  • Find out more about the C2 Proficiency exam: camengli.sh/35HXWpb
    Read the examiner's comments: camengli.sh/3tvsa8g
    Time allowed: 16 minutes per pair of candidates
    Number of parts: 3
    You have to talk: with the examiner with the other candidate on your own
    Part 1 (Interview)
    What's in Part 1? Conversation between the interlocutor and each candidate. The examiner asks each of you a series of questions, addressing a question to each of you in turn, to give you an opportunity to talk about yourselves.
    What do I have to practise? Giving information about yourself and expressing your opinion or speculating about various topics.
    How long does Part 1 last? 2 minutes
    Part 2 (Collaborative task)
    What's in Part 2? The interlocutor gives you some spoken instructions and one or more pictures to look at. First, you have to answer a question which focuses on your reaction to aspects of one or more pictures (1 minute). The second part is a decision-making task which you have to do with the other candidate.
    What do I have to practise? Sustaining an interaction: exchanging ideas, expressing and justifying opinions, agreeing and/or disagreeing, suggesting, speculating, evaluating, reaching a decision through negotiation, etc.
    How long does Part 2 last? 4 minutes
    Part 3 (Long turn and discussion)
    What's in Part 3? The interlocutor gives you a card with a question and some ideas on it and you have to speak for about 2 minutes on your own. After you finish, your partner has to comment and the interlocutor then asks you both a question on the same topic. The interlocutor follows the same procedure with your partner and then leads a discussion with both of you.
    What do I have to practise? Speaking on your own for a longer time, expressing and justifying opinions, developing topics.
    How long does Part 3 last? 10 minutes (2-minute long turn for each candidate and then approximately 6 minutes for the discussion).
    Cambridge English speaking tests take place with one or two other candidates, and two examiners. This makes your test more realistic and more reliable.

    Everyone who’s saying this is mediocre, you’re forgetting the pressure of having to perform on a moment you’ve been working toward for months. You don’t have any idea of the subject you’re going to have to talk about, neither do you know your examiner or the person you’ll be doing the exam with. Obviously everyone who speaks English on a professional level is able to articulate themselves quite well, but the criteria of a C2 level are quite complex. I scored a B on my C2 exam, but speaking was my lowest grade. It’s just a nerve wrecking exam, there’s no real way to prepare for it. Taking the nerves into account, they performed really well. Being able to string together coherent sentences while you’re stressed out means you’ve internalized the language pretty well. Try it before you judge!

      I agree with you. The same people who are criticizing them would freeze right away , considering it's both a nerve wracking experience and most of them haven't even achieved a B2 in English. People like looking down people because that makes them feel better about themselves when in reality standardized exams are rather humbling at times. It's crazy how some people believe they're advanced speakers when in reality they turn out to be intermediate speakers for the most part and probably can't articulate ideas without preparing their speech in advance.

    • @marcosc9130
      @marcosc9130 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I mean C2 is quite advanced, you would think anyone applying for C2 already have confidence in their english, seeing how you can't go much higher than this, except maybe being asked to give a speech about a very hard subject. Isn't it the whole point of C2 being almost or better than a regular native? I get being nervous, we do in our native language, but it's more about working on nerves than english itself.

      Actually, they don't use any complex lexis. It's more like a lively conversation, it's writing when things start complicated as they have time for thinking of an interesting words, idioms, etc which is not really common in our daily lives. So it shouldn't come as a surprise anyone who has higher than Upper-Intermediate level understood them

      Yeah, I thought of a similar thing just watching these examination videos. According to the description of the levels, both C1 and C2 are advanced and even C1 should be very difficult, but the examination video for C1 looked like a children's class. And the speeches of these two applicants in this C2 do not seem that advanced and fluent.

    The swiss girl has just a perfect English and her intonation, as well her pronunciation are on point. I'm positively surprised how well she ordered the ideas and the knowledge she demonstrates about the topics she was talking about. It is mesmerizing how she smiles at the boy every time she interracts with him. It's fascinating the way she looks at him. That's admirable. She knows all the vocabulary related to the topics and she uses an English grammar correctly. The girl doesn't show nerviousness or concern. I suppose she got a highest mark that is possible on the spoken test. She has a very good level of English. I hope her qualification is 10 out of 10.

      @@fernandaam3471 A little, they can ask for something a little less trivial, also the margin for mistakes is tighter, so you can get away with more in B2. In the end the tests are very alike, just the demands change, they can ask the same question, but they expect a much more complete and rich answer from a C2, also it's not enough to not make mistakes, you have to be one step higher. Ex: They ask "What do you like to do on your spare time?", if you are applying for B2 you can say, "I enjoy reading books, watching movies and playing with my pet on the backyard", on C2 this could be consired an answer to short or shallow (maybe, I'm not really sure how deep they expect) so as a C2 you could answer "I like to read, specially classic romances like Pride and Prejudice, also love to watch romantic comedies or action flicks with my boyfriend, and when the day is beatiful I'd go outside and play catch my dog". It's essentially the same answer, but with a lot more details and showing flexiblity and some degree of knowledge and comfort speaking, the consensus between test takers is that they would grade the 2nd option higher than the 1st, even if you slip on some words or make some mistakes, so it's probably better to risk and make a mistake here and there while showing knowledge than playing safe and risk looking like you have shallow knowledge and just learned some phrases to take the test.

    • @alejandrom.4680
      @alejandrom.4680 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Fernanda AM Well, it’s. For logical reasons, is intended that you, as a C2 student, should have a wider vocabulary with more variety and complexity. The student should develop as much as it can the answers he/she gives, having already a better control of grammar and such. Basically, it could be the same thing, just much more detailed and errors of B2 are not accepted in this test. This are thoughts of mine, since I have never took the test. I just took 3 years of English and then learnt myself talking with natives, and if you don’t do already that, I encourage you of doing it! Your english would come better articulated and coherent with the time.

    I took my CPE exam last summer and it's not as easy as some people think. The hard part is not to speak fluently, but to make up your mind about the topic in seconds and overcome the pressure. For me, speaking was fun but only because I had known my partner before, so we weren't awkward with each other. Writing is the most challenging part, since you have strict time restrictions and it's extremely daunting. I got a C for writing just cuz I was anxious. What saved me were my 230 points (the highest score) for reading and use of english. Really have no idea how I did that lol. Got an A for speaking, a B for listening (which was a bitch), and an overall score of 222 (an A). Must say that CPE is definitely harder than IELTS (which I got an 8.0 for three years ago), but you don't need much preparation if you are experienced with this kind of exams.
