Hi Dave and Ash ( I am also ex Zimbo Ash)) This has become my favourite Nightwish song EVER. And that takes a lot of doing because I love all their songs. Love you two and best of luck getting a great job Dave !!!!
I agree with Dave that it does sound a bit like their older material. Yes, Floor's voice is amazing and the rest of the guys in the band are very good musician. But, let's not forget who's the mastermind behind Nightwish: Tuomas Holopainen. He composes most of the music and lyrics. Nightwish is the vehicule for is vivid imagination and he knows how to surround himself with the best. Check out a side project of him with Troy Donockley, also in Nightwish, called Auri. You won't regret it.
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that explores themes of solitude, self-discovery, and the existential journey through life's trials. The imagery of the ocean, islands, and mariners reflects a metaphorical exploration of the human experience. The song captures the essence of navigating life’s uncertainties and finding one's place in a vast, often unwelcoming world. It suggests a longing for connection and understanding while grappling with the weight of past experiences and the isolation they can bring.
Tuomas said this song is about people we meet along the way in life, each person represent a island.. and the one steering the ship, Tuomas, or maybe you.. it could be your story right, but Tuomas proberly did write it as him steering the ship. feel some imaginarium vibes here, also some melody parts reminds a bit if the NW song Sahara.. i do think its a great song, i didnt catch it at first listen, i was also pretty tired, maybe thats why, but now i get on a journeu with it, sailing this ship.. love it!!
this song brings me back to books I read a long time ago, like the Earthsea trilogy by Ursula LeGuin and Umberto Eco's The Island of the Day Before. I love it how the orange and purple colors pop up at the end.
very good reaction. I think Ash is spot on. the reason this song is a banger like the Poet must be because it is dealing with the same isues. it is the hystory of Nightwish, i read a comment that makes complete sense now about below part of the lyrics ! the part: "Friends, who were for a time Now grapes of sour wine Lords of a single fly Still, I rue no island of shared solitude you who glow in deepest woe Let it be, retiree, the water's fine Sail carefree" this about Marco leaving and now talking BS about Nightwish and suddenly playing nice and being best friends with Tarja, while he was one of the main ones who wanted her gone ? at least i think thats whats going on, and Ash picking up on this makes sense. again good reaction. Gr.
I like every song from this album so far. Floor's voice is low in the mix for a reason. I've liked everything from Nightwish. Every song? No. But none are "bad" as the band itself is so talented and Tuomas is so unique in his compositions.
This had vibes of Romanticide to me, which is one of their heavier songs, especially the part towards the end (before it mellows out). Their WOA video of that song is great and maybe you'll get where I'm coming from idk. This is probably my favourite track on this album
This song is exactly what I was expecting of them when they were releasing their first album with Floor. And while I liked the songs in EFMB and Human Nature, it was never "it". And this... this is "it".
I like your take on the siren role of the early vocal lines, I never thought of it that way and it makes so much sense! I don't usually care too much about lyric videos, but this one gives such a good visual accompaniment to the metaphorical stages. I expected this song to be amazing since it's the 2nd track on the album, usually one of the better tracks on any album. What I did not expect was for this to be one of the best songs in their 30 year history!
My wife's company had a "Bake-Off" for all the Support Staff ( including Spouse's ) and I made a Vanilla Caramel cake ( 3 layered ) with a Caramel icing, in between layers, and a Caramel / Graham Cracker icing that I poured over the cake and let it set in the fridge to harden up over night! Our cake won the Over All First Prize, which included a $150 Gift Card to a very nice Sea Food Restaurant! So get him some cook books....!!!!
The part after the chorus maybe you get vibe from "Sahara" from them ?( If you haven't check it, i highly recommend you to do it :p ) . For me i have this huge sahara vibe at this point of the song. Anyway great reaction. Love from france :)
The way Dave did the tiddadadida, tiddadid sounds similar to what Rammstein did in Engel. (Christian Lorenz part on on keys) Ash must have seen Rammstein, right? (Or else she should) th-cam.com/video/eSaa3vC_n2k/w-d-xo.html at 3:04
A) Finland has over 175 000 islands less thab Norway (but ours are way cooler!) B) Home daddy can now cook and surprise her (keep the ER number on speed dial)😁
They were a bit more careful with yt compression problems. Tuomas déjà vu themes. Did you catch the shout outs? "The Butterfly Effect"? A Mariner under a sky Moonlit [GLS?] "The Islander" A "Siren"? Decades, make them matter. [Endlessness] A painter, on the shore. [Storytime] Where the cliff greets the sea... [Élan] "Not Waving but Drowning" is a poem by Stevie Smith. More Metal, old skool! The spelling to amuse the Americans, Quay, Cay. Jokers, jesters [Raving harlequins, gigantic toys?] "Bring Me to Life"! For the Reactors! Dancing, in the daylight [Dancing in the dark?] Never Ending Story? Those smiles and grins! Is it building? Ominous horns Covered in ash [Pompeii?] "An island of past wrecks"; The Antikythera mechanism (the next track). Endless sundown {Sleeping Sun] Meadows [Of Heaven] "Mad despair" [Scaretale] "Lords of a single fly" Snap! As John Wick said: "I think, I'm back!" That was chunky... "Titanic" vibes.
Mix svcks slightly less than with "Perfume", but still comes across as if Tuomas is deliberately burying Floor in whatever noisy background he's created - Wintersun-style almost - by throwing in massive amounts of layering. Double bass overbearing where it shouldn't. Guitar the same, except where Emppu needs to shine, then it's drowned out again. Mixing guy should be fired but apparently Tuomas wills it, so all's well I suppose. Let's forget about Tuomas lyrical logorrhoe of late, forcing Floor to almost rush the truckload of syllables that he just seems to dump on her lap since H:N. But apart from these minor issues - oh and the redundant but obligatory Troy appendix - this song is a 10/10 😇
@@lekalla Okay, I'll spell it out for you: I'm not a fan of Tuomas going overboard with the orchestral stuff. It tends to muddle the mix more than anything, hence "noisy" as in "busy". Too much happening, vying for acoustic space. Same goes for the lyrics: too much to sing properly, which hardly comes as a surprise since Tuomas doesn't know the first thing about vocals. It's all abt his message now, metre or proper phrasing (let alone breathing) be d@mned. Singers, i.e. Floor/Marko already argued this point during the pre-prod of H:N. Would you like a verbatim quote by Tuomas himself on the issue?
Unfortunately whilst this is a fantastic song the mix is still wrong. Floor’s voice is lost. I think the whole album will be like it. Very poor decision to mix it like that!
Thuomas: I have some difficult lyrics for you
Floor : hold my beer
Yep that's Floor Queen of Metal 😊😊😊
@@joekel55 sorry, it's whiskey
"So, how many nightwish elements can you fit in one song?"
Tuomas: "Yes".
I am flabbergasted. This song is fantastic and that outtro from Troy one of the most beautiful pieces of music I ever heard
Nightwish has this weird effect to make a 9 minutes song feel like 3 minutes and 10 days before an album release feel like 10 years...
And there’s still 6 days 😩
Yester-Wynde the clock of decades...
THIS IS NIGHTWISH.......finally unleashed Floor
I agree Floor was freaking amazing
i love her vocal melodies...and its dark and heavy...its going back to the album Imaginerium
My fair ladies and distinquished gentlemen. This is an epic Masterpiece. 😎🤘
Absolute Pekka
In the middle of the song you can hear SAHARA
Yess you're right.
and some Scaretale vibes (That Floor´s evil laugh)
Loads of references and shout outs!
Tuomas showing some humour.
The rest of the band:
we haven't all had a major workout at the same time for a while
Tuomas: oh really? Hold my red wine!
Pan from the last album was similarly quite heavy and fast paced.
I want to see it LIVE !!!!!!!!!!! EPIC - the symphony orchestra is fantastic
proper nightwish.... that says it all.....finally..
I love this song more every time i hear it - i think masterpiece is the only word that does it justice 🤘
I mean, this is Nightwish pure. What a Masterpiece
A stay at home Dad is a wonderful thing! 😉 Congrats on graduation!
Hi Dave and Ash ( I am also ex Zimbo Ash)) This has become my favourite Nightwish song EVER. And that takes a lot of doing because I love all their songs. Love you two and best of luck getting a great job Dave !!!!
Ash has such a cute smile when Floor starts singing, with squeezing her eyes, simply loving it ❤️-🤘🤘🤘
Tuomas is genius. One of the best Nightwish music experience.
THIS is the Nightwish i am waiting for since "Once" 2004
Yay! Someonce is happy :)
In the last song Tuomas deliberately had Floor softened in the mix as he wanted her to be part of the choir and not a soloist
In which song? In every song so far she has done solo singing.
Perfume of the Timeless… it was deliberate to keep floor in the mix particularly with the choir. Tuomas always has it done as he intended
@@andonsea2803 In the chorus yeah but i can hear her solo even in the chorus.
I've also heard Tuomas say that the mix is intentional.
Our Metal Mozart Strikes Again !!!!!
Old meets New, Let's Gooooo....

She was right, Dave. There was a choir in there at the end. lol
Love this musical journey ❤❤❤
Great concert opener 😁
For me also the best song so far🤘, everything Nightwish stands for comes out!
Nice reaction from you👍
Tuomas has a big message to be told via musical lyric masterpiece. NW is a perfect tool to do it.
The mix was how Tuomas wanted it.Floor more a part of the choir.
Es necesario destacar el extraordinario sonido de Hahto en la batería... Es notable el sonido de la percusión ❤❤❤
Masterpiece ❤❤

Couldn’t agree more, definitely a more “Nightwish” song. This was everything that “The Day Of…” lacked.

Cinematic movie soundtrack metal. Ash nailed it! Life has its ups and downs. We lose a few on the journey.
