore what they are about and how astonishingly good they are.
The singer is Simone Simons and she’s very good friends with Floor Jansen. You should do their duet in “Sancta Terra”. The live performance. Awesome symphonic metal! Great job.
More Epica please! There's a reason most Symphonic Metal fans consider Nightwish #1 and Epica #2. Simone is incredible, the songwriting is brilliant and the whole band is super talented. Sancta Terra live with Floor is a good next choice but they have many many awesome songs.
Up until a few years ago I completely would have agreed with you on the #1 and #2 rankings. But, IMO, the last few years Epica has continued to really grow and expand and improve where as (at least for me) Nightwish seems to have lost a step. Not sure exactly what it is, but I know the loss of Marco really hurt them (again, just IMO). I will always enjoy Nightwish and will continue to listen to what they do, but I absolutely love the stuff Epica is doing. I see a new Nightwish song and go 'Sure, I'll give it a listen', where as when I see a new Epica song I can't click on it fast enough.
Epica are a great band, one of the best symphonic metal bands along side of Nightwish, glad you found them! Yes, to my knowledge that is her natural eye color but the red hair is not her natural color, though you would think so because she has had it this way for many years.....beautiful, IMHO!!
Please stop with these Sancta Terra requests only because Floor is in it :( This doesn''t do Epica justice at all. There are so many better Epica songs to start with to get to know Epica. If you really want to hear Floor then suggest Nightwish...
studio tracks for a first listen, then you hear exactly what they wanted to put out...then you contrast that with the live version. I get people want reactors to see a video. But it's a MUSIC reaction, the visuals distract from that for me personally (unless I'm physically at the concert then it's fantastic) but a lot of live stuff pisses me off because the crowd noise ruins it. Lol
@@deminybs Sancta Terra live from the Retrospect show was great. Not only did it have Floor but it also had a 70 piece orchestra and 29 voice choir on stage. With that said I still prefer the original studio version. Epica live shows can be distracting. There is typically so much going on. Still wishing I had been there for the Retrospect show.
Epica is another whole, fantastic rabbit hole to explore! Simone Simons (the beautiful red head) is good friends in real life with Floor Jansen. I read somewhere that they were roomies at music school? Don't know of the truth, but have read it in a few different places. If I could step off-topic for a second, I have to ask. Those prints on the wall to your right (the Rube Goldberg looking humorous mechanisms)... would they happen to be Fred Bartlett prints by any chance? They look really familiar to me. I met Fred several times before he died. Really great guy. He lived in a little old farmhouse next door to my then-girlfriend/now-wife's childhood home. He did mainly pen & ink line drawings of the abandoned Pennsylvania anthracite coal breakers, but he took a break from that one year to do a series of these funny mechanisms made to look like Patent Office applications.
@@teckreactions Perhaps. There are a lot of excellent live performances both old and new. Sooner or later enough people will take notice that you're doing Epica too and start flooding in! 😀 //// So, I'm guessing NOT Fred Bartlett prints then?
I believe that Simone and Floor did their classical training together and are very good friends. As for the rabbit hole you are getting into... Sancta Terra w/ Floor, Consign to Oblivion - Live at the Zenith, to really hear Simone's voice Stabat Mater w/ Floor from the 10th Anniversary concert or Rivers from the AFAS live concert w/ Apolcalyptica. Enjoy the ride!!!!
I'm so glad you finally got to this one! Epica's music is very complex. To me, they are equivalent in stature to Nightwish. For a next song, i would suggest Unleashed from their Retrospect concert. It was their 10th anniversary and they performed with a full orchestra and choir. Another interesting song from that concert is Sabat Mater Delorosa featuring Floor. This is a 15th century hymn of Mary at the Cross.
This is one of their most 'poppy' songs. Epica is a band that is known for their live performances and death metal infuences. They are usually way heavier than Nightwish and also further developed in terms of their intricate musical compositions and technical playing ability. They even have a death metal drummer :) Want to hear more of their usual sound with some heavy (death) metal drumming then I suggest Consign to Oblivion live at Zentith Paris (official live video) or The Essence of Silence live at Bussels (official live video).
@@teckreactions I forgot to mention that besides their heavy death metal influences (including growling by guitaris Mark jansen) they also have some beautiful ballads. But I figured that you as a drummer would prefer to explore some of their heavy stuff first :)

My first epica show will be on 19. September. With full symphonyc Orchestra and choir. Last year they opened for metallica. I was there. Great show.
Rock on!
Enjoy. I will be missing it this time. This show will be reacted on all over the world !!

„Consign to Oblivion“ live from the Zenith in Paris
my fav song is epica sensorium but epica kingdom of heaven part 3 is something magical
Yes, its one of my Epica`s most beloved videos on TH-cam. I love this song and the melodic lines here.
