So according to everyone in the comments this is waaaay to easy to be a C1 exercise... but don't blame me! This is straight from the Cambridge website (link in description). I'll make more challenging listening videos in the future!

I have recently taken the British Council English Test on the smartphone app... it takes 35 minutes and it's not even THAT hard.. but... I could only score C1... so I asked my English friend to take it as well and he couldn't score C2 either! some of the answers seem to be ambiguous... there seems to be elements of an IQ test rather than strictly Language. Would you like to have a go at it? You can find it on the Play Store. ciao :)
      ps
I don't have elements to judge the grammar and vocabulary part... there is no way to review it. But what frustrates me is that I do have a 100% understanding of the reading and listening but could not score 100% (C2)

@@carlottasall1583 l'unica difficoltà-ma enorme!- che ho riscontrato nel listening del c1 è stata la mancanza di tempo tra l'ascolto e la lettura delle opzioni disponibili da scegliere. Non ci sono pause e praticamente devi fare tre compiti contemporaneamente (ascoltare, leggere le molte e disposte in colonne diverse opzioni e scegliere quelle giuste) e se hai difficoltà di concentrazione o col multitasking sei fritto

What's your mother tongue, and when did you begin to learn English? What you say it's not very fair, it makes other people feel bad, or stupid... My mother tongue is Italian, we learn German first, then French and only later English... But I have to say: My sister goes by ear, she listen and learns. I can't do it that way, I HAVE to go with grammar all the time... Even if I learnt German as first foreing language I keep on making mistakes with similar sounds (mir VS mich, viele VS vieleN and so on)... Be happy that you have a good ear as well!

Hi Brian, I'd ask you a thing that I've been questioning for a while. I'm 15 and a native Italian speaker and I learned English just by myself, viewing yt videos and learning stuff. I don't want to brag but I had no problems with this exercise and just by the first time that I heard the speaker I could easily tell what she said but when we do grammar at school or while preparing for First (B2) I had a lot of problems remembering how to put things in the right order, verbs, etc... The point is that I've got no problems to formulate complex sentences and the words come to my brain like I always knew them but in the theory, I cant explain grammar rules and why I did that choice. I hope you can understand what I wrote and thanks for all the lessons that you gave me!

It's simple: You have a good ear but you are not good in grammar and writing. A lot of people learn that way. I am, sadly, the opposite: I have to work really hard to be good in something, it's depressing to read these comments. Everyone says: "No problem at all", while I really did work hard to be at the point I am now... But ok, we learnt from German to English, not from my mother tongue to English, that maybe makes everything harder?

3:00 I absolutely hate it when they ask us that kind of questions during a language test. When I listened to this, the first thing that came to my mind was that the man asked if Sarah ate the cheese. However, he's using the word "see" so it wouldn't be wrong either to cross the other answer. Since there's no way to be 100% sure about what the man was trying to say, both answers are right. I really wish they would to stop to make interpretation questions like that.
Also, this looks more like a A2/B1 test...

2:55 -- I mean... is there anyone else in the room? Because, if so, the man very well could be subtly accusing and making fun of the actual cheese thief and bringing Sarah into the game with him. Parents do this with children fairly often.
"Oh no. The cookie jar is empty! I guess Cookie Monster must have come by in the night and eaten them all. That's the only explanation possible since I was very clear when I told the children not to eat any of them." That sort of thing.
Or I guess the man and Sarah could be very passive aggressive jerks who aren't willing to just come out and accuse the cheese thief but are instead putting on this act while the thief is in listening range.
I'm a born and raised native English speaker and it's actually not that clear what is going on.

Tip: you use surgelato when you speak about the food you keep in the freezer. It's freezing would be translated as "si gela" or "che freddo che fa" or "c'è freddo"
Also, you wouldn't say "intorno a questa casa", you'd rather go with "in casa" andd it's not "porta" it's "sportello". You would refer to something as a "porta" when it leads into another room.
You would translate "front door" as "porta di casa" or even just "porta", not "porta principale".
Hope I'm useful, since I'm italian I can't help but notice, and most of my knowledge of english comes from me making mistakes and others correcting me, so I guess I'm doing the same.

Gli ascolti del C1 sono molto più lunghi e il Cambridge ha incrementato diversi accenti negli audio. Se il listening fosse così lo farei trentamila volte

Hi briller! Thank you for the amazing work you always do! I've kind a problem: I can perfectly understand American English, but it's a little harder understand British English for me (I have to listen to the exercises more than once). Do you have some suggestions?

    • @marvin-xz6zw
      @marvin-xz6zw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry if I step in-
But it was EXACTLY THE SAME. I started casually learning English when I was 14 and I slowly started to understand people talking. But if GOSH British accent wasn't HARD to understand.
I understand everything now without problems (I'm 20). Yes, I'll find a tricky word here and there but it doesn't stop me from understanding what is being said. You just need A LOT of practice. Try following English TH-camrs or watching English movies! Believe me, that way you don't even notice you're learning, it just happens :)

I scored 100% listening just once ma é stato facile perche Vivo a Londra. Devo ammettere comunque che ho imparato all of a sudden guardando questo video, ho sempre usato suddenly ma all of a sudden mi piace di piu. Sono le 4 di notte. Giorno 24. Lockdown. 3.401.000 contaggiati nel Mondo. Luogo Londra. Diario Di bordo.
