Yes, there's so many country "story" songs! Here you go for more possibilities: Bobby Gentry- "Ode to Billy Joe", Alison Krause with Union Station- "Wild Bill Jones", Gillian Welch-"Annabelle", and here's one song with 4 stories held together with a moral: John Hammond, "Get Behind the Mule".
Dolly Parton is the one who wrote the song, I Will Always Love You that Whitney Houston sang in The Bodyguard. Dolly wrote that song and performed way back in 1963.
There’s a version of Jolene that a girl did on the Voice UK about 6-7 years ago that was amazing. It was a reggae-rap version and it is out there on YT. Definitely worth checking out, it was a great homage to the amazing Dolly Parton.
Dolly was famous for her bust size. But her talent was what kept her fame and still does. Her humanitarian efforts are too numerous to count. But she doesn't advertise them. Too many songs to listen only one great one. But have you ever heard of Ricky Skaggs? Bluegrass. I suggest Blue Moon of Kentucky. It's easy to find. Love your vibe❤
Not only did Dolly write "I Will Always Love You" but she took all of her royalties from Whitney's version and donated them to Black Charities. She is one of those types of classy person. EVERYBODY, and I mean EVERYBODY in almost any genre of music has done a Dolly song.
Dolly ran across an advertisement, maybe for a wig, that declared something along the lines of "For only $29.99, you can look like Dolly Parton". She said, "I wish I'd have seen this sooner; I could have saved a lot of money!"
In a TV interview, Dolly was asked if she'd ever consider running for President. Her response: "I think we've had enough boobs in the White House. Don't you?"
I just love hearing Dolly interviewed! She is so down to earth and flat out funny. She can really tell a story that will have you torn up in no time! Love, love, love her since i was a kid and she was on Porter Wagners show way back in the day.
When her town burned down she paid everyone to get their homes and goods restored. She is an amazing lady. She is tiny. Smaller than 5 feet. She has been a country staple for ever and a day. She sings like a bird. Find more to listen to. You'll love her songs.

She stood up to Colonel Tom Parker over that song. He wanted to buy it outright because Elvis wanted to sing it. Dolly refused to sell it. Said she cried all night because back then having Elvis sing your song made a songwriter’s career. But she knew it was a bad deal in the long run.
@CornbreadOracle Yeah, he told her it was "customary" for artists to sign over ALL the rights to any song Elvis wanted to sing. She knew that was a bad idea. Go look up sometime how much money she made just off the royalties for Whitney's cover.
@@katbandit26 She's making a rock album that's gonna feature Pink, Stevie Nicks, and other women. I can't wait. Most of our hometown is probably wondering if she's losing her mind. 🤣 She's done everything she has wanted to do. She's done more for East Tennessee, especially Sevier county than anyone ever has. Dolly has written over 5k songs and has recorded almost 1k of them. She’s written for her god daughter, Miley Cyrus, and a bunch of others. Her integrity, generosity, talent and kindness are incredible. She has done so much good in this world 🦋
OMG. Dolly is divine. I was kind of flabbergasted when you said you didn't know anything about her. She's as gorgeous inside as outside. She sends out thousands of books every year to young kinds in her home state of Tennessee and the literacy rate has jumped significantly thanks to this wonderful woman. And I'm an Aussie!
I'm Mexican. I love her. I like some of her music even when I'm not really into country. I admire her efforts for improving literacy and I can't get over her live for drag queens.
@@AnastasiaBvrhwsn She actually supplies books to children into their elementary school enrollment. I’m nearby in SW Virginia, and my county is included in her largesse
Dolly Parton would be a billionaire, but she donates so much of her money. She create the Imagination Library to give free books to children from birth to age 5. She started in her home town to promote literacy, and has since been able to expand it to the entire USA, the UK, Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland. They are trying to expand it even further. She worked hard to help raise the high school graduation rate in her small hometown in TN. Dolly Parton is a queen & nobody will dispute you on it. Plus, she & her husband are still happily married to this day.
Dolly is a national treasure. This was 35 years ago. Check out a recent song she did with Brad Paisley called “When I Get Where I’m Going”. It’s beautiful.
I'm not a big country music fan however Dolly is the exception and I will pause when skipping stations if I hear her singing. Fabulouse sense of humour and doesn't take herself too seriously. Many performers could take a leaf out of her book.
She comes from humble beginnings and never forgot it. Her parents had twelve children in a two room cabin in Sevierville Tennessee. Shes known not only for her music and acting but shes very giving. I hope you listen to more of her songs. Youll enjoy them I promise. ❤
I've always wondered which family was more poor, Dolly's or Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle... But I suppose when you get that poor, there's not really a difference.
In 2022 Dolly was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Initially, she refused the honor because she’s always been associated with country music and she has already been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame! The fans insisted so she accepted the honor! She is an amazing songwriter, she wrote I Will Always Love You…the huge hit for Whitney Houston! ❤❤
I'm SO looking forward to the new "Rockstar" album she's releasing fully in November. She worked with a LOT of real legends on this one and the things that I've heard that have been pre-released so far are really wonderful!
I think her 2 newest songs (that may be on the RocknRoll album) are World on Fire & a cover of Alanis Morissette’s song What’s Going On? Both are awesome, just like Dolly*
I met Dolly Parton when I was around 5. this was in the 80s My parents took me to a country music event sort of thing and she came over and talked to everyone after. I was saying your famous wow. She was basically saying she’s no one special she just knows how to sing. She told me I was beautiful and special and she was so nice to my parents. It stuck in my mind like it was yesterday because it made such an impression on me. I grew up listening to thrash metal and not much country at all and still do but I’d go see Dolly again in a second
She is one of the most iconic performers of ALL time. She is classy, sassy, gorgeous, kind, talented. One of kind. And yes, she is considered a country artist.
Dolly is an incredibly talented woman who has written over 5000 songs, plays about 12 instruments and sings like an angel. She has also given away over 100 million books to children from birth to age 5 through her Imagination Library in honor of her dad, who couldn't read. She donated 1 million dollars to Moderna to help develop the Covid vaccine. She has a theme park called Dollywood in the Tennessee Mountains. Watch some of her interviews. She is hilarious.
that is a wonderful description of her voice. I keep hoping if one of those folk rock bands gets to come over that they'll consider doing something with her. She would sound so nice with Sharon Den Adel or heck, maybe even Sabaton they got a bit of viking/ old school in them.
As great of a singer as Dolly is she is an even more impressive person. It’s worth researching a little about her, where she came from, all her accomplishments and generosity. She’s truly a beloved icon.
@@normcmiller she's still doing all that amazing stuff. Just came out with a new line of cake mixes with Betty Crocker. Recorded an album with Kelly Clarkson. She hasn't slowed down. She's still writing songs, making records & pissing off the MAGA types, they're just too chicken to openly say anything against her because they know they'll be crushed.
She is still doing great things. She has a literacy program for small children, where anyone with a child under a certain age can sign up and get a free book every month, she helped to fund the moderna vaccine, and when the Smoky mountain fires occurred back in I think 2018, she paid each family who lost their home $1,000 a month for 6 months, and then gave them each a balloon payment of $5,000. No strings
For more understanding of where Dolly came from, I suggest her Coat Of Many Colors. It's a beautiful, somewhat heartbreaking song explaining the poverty of her childhood and the attitude of her classmates at school because of that poverty. She didn't become bitter and angry though. It filled her heart with empathy and compassion for others.
@@elainehockley1440 Dolly performed it well when she wrote it. However, she had so much more life experience when she performed and recorded it with Pentatonix. That performance was a masterwork, with nuances that only come from more life experience.
Of all of her many causes and her generosity, her eagerness to send books to children everywhere - and to help kids go on to college that might not otherwise have gotten there - these really touch my heart. This woman has given away millions upon millions, quietly, steadily, and with only enough publicity to get the job done. She's a class act.
She wrote I Will Always Love You on the SAME DAY she wrote Jolene!!!! She also composed her hit 9 to 5 in her acrylic nails. She tapped them together to create the beat
Dolly also put up 1 million to directly pay for research on a vaccine in response to the Covid epidemic. Hers were the first funding! She is an amazing human being. ❤
She is a charitable soul. She also just got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She said that wasn't right, she hasn't ever done rock. And so she is putting together a rock album now with several invited rock guests on an upcoming album. Below is the clip I found about it: Parton made headlines in March after saying she was "extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated," but didn’t feel that she had "earned that right" to be recognized as a rock artist over other performers. As a result, she wanted to "respectfully bow out." But by then, ballots had already been sent out to voters. In response, the Rock Hall announced that they weren’t backing down, explaining that the organization was "not defined by any one genre." They pointed out that it had deep roots in country music, as well as rhythm and blues.
When visiting Florida 15 yrs ago, we went to a dolly show that included your supper. As the price was much the same as any restaurant, we decided to give it a go for the experience even though we were neither dolly nor country fans. OH WOW !!!! It was Dolly Parton herself that sang like an angel, chatted with the audience and had us in fits of laughter, in between crying my heart out at the most amazing lyrics. This pint sized lady, who came from dirt poor beginnings in the mountains, then came down to chat with anyone who wanted to, as we were leaving. I tried to tell her that I’d been so moved by her story and her honesty through her songs, and she said we were all the same trying to do our best to get through life. She also laughed and referred to her songs as just her little tunes. So humble. I’ve never forgotten that night, the night I met a true star who has been a wee fighter and so proud of her family and community. Fame has not ruined her, to her it’s a way that she has been able to give that she would otherwise been unable to do. And yes i continue to feel emotional when I hear her sing. ❤
@@BosseLadi12 I remember Vicki Lawrence singing "The Night the Lights Went out in Georgia" in 1973 and still prefer that one to Reba's. It went to number one on Billboard.
Anyone who actually is aware of all the good this lady does cannot help but admire her even if country music is not your thing the woman has written some of the most amazing songs over the past 59 years or so and collaborated on so many more, she is so talented, generous, and courageous women on the planet, despite the way she was treated by some she literally just went on doing what she does and she is so good at it, if only there were more people like her in the world it would be a much better place.
I am ashamed to admit I hated her as a kid. I had her force fed to me along with Elvis and I hated everything country, mostly because I couldn’t escape it. But I saw her in 9-5 and was impressed by her character’s unflappable self confidence in the face of predatory sexism. Then I saw how this was kind of really just her, never dragged down by all the nonstop objectification, always a charming funny and deeply good hearted woman who pointed out her own over the top figure and basically told people “goggle if you gotta, then get past it and hear me.” It took me several years but I agree, to know Dolly is to love her.
Dolly is a national treasure, she is the complete package. She had so many incredible songs that you could sit down listening to them and completely lose track of time.
Dolly is a genre unto herself. Her voice is one of the greatest of all times, and she is an absolutely amazing songwriter. You would be very surprised to learn some of your favorite songs were written by Dolly. She’s also a wonderful human being who embraces everyone and does not have a bad bone in her body. She is a national treasure.
Her rendition of "I will always love you" that she sang to Porter Wagoner back in 1974 is totally classic. She wrote it for him when she left his show as a regular feature singer to go out on her own. He took it hard and the song was her way of asking his blessing.
Lol I always laugh that no one makes boob jokes about Dolly anymore when that was the go to in the 70s and 80s. I think its because so many people get ridiculous surgery nowadays to increase to ungodly sizes that lovely Dolly’s assets are now quite run of the mill 😂
@@poloreacts27Please, please do a review of Alison Kraus & Union Station. Songs such as "So Long, So Wrong" or "My Poor Old Heart" or "Crazy Faith" or "Daylight" or "Take Me for Longing." A great solo song of hers is "Jacob's Dream."
She has the kind of voice that you don’t need to worry about messing up. Her personality is infectious, I have never heard a bad word about her.. And yes, totally country.
Every time I see Dolly Parton sing, "Jolene" I get shivers and tear up a little. It's such a raw, naked narrative it's not hard to hear the pain and terror in her voice.
I’m a 68 yo woman & I was raised on Gospel & Country music yet I do like different genres of music. Country & Blue Grass music is all about telling a story whether it’s about cheating, loving, happiness, pain or drinking too much. I try to only listen to good, moral songs but the pain of loosing the one you love or could loose like Jolene gives one a sad feeling. Dolly Pardon is one of the most talented singers & song writer. I watched her when she first started with Porter Wagoner way back in the 60’s & 70’s! I always say… Broaden your horizons & you indeed have fallen into that category by hearing Dolly’s great song Jolene. Broaden it more by listen to more Country songs! They tell of real life & sometimes some history! I’m glad you had a positive reaction to Dolly & Jolene now listen to some more Dolly songs! 😉🥰
@@Able-Man I concur, I have probably only heard Whitney's version one time since 1992. I got plenty of Dolly mp3 songs on a playlist on my phone and pc.
There are some videos of dolly talking about her first time hearing Whitney’s version of the song and it’s just so sweet, you can tell that she also really appreciates what Whitney turned the song into 😊
Dolly is an extraordinary song writer. It is impossible for anyone who has ever heard her to dislike her. She really is a beautiful person who has a kind and talented soul.
For whatever reason, every time she sings this song, it's different every time. Sometimes, like this video, she sounds more confident and powerful, but other times she is more soft and reserved, but either way it always sounds incredible.
I cannot think of a more universally adored celebrity. I don't know anyone from any walk of life, or of any age who does not love her. She's loved for her voice, her songwriting, her story telling, her great big personality, and her huge contributions to charities. If you have not yet heard her sing 9 to 5, you're in for a treat.
My fav musical genius from Tennessee. She grew up in poverty (watch "Coat of Many Colors") in Pigeon Forge, then turned it into a tourist heaven, creating thousands of jobs. She saves eagles, gives free books to kids, and is always classy.
she, linda ronstadt, and emmy lou harris put out an album of traditional music called 'trio'. their harmonies and voices blend as if they were made to. it is a different side to dolly and really shows what she can do.
She is really tiny and so the image of her battling anybody or whupping on her husband is unimaginable. But she’s a tough lady, classy and extremely talented. She’s written a huge amount of music, both for herself and others. Considering that she came from a dirt poor background, her success is phenomenal!
One of my favorite stories about her is when her and a friend were visiting New York. A man wouldn’t leave them alone and at the time she was carrying a gun in her bag. She told him that if he didn’t leave them alone she’d change him from a rooster to a hen in one shot. They ended up using that line in 9 to 5.
Ooohhhh Devil Went Down to Georgia is a REALLY good storytelling song if you havent already heard it. It will give you the chills if you watch the live version.
As a metalhead who has a great love of all kinds of music, for country i have a list (my dad played drums in a country band, and actually has a picture of himself with Dolly, his band opened for her once, true story) so I grew up on that shit, so its deep in my DNA lol. Most of my list is older stuff, but they are some classics. Reba McIntire "Fancy," "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia," Conway Twitty "That's My Job," "Hello Darlin," "Its Only Make Believe," "Lay You Down," Randy Travis "For Ever And Ever (Amen)," Johnny Cash "Folsom Prison Blues," "A Boy Named Sue," "Ring of Fire," "God's Gonna Cut You Down," (you already did Hurt), George Jones "He Stopped Loving Her Today," Dolly Parton "9 to 5," "I Will Always Love You," "Islands In The Stream," "Rockin Years" Then, a few newer ones, Whiskey Myers "Broken Window Serenade," Sturgill Simpson "Long White Line," Colter Wall "Kate McCannon," "The Devil Wears a Suit And Tie"... I leave you alone now, lol. Any of these will rock your world dude. There are many other greats, I didn't even get into Hank Williams or some other stuff like that. But if you want to see what country is about, this will be a GREAT start.
The more you listen to and find out about her you will come to appreciate her. She comes from poor humble beginnings but made a great career for herself and kept her genuine good heart. She’s done many wonderful things, donated a lot of money to help develop new vaccines when the pandemic hit.
Yes! She donated $1 million to Vanderbilt’s medical center. They invited her to be the first to get the Moderna Covid vaccine because her donation supported research for the vaccine. We need more like her!
The bank teller wasn't actually named Jolene. She met a little girl after a concert and asked her name and she said, "Jolene." Dolly loved the name and told her she would write a song with her name. The story about the bank teller is true, but exaggerated, but the name Jolene came from a little girl she met after a concert. She told the little girl she loved her name and she was going to write a song with it... repeated the name in her head all the way back to the bu and had the chorus, "Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene," worked out by the time she got to a pencil.
Thank you! after I posted my post on this, I kinda second guessed whether or not this was true and seeing your post affirms I am NOT going crazy in the memory that Dolly had gotten a name from a little girl she met after a concert.
YES! As an east Tennessean I knew the woman wasnt named Jolene. BUT she was real. When I moved to Nashville in late 90's I had to go see all those sight Dolly wrote about in her bio. The laundromat where she met Carl and the bank where Jolene worked 😂
She was singing like that as a child, and ever since. A national treasure for sure, and the definition of high class IMHO. I can't think of a single entertainer or celebrity that comes anywhere close to her, on stage or off. It will be a sad, sad day indeed when she's gone.
Dolly Parton is a national treasure, adored by millions of her fans around the world. One of America’s greatest singer songwriters, and a notable philanthropist, who has done so much for numerous charities.
Dolly sang Jolene with Olivia Newton John just before Olivia passed away- it gives me goosebumps how well the two ladies sing this song as a duet! Garth Brooks Thunder Rolls (with the cussing) is a story telling song for certain! Like the Live Concert versions.
A 3-woman group called Chapel Hart wrote a sequel to this song called "You Can Have Him, Jolene". They performed it on America's Got Talent. They were pretty awesome.
She is one of the most talented people in the world, but her humanitarian efforts are the most amazing thing about this great woman! You would probably like the many other artists that have covered Jolene. I love every version 💖
Dolly is one of the most prolific songwriters of all sorts of music. She has numerous awards and owns her own theme park called Dollywood. Look up some of the songs she has written. I think you will be surprised. She was even inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.
Dolly was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She tried to decline the nominations mainly because she considers herself a country music artist. So in order to correct that, she is now recording her first rock album & teaming up with famous female rock & pop artists. She just finished recording a duet with Stevie Nicks & is working with Pat Benatar, Debbie Harry, & others to appear on her album. She wrote "Jolene & I will always love you" at the same time (well, on the same day). She has composed over 5k songs for herself & other musicians. She also recently worked with Barry Gibb on his last album, remakes of songs by The Bee Gees. I was lucky to grow up with Dolly's music because my dad (now 87) has been a life long fan ever since her big break when she was on the Porter Wagoner show (1967).. She wrote "I will always love you" for her recording partner, Porter, when she left his show to be a solo artist. My favorite songs are - Coat of many colors, Me and Little Andy, 9 to 5, & Islands in the Stream - that one was a chart topping hit she recorded with Kenny Rogers. Oh, and it was written by The Bee Gees - LOL!
Dolly's such a classy lady. Even when she writes a song about a woman she's angry at, she just sounds like she's writing a love letter to her. Most songs like this are filled with hate and puffed up insecure pride. Instead, she's humble and genuinely begging her to please not do what she's doing. It shows, I think, that her love for him is real and this isn't just about competition or being scorned.

You forgot witty, funny, down to earth, highly intelligent, great business woman, and self possessed.
@@cheshirecat6518 all those virtues
Actress!
We have access to the imagination library here in aus too… she’s brilliant!!
Totally agree from another Aussie!
Actually, her book program is also in Australia for disadvantaged kids!
I'm Mexican. I love her. I like some of her music even when I'm not really into country. I admire her efforts for improving literacy and I can't get over her live for drag queens.
We get Dolly’s “imagination library books” all over Canada! 🇨🇦 thank you Dolly!
Dolly Parton is a real life saint. She is so generous, talented, funny and kind 💖 an absolute gem
When you come from such poverty you know what it feels like and don’t want others to be that way. She has the means to help people, and she does.
Yes, no matter how big she got she’s always been a real . Se never lost her sweet, caring self.
She has a children's foundation that gives books to new parents
@@AnastasiaBvrhwsn She actually supplies books to children into their elementary school enrollment. I’m nearby in SW Virginia, and my county is included in her largesse
Dolly Parton has written hundreds of songs, many for other artists, as well as for herself. Beautiful talented woman, who is an American icon.
She wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You the same night. Amazing.
This fact always blows my mind.
Noooo! For real???
Before and after beating the tar out of him? 🤔 🤣🤣
Oh wow
I will always love you wasn't a love song to a spouse though.
Her husband is a VERY lucky man
Unbelievable that these governments don't do it themselves!!!!
Dolly is a kind caring legend!! An example to all!!❤❤
Dolly is a national treasure. This was 35 years ago. Check out a recent song she did with Brad Paisley called “When I Get Where I’m Going”. It’s beautiful.
She really is. Her acceptance of all types of people makes everyone love her.
That one makes me cry.
@@val7553 me too. Every time ❤
I'm not a big country music fan however Dolly is the exception and I will pause when skipping stations if I hear her singing. Fabulouse sense of humour and doesn't take herself too seriously. Many performers could take a leaf out of her book.
She’s just a legend in music and life
Everyone loves Dolly. She's so much more than an actress and singer. She's an amazing caring kind person ❤
She comes from humble beginnings and never forgot it. Her parents had twelve children in a two room cabin in Sevierville Tennessee. Shes known not only for her music and acting but shes very giving. I hope you listen to more of her songs. Youll enjoy them I promise. ❤
The type of fame I appreciate.
And then she set out to record a rock record so she’d feel right about it which will be released in a few months.
@@donkeysaurusrex7881 I didn't know that how exciting. Everything Dolly does is golden and I'm sure this will be two.
Both are awesome, just like Dolly*
lol that's just so typically Dolly though, isn't it? @@donkeysaurusrex7881

And 'has no filter', as Kenny Rogers said..lol
I met Dolly Parton when I was around 5. this was in the 80s
My parents took me to a country music event sort of thing and she came over and talked to everyone after.
I saw her in the Porter Wagoner show in 1968
Ive never met anyone who doesnt love dolly! From rockers to rappers to country music fans. Shes loved by all. Voice of an angel!!
Afroman loves her too, check Afroman - Crazy rap at the 4:00 minute mark
Ted Nugent, being the loser he is, called Dolly a Satan worshipper!! He must be thinking of himself lol!!! Dolly is an angel!
I don’t even like country music at all, but I love Jolene from Dolly Parton. Also, se is iconic and amazing.
And she created Dollywood to give the local folks good paying jobs. Why aren't more celebrities like her?
And I believe she pays for Dollywood employee’s college tuition
Dolly is another timeless one. Just as beautiful today as when she was young
Dolly has a beautiful, pure mountain voice
that is a wonderful description of her voice.
She's still alive and kickin brother. Edit those two "was" in that first sentence! You made me think she died recently and gave me a little sadness.
@@chrisfrench9257 ha…my bad. I know she’s alive but I guess I was using was as in she did all that amazing stuff awhile ago.
No strings
You saying "was" made me have to fact check you, the whole time being pissed off. She 77 and still kicking. Watch your word choices
She is a songwriter. You’d be surprised at the number of #1 songs she wrote and others performed.
She also kept all the publishing rights to all her songs….pretty savvy business mind IMO
Yes!!
And the movie of the same name
Dolly sang Jolene with Pentatonix a few years back and they all won A Grammy for it.
th-cam.com/video/oYCoyUxY2HY/w-d-xo.html
And it was an amazing version of the song. A magical musical combination.
I found it interesting as the original never won a Grammy
@@elainehockley1440 Dolly performed it well when she wrote it. However, she had so much more life experience when she performed and recorded it with Pentatonix. That performance was a masterwork, with nuances that only come from more life experience.
Dolly has been one of the few straight and steady entertainers who gives back soooo much.
She Aldo pays the hospital bills for babies in the nicu when parents can't in Tennessee. Buys band uniforms for schools too. Just an amazing human
She wrote I Will Always Love You on the SAME DAY she wrote Jolene!!!! She also composed her hit 9 to 5 in her acrylic nails. She tapped them together to create the beat
Loved her in 9 to 5! They don't make movie's like that anymore!

She is a charitable soul. She also just got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She said that wasn't right, she hasn't ever done rock. And so she is putting together a rock album now with several invited rock guests on an upcoming album. Below is the clip I found about it:
Parton made headlines in March after saying she was "extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated," but didn’t feel that she had "earned that right" to be recognized as a rock artist over other performers.
She has done so much to help bring jobs to her community with Dollywood as well.
What a wonderful memory. Dolly is an angel on Earth and that's for sure.

She is a remarkable woman
There is not a single person who could hate Dolly Parton. We don't deserve someone like her.
Mia.... actually, Crystal Gayle wasn't exactly all that happy with Dolly....lol, talk about a cat fight!

I would love to know how long it would take to listen to the thousands of songs she has written in her ~60 years of performing...
Dolly Parton is an ICON. And I wouldn't be surprised if every nice thing ever said or written about her is 1,000% true.
The QUEEN. No one compares at all. Sings with no need for tricks or auto tune, even now she can sing anyone under the table.

Not only a country star but also a pop singer along with Kenny Rogers.
Her rendition of "I will always love you" that she sang to Porter Wagoner back in 1974 is totally classic. She wrote it for him when she left his show as a regular feature singer to go out on her own. He took it hard and the song was her way of asking his blessing.
"The only two things I know about Dolly Parton"...thought you were going somewhere else with that one 😆
I see you what you did there 😂
Lol I always laugh that no one makes boob jokes about Dolly anymore when that was the go to in the 70s and 80s. I think its because so many people get ridiculous surgery nowadays to increase to ungodly sizes that lovely Dolly’s assets are now quite run of the mill 😂

One of the best songs ever. I'm Appalachian so this hits different.
Oh Polo you've got to react to Dolly's coat of many colors song makes me cry every time 💗
I’m a 68 yo woman & I was raised on Gospel & Country music yet I do like different genres of music.

Most of my list is older stuff, but they are some classics. Reba McIntire "Fancy," "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia," Conway Twitty "That's My Job," "Hello Darlin," "Its Only Make Believe," "Lay You Down," Randy Travis "For Ever And Ever (Amen)," Johnny Cash "Folsom Prison Blues," "A Boy Named Sue," "Ring of Fire," "God's Gonna Cut You Down," (you already did Hurt), George Jones "He Stopped Loving Her Today," Dolly Parton "9 to 5," "I Will Always Love You," "Islands In The Stream," "Rockin Years"
Then, a few newer ones, Whiskey Myers "Broken Window Serenade," Sturgill Simpson "Long White Line," Colter Wall "Kate McCannon," "The Devil Wears a Suit And Tie"...
I leave you alone now, lol. Any of these will rock your world dude. There are many other greats, I didn't even get into Hank Williams or some other stuff like that. But if you want to see what country is about, this will be a GREAT start.

Dolly, love her, she's the greatest ever❤

THAT is the true origin of the name Jolene 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
YES! As an east Tennessean I knew the woman wasnt named Jolene. BUT she was real. When I moved to Nashville in late 90's I had to go see all those sight Dolly wrote about in her bio. The laundromat where she met Carl and the bank where Jolene worked 😂
Thank you for telling the true story. As I remember, the little girl had red hair and green eyes.

Nobody is like Dolly.. one of kind.. special gift to us all.. aways been my favorite!
I'm glad I found you to watch.. You're impressed with her voice one bar in.... I'm all... "oh wait, son... just wait'.
That warble of hers makes her voice so distinctive. ❤️
There is a version of the song called "Jolene but it's gay" which you reminded me of with the talk of it sounding like a love letter XD
Omg. DOLLY PARTON is a legend. And a n amazing songwriter.
