Simply put these sessions started from her shows she does for sick kids! She has done them with Dolly and Joan Jett! Sne has been complimented by both of them and Billy Idol! They have said she is the real thing!
I can't financially support the channel but I can watch the ads and not skip.
There is also an excellent..truly live... rendition by Alison Krauss with some awfully nice fiddlework by the great Stuart Duncan
She does have a crazy good voice when she applies it to worthwhile songs, she unfortunately wasted her talent on some crap in her days. I agree that she does a fantastic cover of this song but Dolly's version is still my favorite. Not discounting your opinion at all, that is just my opinion. Dolly actually lived this unfortunately and put her heart and soul into every lyric (even though I wouldn't want a man that talked about another woman in his sleep or by default if Jolene walked away, but that's just me. She's still married to the man after all these years so good for her?) and that's why I feel more connected to Dolly singing it but Miley is a very close 2nd, I also like the liberties she took with changing a few of the lyrics. Great review, I love to watch all of them even when I don't like the song 😊

She was a child star which gave her a huge boost and it certainly didn't hurt any that her father is country singer Billy Ray Cyrus (Achy Breaky Heart) and her godmother is Dolly Parton (the original Jolene).
And now she has made her own name for herself.
It could be argued that being a child star is a big negative but she definitely overcame the problems it can bring. She's amazing.

Seriously ! After spending so many years giving the stank face toward anything Miley Cyrus, I accidentally heard an interview with her a couple years ago, (I was too busy to turn the channel) and was FLOORED at her level of intelligence. But not just "intelligent", she carries a wisdom that you would find in someone 75 years old. I was so blown away with her that I went looking up other interviews with her just to make sure this wasnt just a one off "good day" for her or something, and interview after interview I was completely mesmerized. But THEN came the real kicker, I went and watched the most amazing performances by her, like Nothing else matters, and zombie, and freaking HEART OF GLASS. Even her Midnight Sky video. And not only does she just obliterate everything she does, but these performances were testaments of that wisdom that was now coming through in her voice, and her stage presence. And ultimately topping it all off with a confidence that just bursts out of her in the slightest facial expression or movement. Its like watching a super nova, just something truly amazing inside of her that I've never seen in another artist. Ok anyway whatever im done.

Her whole Plastic Hearts album is amazing. So underrated, and didn’t get much exposure because of her label at the time. Such a shame.
Which still mind boggles me because it’s one of her best albums of her entire career. Suits her voice perfectly.

I was so surprised when I first listened to this awhile back, as I thought I wasn't a fan of Miley's singing. It is rare that I like a cover as much or more than the original, but this is one of the exceptions. I think Miley does a superb job with this song and I think she would make a great country singer.
I really think in a few more years..that is the genre she will end up in and where she truly belongs..Country or Americana. Girl has a gorgeous tone, can sing AND emote

Was minding my own business one night and she came out on a late night talk show and proceeded to blow me away whith her charisma and voice, and in that moment I GOT Miley Cyrus. She is electric on stage. And then I discovered this and it became one of my favorite covers and I'd say one of the best covers of all time. She never gets carried away trying to make the song do more than it already does and yet the inflections in her voice throughout are incredible.
If you enjoy the band, the whole Backyard Sessions is great. Esp her cover of Lilac Wine. She's only 19 here.
Her voice is a bit grittier now following throat problems but she still sounds great.

Dolly Parton is Miley Godmother. Miley's backs to them Tennessee roots in this one. Lately Miley's been in her rock bag. I really love hearing the rock side of her as well. She's a very skilled and talented vocalist..I've always appreciated the time if her voice and as well how she brings a feel to a song. She knows her craft and I love hearing her sing no matter what genre she decides to go for.

Her Band Stuck With her since the beginning, the drummer I believe is also her director of music for all of her performances and customizes the bands music to compliment her perfectly. The all recognized how talented she was at such a young age and had to put up as background to Hannah Montana….. but knew that she would grow up and now get to play for probably one of the best back up bands (touring regularly) of our generation…. And she is still relatively very young, and Billy Ray who at one point was considered one of the biggest one hit wonders (a failure) was able to protect her and teach her the good and bad of the music business…. then knew that eventually he’d have to let her spread her wings and and take all that knowledge and step out on her own….. since then so very similar to her god mother let the press think she was nothing more then a voice and good looks…. Dolly and Her are both high level intelligence and take everything …. The good the bad and the ugly and a) learn a lesson and b) flip it to their advantage. She is a true Superstar

I used to be married and used to have stepkids and the youngest watched Hannah Montana. Miley Cyrus basically grew up in mouseketeer training without the mouse club distinction. Rather than a musichead, I'd say she is Of Music. Born to a musical family in a music industry town and raised as a musical actress. Also all the dark shit that comes with child actors in Hollywood. She came out on top for the most part and if nothing else will dominate the country and western songwriting business in later life.
